XBLA (Xbox Live Arcade) News, Announcements, Reviews, and Impressions Thread

I can't recommend Battlefield 1943 enough. It's an extremely focused, aesthetically cohesive shooter-as-arcade game, complete with Sega blue skies. Really, really elegant with great map design and I can't comment on the community, as I was doing way too well for myself and figure that maybe it's sale activity, but I've had no problem finding a match.

Motocross Madness - 800msp, 1.48GB.

huh, thought it was 1200!

anyway, opinions on warhammer 40,000: kill team & bionic commando rearmed 2?
They're the worst of the games during these sales, but that doesn't necessarily make them terrible games. BCR2 is just decidedly worse than it's predecessor but is actually a decent platformer with many levels, a myriad of bosses and lots of variety. Adding the ability to jump and giving the dude an ironic hipster moustasche make the game a bit lamer than the first one, though.

Kill Team is the lesser of the two and while it doesn't really do anything specifically poorly, it doesn't do anything very well either. There's just no reason to pick it up over games like Geometry Wars, Mutant Storm or Gatling Gears. It will fit the bill if you want 1 or 2 nights of shooty entertainment, if you enjoy 40k stuff and want some quick and easy achievements, though.

Major Nelson initially listed Motorcross Madness at the wrong price yesterday.

They updated the Information on the Twisted Pixel bundle last night,

This bundle includes four full Xbox LIVE Arcade titles: “The Maw,” “Splosion Man,” “Comic Jumper,” and “Ms. Splosion Man.” PLEASE NOTE: this bundle pack offers these games together at a discounted rate over individual purchases. The games in this bundle are available as individual downloads in the Xbox Games marketplace and are exactly the same. Be aware that it is possible to download the same game twice. If you already own one of these games there is no additional discount on this bundle, nor do you receive an additional copy of the game you already own.

If some fine gaffer could provide some impressions regarding Motocross madness framerate/tearing, that would ne nice. in the xbla stream, the game seemed to have pretty big tearing issues and did not run smoothly.

Just played a tutorial and quick race (finished 6th) and a quick go on the first small exploration map.

Very different feel from old Motorcross Madness that I spend ages titting around in.

Its got a funny look to it to, not even close to the beautiful IQ in Joyride but almost looks lowres and murky with some shimmer to the frame rate.

Thanks for the impressions on Motocross Madness so far. I'd love to know about how much content there is in the game, if it's worth the price.

I think my favourite part of Motocross Madness is the "exploration mode". Just it existence basically means that the developers knew how I played the Motocross Madness demo all those years ago.

Basically the exploration mode opens up the race maps entirely -- go anywhere, wherever. Even a single map goes through three separate levels. It's huge.

Each part of the exploration mode has coins and skulls to collect -- and they're put over big jumps, or up areas you'd never go like up the pyramid, or by boosting up the side of this mountain you're never meant to get up. It's exactly how I played the Motocross Madness demo.

Think of it as sort of like Rovio's Bad Piggies' super big levels where you have to figure out how to get up there, but with Bikes. Kind of like an open world Trials type of thing.

Also when you go outside the level's boundaries it flings you in the other direction, which was basically the goal of the PC demo.

It still has the exploration mode? Fuck yeah. I mastered the "get out of the boundaries behind that huge wall" driving in MM :D
You could get the sickest stunts that way.

For me this is the only bit of Motocross Madness that matters. The races were always utter shite, but exploring the stunt quarries was the best thing EVER. Nice to see they've kept it in! Ooh, forgot to ask - can you do Exploration in the demo?

Been waiting for Castlestorm for a long time. Can't wait to get my hands on it as a castle defense fan and a person who loved King Arthur on the SNES back in the day.

Motocross Madness is disappointing. Doesn't seem to be much content and the handling, physics, collision detection, etc are crappy. You have very little traction and it is very hard to pull back into a turn without losing a whole bunch of speed. You slide a lot and not in a good way.

Motocross Madness seems to play well enough to me. The exploration mode being limited in area and to five minutes in the demo is a little unfortunate. It reminds me of Joyride in a good way. I like the clan stuff although I don't think there's going to be enough players to justify it long-term. I'll pick it up on a 400 msp sale in a few months.

I noticed something weird in the demo, though--if you go into Avatar Famestar, a) the demo prohibits you from seeing what the Favstar challenges are (? why?), but even stranger, b) you can't click on the "Recommendations" section. Why on earth would they prohibit me from looking at advertising until I buy the game?

I have played a fair bit of motorcross now, I think they have done a great job making parts of the new game feel like the classic, the open stunt areas, all the tricks you unlock and the OOB wall launching you back really hard if you hit it, just like motorcross madness 2.

Only bad thing is the really REALLY generic guitar music, it's a shame there was not a few licensed tunes here or something less plain overall, even the menu is some generic guitar loop.

Very nice that this game was 800 allards also, could have easily been set to 1200 but I feel that 800 is the great sweet spot for this kind of title.

Online right now is a little empty but it's only 8 hours after launch.

Castlestorm was supposed to be happening this month. But it's looking like it got delayed.

Just been playing around in explore mode online on Motorcross Madness. Did what I did years ago and battled till I got to the highest point I could see.

The Motocross Madness trial does not launch for me. Straight into a freeze with a black screen. I re-downloaded it and still the same.

Hmmm, is it difficult to find games?

I finally got around to playing it last month. There is still a large player base and every time I booted it up I was in-game and running around within 45 seconds with a good number of other players. DICE made a very solid game.

The demo gives you a bit off free time to play with other people so you can check if there are enough people playing at the times you would likely be playing at.

when is the Dungeon & Dragon game suppose to come out

Should be out in June.

Marketplace link for Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons popped up - http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Brothers/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802584112a5

Going through cert at the moment.

Anyone want to make an OT for Motocross so we can set up a GAF bike club in the game?

I could do it but not until I get home...

I could whip up some simple screen grabs and a header maybe, but not tonight as i'm off soon.

There are some serious flaws with this game in two parts, firstly landing big air is a roll of the dice, you can do your best or even touch nothing but you will crash on landing, second is that on the fire and ice track there is an invisible wall in the middle of the track, I just hit it twice in 3 laps online and it lost me first place :/ i doubt it will ever be removed but it's right on the racing line near the start.

Also playing online, like with sonic ASR transformed it causes collision differences and lag, you will play worse online for some weird reason because of weird collisions.
