Margaret Thatcher has died

I was a kid when she was in power in the north east, i saw first hand what her policies did around here, they better not be a minute silence next sunday in the newcastle sunderland derby as that wont go well at all.

I'm wondering if that will happen, it will not be observed well at all, at any club throughout the country, not just in the North. I wouldn't be surprised if United and City fans chant in unison against her tonight either.

Oh wow, its the hillsborough anniversary this weekend as well. You can count on abuse towards her, given how she tried to cover it up.

As a Scot who grew up in a lower middle class (or would that be higher working class?) family, it's fairly obvious how I feel about this.

Hopefully she won't be deified in the same way that Reagan has been in the U.S. since his death. (Or is it already too late?)

Reagan worship has played a huge part in fueling the Tea Party movement.

Nah. The fucked up thing about Reagan is most of those who deify him aren't people that exactly benefited from his policies. Thatcher on the other hand, is probably hated by at least 60% of Britain and always will be. Like really really hated.

I wonder what we'll see at the next Liverpool home game? Such a despised woman by a lot of people who love football.

So she'll get the same as what the Queen Mother got. Full military honours and service, but won't lie in state.

We better not be paying for this shit.

Should be shot out of a cannon. At France.

Then later France would issue a ticket to UK for littering.

Apparently she won't lie in state, as she wished to.

I didn't like Thatcher's politics, but I'm not going to 'celebrate' her death. I can understand why there are so many people who hated her, though.

So is some of the hate for Thatcher because she was an environmental crusader and sought to shut down all the polluting factories/mines of the North? I know she went after the coal industry with a particular relish and the seeds of the current Global Warming movement are planted there.

There's a difference between calling them an innocent angel and simply not being an asshole.
She is responsible for adversely affecting the lives of millions of people in Britain. People are well within their rights to not give a fuck about paying respects at her passing.

They should bury her in the Falklands, it's probably the only place her grave would not be vandalized.

The temptation to urinate on her grave will be great for many.

I was thinking this, particularly when the Hillsborough anniversary is this week. One time when I'd actually welcome being inside Anfield.

She didnt shut down the mines for that reason at all, the enviroment wasnt even an after thought.

Did she show respect or decency towards those she ruined and killed? The victims of Pinochet's regime she supported?I don't think so.
This is exactly what I think. If these guys don't give a damn about our lives, why should we care about their deaths? Or are they beyond any criticism, just because they are dead?

Just amazing.

I was beginning to think she was immortal. Murdoch up next.

I'd say what I thought but I don't feel like getting banned.

I'm not one to celebrate a death, but I imagine there will be a lot doing so today.

As a Scot who grew up in a lower middle class (or would that be higher working class?) family, it's fairly obvious how I feel about this.

Indeed, can't say I know anyone who liked her around these parts.

Indeed, but I think most people post stuff like that to counter all the bullshit praise she's getting right now on tv and other places just because she's dead. Someone on ITV just said that every true feminist in the country should be weeping because she's dead.

Edit: Just to be clear, I'm not for celebrating her death but I think it's stupid that people who would insult her yesterday would refrain from doing so today.
Her death doesn't really change anything. It doesn't change the way I view her, and I'm not going to celebrate her death either since her influence is still present.

RIP Thatcher.

Even though many are highly critical, fact is she had more balls than Blair & Brown...Combined!!!

Also, I am just about old enough to remember what this country was like before Thatchers government. My earliest memories was of the winter of discontent.

Shit pilling up on the streets
Living by candlelight

People may complain about how she handled the unions, but it was a hell of alot better than the Labour government before who let them run wild

What the hell? Holy shit.

Was only as old as 8 when she was in office, so I don't have any real opinion on her legacy, my similarly aged friends on facebook are posting pretty hateful stuff right now, I guess they were political activists when they were children...

I wasn't born when Hitler ruled Germany. I guess i can't complain about him.

Elton John said:
Can you hear it in the distance
Can you sense it far away
Is it old Rudolph the reindeer
Is it Santa on his sleigh
It's heading up to Easington
It's coming down the Tyne
Oh it's bloddy Maggie Thatcher
And Michael Heseltine

[Chorus:]
So merry Christmas Maggie Thatcher
May God's love be with you
We all sing together in one breath
Merry Christmas Maggie Thatcher
We all celebrate today
'Cause it's one day closer to your death

They've come to raid your stockings
And to steal your Christmas pud
But don't be too downhearted
It's all for your own good
The economic infrastructure
Must be swept away
To make way for call centres
And lower rates of pay

[Chorus]

And they've brought their fascist boot boys
And they've brought the boys in blue
And the whole Trade Union Congress
Will be at the party too
And they'll all hold hands together
All standing in a line
'Cause they're privatising Santa
This merry Christmas time

[Chorus 2x]

Oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling Heseltine
You're a tosser, you're a tosser
And you're just a Tory Swine

:P
