The police are treating it as related right now. JFK Library is saying it was a fire in the mechanical room.

Comissioner originally said it was related as a result of explosion. Reports now are that it was "fire" related and unrelated. (via CNN)

That's what I thought as well.

I heard the police chief say something like, "we don't know but we're treating it as a part of the bombing". I hate it when they draw conclusions based on incomplete information which just gets perpetuated the vast network of internet.
