Honest question as a casual observer:

How can you rate any of these terrible storylines as more or less boring? The whole show, product, whatever, is completely garbage. Punk is basically the only guy who can elevate this crap to "worthwhile", but as good as he is, that only gets me to track down the occasional segment on youtube. Every time I've tuned into a proper RAW or PPV for the last few years I've regretted it. Even when they stumbled onto a great storyline with the Punk thing in the summer of ... '11? ...the rest of the show was jarringly bad.

I didn't tune in tonight, luckily.

I agree with you, actually. WWE right now is terrible for the IWC, at least. Literally the only reason I was tuning in and/or keeping track of it was because of The Rock and Ryback. But they bungled Ryback's push, and we all saw how things went with Rock/Cena. Now I don't really have any incentive to keep watching, so it's back to video games for me. At the most, I'll continue to follow in Ubertag's footsteps and mock those who actually ARE going to stomach what Vince gives them.

How does one go about watching NJ? I wouldn't know where to start. Do you just watch PPVs? And are there translations or do you just watch for the in ring stuff?

They stream their PPVs on Ustream for international customers (http://www.ustream.tv/njpw) - the going price is usually $25. You can usually find the non-PPV shows on youtube though;

There aren't any translations, but they keep interview segments to a minimum and the majority of the storylines are told through the action in-ring.

Then your taste is fucking terrible or you're lying about watching all of those promotions. I like Punk, I think he's a brilliant promo when he has decent material but his actual wrestling is nowhere even close to "best in the world." I'd comfortably rate Daniel Bryan, Angle, Tanahashi and Nakamura far higher than him.

And I agree with the sentiment that Punk's title reign wasn't that good. When he was a face, he was your typical WWE super face, complete with burying opponents and being an asshole. Then he turned heel, which felt really forced, he droned on and on about respect and wrestled Cena and Ryback all the fucking time. I really like that Punk got a record that will stand the test of time but the actual reign itself wasn't that good.

I don't understand why people cheer the Rock. He isn't funny anymore and is about -50% electrifying compared to the mobility, poise, and energy he had in his prime. There's nothing there to root for or enjoy.

He still has more charisma than that damn wet rag Cena. But yeah, he's not up to being in ring. He needs to go get a couple young guys and be a heel manager or something.

Storm's always competently energetic on the mic and solid in the ring, but I love the Aries/Roode dynamic.

Aries/Roode are brilliant. They should be on TV every single week. Love their shirts and Aries' creative mic work and in-ring antics.

Not sure if I'm more excited for Raw or Impact this week.

Great question - a good jumping off point would be to watch Wrestle Kingdom VII, which is like NJPW's Wrestlemania but full of AWESOME SHIT.

Our fellow poster Bootaaay uploads a lot of footage of it to Dailymotion, which is the best place to find NJPW as Youtube cuts it off pretty quick.

This match is a wonderful one to give you a taste of how amazing NJPW is. A REAL champion. A REAL match.
