Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | April 2013 | Sacrifice your Independent Soul

problem here is they really just don't know what to do with Vita or how they market it (and for what audience),this ad for an example will do nothing for anyone.

I think technology is mature enough to sell handhelds like complements to home consoles. I mean, I love handhelds (never bought one before the DS Lite, from then on I got PSP, Vita and 3DS). I never brought it with me out of my house, not even once.

I don't buy handhelds for portability but because I like to relax on my bed and play exclusive games I can't get on home consoles. They really should market this concept, not this phantomatical "hardcore gaming on the go", it's actually nonsense imho. Also, stop marketing Vita like an hip thing, it's not. Casuals aren't gonna spend this kind of money on a dedicated gaming machine when their phones will let them play angry birds, gamers looking for quality games not available on home consoles are the target. Wii U sales are showing the world that the casual gaming bubble burst badly.

Ugly as fuck over the shoulder video doesn't serve anyone in any way.

I'm pretty sure it serves me just fine. I've gotten a good look at Soul Sacrifice via off-screen video, enough that I'm confident in wanting to buy it day one.

is this the excuse for it?

Digital Foundry (a lot smaller than GB) got modded Vita or a dev kit and can get direct feed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2ldxK9FDOA

if GB do really care about getting all platforms in their QLs they can have it easily too but clearly they don't really care that much.

Exactly.

The Let's Play PSOne Classics thread is ignoring me, so I'll ask here; Wild Arms spoilers:

I just upgraded the protowing to the gullwing and am about to go check out a disturbance in the guardians' life force or something...
How long do I have left?

You guys act like every other podcast out there is spending large segments of each show talking about how awesome the Vita is and Giantbomb is some sort of outlier that have never given it a chance. I love hotline miami as much as the next guy but I'm not replaying a game I played over a year ago. I can't even decide on a Vita game to put in my Gamefly queue and the "coming soon" lists are like 80% TBD for release date.

Yeah, can't exactly say that Giant Bomb's indifference is unfounded. They will and should devote their attention to whatever gives them the most clicks, and Vita isn't that thing.

Final Fantasy Tactics is such an amazing game...I am replaying it for the third time, just got to chapter 4. I like it better than most games I have played this year (crysis 3, tomb raider, bioshock infinite). Classic game!

I bought it yesterday and I'm at the 2nd battle. Played it a few years ago on the PS1 for around 2 hours but could never go back to it. Game is fun so far and I think I'll get Tactics Ogre after I finish this one, maybe I'll even try the Disgaea games.

I think it's dumb to not cover one of the major platforms, regardless of their opinion on it (and that opinion is NOT indifference).

Looking at various coming soon lists they are all bullshit in regards to vita. There are lots of smaller psn only games coming that don't get any recognition on lists like that but are exactly what I want. Downloadable so they are always on hand and with gameplay that works on a portable.

Hotline Miami is a good example of this, so is BOI, terraria, fez, bit trip runner, and many more

Maybe they should go with a different style of ad - not something that's "trendy" or "edgy" but something more comical and that, I dunno, actually shows how REAL LIVE PEOPLE use a handheld? Such as maybe the following?

-Commercial starts with bored looking guy sitting on the couch with his girlfriend or wife watching some kind of romantic comedy or something else he's not interested in.
-Next, cut to a few seconds of in-game Vita footage. But don't show the actual VITA yet.
-Then back to the guy and now he's looking at the TV screen and his gf/spouse as if maybe, just maybe, he could get away with something...
-Cut to another Vita game. Still - just the footage and not the Vita yet.
-Next, show the guy starting to edge slowly.... away from the couch.... (his gf/wife is very much too interested in the movie to even notice)
-Cut back to a Vita game.
-Cut back to the couch - the guy's not there and the wife/gf is still watching the movie intently.
-Cut back to another Vita game.
-Next, back to the couch only this time the guy's playing his Vita while the wife is watching the movie, and he's smiling and having a blast.
-Then show the Sony Playstation logo, etc.

I mean... that's exactly how I end up using my Vita most of the time anyway... :)

Well are they gaming portals or ifap devices portals ?
And it's not just Vita problem 3DS coverage is also very bad in most places.

LOL, Sony cheaps out with Vita as usual. A lot of that footage is culled from earlier commercials (such as the NA COD:BO:D bundle one) that had the same theme of floating around in a real-life arena.

Terrible commercial, in any case.

