I'm catching this sucker tomorrow after a good while being on blackout.

So they removed the early IMAX screenings in the US?

Oh well, Upstream Color this weekend!

The OT we've been waiting for!

......said no one ever.

Just thought it would be nice to have one thread for impressions that will be coming back from some of us tomorrow/today, rather than bumping of different trailer and M83 score threads.

C'mon bro, you oughta know by now when I'm being a smartass.

Interested by the synopsis but I've kinda caught a Cruise intolerance. Most of the time, I differenciate people and their work, but Tom happens to be one of the few that make me lose that oversight when I see him, and I can't stand that.

I get some weird Portal vibes from this.

The trailers don't excite me, but it's SciFi with Cruise. Sooo.....I will wait till someone spoils the twist for me and then decide.

I'm really curious about this movie, it could be pretty fun, but clearly, after those trailers, can be absolutely terrible.

It opens very late in my country, so by then there will be many reviews and impressions. Hopefully it would be worth it for Kurylenko.

Didn't he just do a first draft of the screenplay? It's highly probable that the alterations done since then makes it so he has no connection to the film anymore. Not sure how that reflects on the quality.

That info comes from one of Monahan's PA's that I'm friendly with.

Even if he had little to do with the final draft, he'd probably still keep his name on it if he thought it was any good. That he wanted his name unassociated with the film is troubling. Combine that with the lack of critic screenings, and the clear assumption is that the film is, at the very least, not very good.

The massive list of countries and the lack of Canada on it, makes me sad. Haha. I realize our release date is probably the same as in the States, but common!! Kuwait and Estonia but no Canada?

haha.

We love to play up the Cruise Canada connection.

I don't know. Personally, if I had worked on something that has changed to the point where I don't feel that it's my work, I wouldn't want to be associated with it (regardless of quality). Anyway, I guess we'll see the reviews soon enough.

I can see that, but I'd also have to think that some of the core of the plot remains from the first draft. I mean, the Tom Cruise character is probably still the Tom Cruise character, right? I just find it troubling that he'd actively pursue getting his name off the project, but maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Hollywood's obsessed with prestige though. Having your name connected with a popular work makes yourself highly marketable.

Just look at Goyer and how he keeps touting his involvement with the Batman trilogy, even though he wasn't a writer for TDK or TDKR.

Except he was part of the writing team for the story of both of those films. Which is why he has a story credit on both, just not screenplay.

as far as tom cruise projects go this one looks the most promising out of him for the next 3-4 years. but it still seems pretty mediocre.

will check it out on dvd. or theaters if the impressions here are great.

How this film tracking? I haven't seen a single ad on tv, they can't expect Tom Cruise's name itself to market it.

Boxoffice.com predicts a $45M opening against $120M overall. I think that's impossibly optimistic. My guess is $30M-$40M opening weekend. I think $40M would be a big victory.

Opening weekends:

Jack Reacher: $15M (though had a relatively stronger first 10 days due to Christmas)
Looper: $20M
Total Recall (2012): $25M
Prometheus: $51M
Rise of the Planet of the Apes: $54M

Whenever this has happened, usually it's a bad sign.

So, is it right to assume no screenings means it's going to be bad?

Bill Monahan was previously a writer but has since requested his name be removed and is no longer credited.

Possibly the smartest person working on that film!
Ugh. Not good signs.

I have been looking forward to this for months and I will still see this regardless but it's hard not to not get deflated by those indicators. I guess we'll know more once Sculli et al report in.

Saw it yesterday. Decent sci-fi film, everything looks amazing and it's fun to watch. The only problem is the story. It's a mix of many movies with bits of videogames. I mean, it's well done and written, but a bit predictable. Oh, I loved the OST.

From what I've heard they will be releasing the movie in two Aspect Ratios, 1.78:1 for regular movie screens, and 1.33:1 for REAL IMAX (not LieMAX) screens.

The trailer was a bit weird. Mostly because of Cruise, I think. A short, impeccably groomed middle aged guy in a silver space suit.

I hope his perfect hair at least gets a bit ruffled in the course of the movie.

So it's just like Tron: Legacy? Will watch.
