Wait wut

The delay in months isn't that bad, but the price... fuck I ain't got for that. BB is anime and niche. That game wouldn't really have much of a problem with being a late generation game. Also, it's not like the damn thing does anything that the PS3 can't handle.
 
A single year is pretty short in the lifespan of a big competitive game. Things move much faster now than they did when the last big generation of 2d fighting games was released (like 98-2001ish), but the games themselves are similarly complex. Ask Justin Wong and he'll tell you he thinks that Marvel 2 still had a lot of room to be explored and that there were other good teams out there that nobody ended up finding. And that game was played at a high level for a decade.

So it's weird to assert that nothing else is gonna come out in UMvC3. I mean, do we find things twice as fast as in Marvel 2? Three times as fast? In either case, that means we still have a couple years left before we get to where Marvel 2 ended up.

Imo there are better things players can be doing to deal with Morridoom. Maybe those things won't be good enough, or maybe Morridoom will continue to evolve and get even better too. But for sure there's a lot of room left for exploration.

I mean, Morridoom has been the clear S-Tier strategy for a very, very long time now. It's just that finally people are seeing it for what it is.
 
wtf Triforce has been talking for 10 minutes and I haven't disagreed with a single thing he's said thus far, even the stuff on X-Factor was eloquently put.

This conversation has kind-of morphed but it's pretty coherent and isn't usual Triforce.

That is probably right, but the problem is it isn't just Morridoom, it is Morridoom + Vergil, or whatever other character you want to chuck on the end to mess up whatever counter they come up with. The under explored characters are under explored because they generally have weaknesses, and players like Chris G will still be able to exploit them.

Think Chris G is the least of his problems, he should be asking himself why he got bodied free by Flocker. The sad thing is, he probably would have been bodied too had he used his Dorm team, his Dorm is not going to survive Flocker's Zero on incoming.

Mostly agreed. Information spreads faster these days, but I'm not convinced that it's discovered faster.

It's comparatively easy to look-up matches on Youtube and reach parity with what's out in the open already, but on the other hand, TAC infinites were in vanilla on day 1 yet not discovered until months into Ultimate.

Yeah the spread of information is good and bad. I know back in the day I'd grind out in training mode to try to work stuff out, now I just find stuff on youtube. It is one thing for there to be tech to counter Morridoom, it is quite another for somebody to spend the time and effort to work it out. Might as well just play injustice or DOA or something and avoid the issue.
 
There is no real "counter" team. There are teams that can compete with MorriDoom but even those would be at a disadvantage against MorriDoom. The fundamental problem is that if you go TOO hard in the direction of countering MorriDoom... your entire team will get countered by Vergil alone. He's the fail safe on the duo that most people are ignoring.

Dante + Strider and a 3rd character (most likely Vergil) from the short list of characters who can deal with that stuff is really the only "solid" duo that can combat and even then you need a Dante at least as good as Yipes and a Dark Strider better than Clockwork's. There is no person out there who is playing this duo at that level.

Vergil/Morrigan/Strider? Yeah that team is free as fuck to Wolverine. Vergil/Strider should only be used as a secondary. If you swap Vergil with Morrigan, she can still get rushdown without missiles and Vergil has to hold that shit deep in his chest when he comes in.

Actually Dieminion using it means it MIGHT be legit.

Although the team will get wrecked by Vergil... you can bet Bison dollars on that.

I want to see Dieminion come on stream while Triforce is commentating, Triforce hype the new team up, then Dieminion goes 0-3 against whoever he's playing. I want to see it happen so bad.

I don't necessarily think you need a Yipes-tay and Jet Black Strider in order to get the work done against MorriDoom, but if we're talking against Chris G, then most definitely.

Agreed on your "what to build for" analysis though. Go too far thinking about Morrigan/Doom? Get blown up by Magneto or Vergil and vice versa.

Link to stream of Dieminion playing? The other day I got a tweet suggesting the use of alpha counters against Morridoom. I looked into it with Thor's alpha counter v Chris's usual pressure setup (call missiles, jump diagonal-down soulfist, air dash in shell kick), and it worked great, I hit Morrigan, evaded missiles, and got a combo. I then tweeted about all this and Dieminion favorited that tweet.

Triforce talking about blockstun makes me wonder if Dieminion then looked into alpha counters and liked it? Or maybe he'd already come to the same conclusion on his own? Interesting.
 
If it's something silly like Strange + meter building assist to counter projectile with his hyper plus random SoV I am going to roll my eye so hard they will be buried at the back of my skull.

A lot of alpha counters in this game are awesome, and it's definitely a good idea against Morrigan since Shell Kick hits 3 times and can't be stopped once initiated.

Alpha counters are only going to be good if Morrigan is rushing down which she doesn't do that often. Thor's alpha counter is good but Morrigan has to be close to him. Technically speaking alpha counters WRECK Vergil (because it will make him whiff and be punished for a full combo) but no one uses it. FChamp knows about it and has some gimmicks with it but he doesn't have great alpha counter characters.