SCEE actually did the Call of Duty commercial. It was the first time I saw Sony use the same commercial for two different continents. I'm guessing it was a by-product of SCEA changing ad agencies in the fall, or them not wanting to spend additional money on a turd.

where is the best place to sell my vita, I need to get rid of it before I start randomly floating around and get hit by a bus O_O;

seriously though absolutely terrible commercial, it doesn't make the vita look fun at all, it doesn't really show much in the way of games, it just show people randomly floating around which isn't an activity that most people can relate to :/

I thought sony hired a new ad manager, why are they still making pointless artsy-like commercials that in general makes me sad to support sony in any way :/

Well, this is an SCEE commercial (they didn't change agencies) that was aired last year. The artsy fartsy stuff seems to work in Europe.

"I cannot move to the netherworld with my body stolen. How long must this last?" to
"Not only was I so cruelly forced from my body, but I cannot even find peace in death. How much more must I be made to suffer?"

What a huge difference.

I had no problems with the first translation when I played it on my Wii. But maybe I played it in German, I don't remember. :D

I was shaking my head and facepalming hard every time I had to jump using the stick (really stupid thing to force the people to do) so I thought the bad dialogue was just another bad thing because of the dev not the translator.

this is still hurt me,Sony is publishing this yet they don't bother to bring their own freaking game to the west even if digitally only on PSN.

^ that is Over my Dead Body remake by the way.

So I'm basically going for NFS: Most Wanted's platinum. AMAZING GAME. GET IT.

I did get it. It's the only Vita game I own. But it's too arcade-y for me. I miss the semi (well, vaguely) real NFS open world games, like Carbon or Underground 2.

Really well done though, except for the tiny font.

I'm still irritated they never brought over the Kingdom of Paradise sequel. Okay, the original wasn't great, but I did buy it and finish it, so it would be nice if Sony could bring over the sequel. But SCEA didn't even pick up the PSP version of White Knight Chronicles, which SCEE apparently localized for Europe.

Dude, I hate to break it to you, but the sequel (prequel) sucked.

It was the first game I dived into since I had someone to read Japanese for me, and whatever we'd make of the story, the gameplay was garbage.

Key of Heaven Kingdom of Paradise is absolutely amazing in my opinion. The whole custom combo thing hadn't been replicated until PSO2 -- that's like 5 years of being the first I think.

EDIT: Fail, I don't know the bbcode for strike-out

Izuna Plays Vita: Ninja Gaiden Σ+ and Ninja Gaiden Σ2+ Comparison

EDIT: Thank You!

tl;dr ver.

Sigma (1) Plus is pretty much a direct port of Sigma (PS3) running at a constant 30fps. No more, no less. Now has enhancements, which are carried across difficulties and make the game easier overall.

Sigma 2 Plus runs very bad. It feels like it needs a patch. I runs about half as bad as other NG2 version, which were all terrible for framerate to begin with. It has dynamic resolution shifting which means occasionally it looks very pixelated as if it were an old mobile game. Finally, difficulty appears to be adjusted to be easier than Sigma 2 (PS3).
Both games' cutscenes are now FMVs so there's inconsistency when you change from the original costume.[/QUOTE]

No space on the last bracket.

From what I've heard, WKC: Origins is a pretty bad game. Though, you do have to wonder how expensive it would be for SCEA to just dump those games onto PSN ...

iirc you need to buy it from the modder site (katsukity) for $450+shipping, you can't just mod it yourself.

Yeah... Allow that...

TBH The footage would have been MUCH better if I simply rested the Vita on a box and played with it flat.

I love you.

I never played Muramasa on Wii. It was completely off my radar (so much shovelware to sift through). This quality translation and as always, DAT OLED, pushed me to preorder it on Amazon. I will always try to support work like this when I am able to, financially. I watched a few minutes of your video Izuna and will now be playing NG+ at some point. I downloaded it because it was free but it joined my backlog. It looks like something I will enjoy.

Adam Rippon confirmed on Twitter that DRAGON FANTASY: BOOK I will be launched on Vita "really soon" (april should be)... and DRAGON FANTASY: BOOK II "on summer".

Two classics RPGs are always good news...

I like this guy a lot. He seems really enthusiastic and authentic. Will definitely pick up the first for sure.

I hit a game-breaking bug in NGS2+ =(

Did some searching and it's been in the game since the PS3 version.

LAME *sniff*

Legends of War supposed to get released in just few days in Europe (19th april?),we get nothing for many Vita games before release so can't count it as MIA.
