Ripe old age of 20. Not bad for a PM in the 1980s.

State funeral?
I'm sad to see that there is so little respect for the dead on my facebook news feed, I thought my friends were better than that.
RIP
Just read about this and what happens? I get a text from a 'friend' regarding this stating 'Ding dong the witch is dead'. Fair enough not liking her or what she did but what about showing some respect or decency?
State funeral?
Was only as old as 8 when she was in office, so I don't have any real opinion on her legacy, my similarly aged friends on facebook are posting pretty hateful stuff right now, I guess they were political activists when they were children...

With parties on both sides of the house trying their hardest to emulate her rule and basically idealizing her - I'd say she still had plenty of power and influence.RIP.
I understand not liking her politics/policies...I would understand if she'd just lost an election and you were happy about that. But it's not like she had any power in the last 20 years. Why celebrate her death ?
Surely if people can be vocally happy about Bin Laden dying, we can also be vocally happy about Thatcher dying?
No? How can you seriously compare Bin Laden to Thatcher?

So scotland, Northern england and most certainly Wales will be celebrating. She did her level best to ruin us. She is utterly hated around those parts and we still have to live with the consequences of her policies.
This. Roger Waters will be pleased. If I spoke how I truly felt I would be banned also, but I guarantee nobody from where I live will shed a tear ...... in fact many will have a drink in celebration.
Easily? No? How can you seriously compare Bin Laden to Thatcher?
Indeed.
A little harsh on Bin Laden.
RIP
Didn't agree with her policies, and I completely understand the hate that is held for her. Don't feel that now is quite the time to be dancing on her grave, but neither are the sea of platitudes which will be poured on her today - those expecting the BBC to have balance are mistaken, regardless of their political affiliation of their staffers, you just can be negative about someone who's just died.
Does she deserve a state funeral? Probably, her influence on the country, for better or worse (for worse in my opinion), will not be matched for a very long time.

As a northerner I'm supposed to be celebrating apparently? That's clearly what my Facebook would lead me to believe right now anyway.
Honestly I just don't know enough about her other than shutting down the mines.

Good God what is wrong with some of you people.
I was a kid when she was in power in the north east, i saw first hand what her policies did around here, they better not be a minute silence next sunday in the newcastle sunderland derby as that wont go well at all.
Frankie Boyle said:There's a debate going on in parliament at the moment as to whether Thatcher deserves a state funeral. In Scotland, we're debating whether she needs to be dead before we bury her
Someone just raised this in the football thread and its a valid point. It would be incredibly two faced and insensitive if the burden of a minutes silence was placed on the football community, at the same time as many would rather observe a minutes silence for a tragedy which her government helped cover up.
I'd probably get in trouble if I said how I felt.
Toodles Thatcher.
"In keeping with the great lady's legacy, Margaret Thatcher's state funeral should be funded and managed by the private sector to offer the best value and choice for end users and other stakeholders. The undersigned believe that the legacy of the former PM deserves nothing less and that offering this unique opportunity is an ideal way to cut government expense and further prove the merits of liberalised economics Baroness Thatcher spearheaded."
