Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | April 2013 | Sacrifice your Independent Soul

Texture Sacrifice > Framerate Sacrifice

If it ran as bad as AC: Liberation I wouldn't play it.
I had a friend hop on my account for me to buy Liberation since I didn't have power because of Hurricane Sandy and I needed to spend the $100 for $20 promotion back in October.

bad decision on my part, so many bugs and framerate and eeergh

? Was the studio closing was within the same month as the other studio expanding?

I only know about how Team ICO is treated like royalty.

That's what Yoshida said when asked why they closed down studios. They money that funded those studios didn't necessarily disappear, they just got redirected to build other teams.

SCE as a whole don't seem interested in supporting Vita. They've announced more first party PS4 games so far than Vita ones.
Well, you've certainly moved away from the original discussion, but if that's what you want to have...

First party games Vita
Killzone: Mercenary
Tearaway
Warrior's Lair
Epic Mickey 2
Invizimals: The Alliance
Over My Dead Body Vita

First party games PS4
Infamous: Second Son
Knack
Killzone: Shadow Fall
Drive Club

(And yes, I'm counting both internally and externally developed titles, they're both SCE supporting the Vita with a development budget.)

Sony seems more interested in shutting down the studios that did make a game for Vita in favour of expanding those who won't.
Bend, Cambridge, San Diego, Studio Japan, Santa Monica External Development, and XDev are still around, no?

Hurricane Sandy was in August? o_O

Tomorrow. 4/16

What a glorious day it will be.

Love that nobody in here realizes that Texture Sacrifice is just the accepted name for Soul Sacrifice ever since Totobeni dubbed it as such. :P

Here's a good laugh:

How many of those were announced this year? Two. Neither are developed by a studio Sony owns.

Bend, Cambridge, San Diego, Studio Japan, Santa Monica External Development, and XDev are still around, no?

SCE Japan Studio has nothing announced for Vita, neither does Bend or San Diego. The other two aren't actual development studios but work as assistance.

What kickstarter is that for? That's so dumb.

Edit: Oh, just saw that the image was clickable, lol. :(

I downloaded Disgia (sp?) 3 for my Vita, largely because it was free w/ plus.

I don't usually play JRPG's (or SRPG's as it was referred to earlier in this thread - what is a SRPG?) - anyways, main point of this post, is Disgia 3 anything like Persona? As I didn't expect to get into that game, but now love it.

I shouldn't even touch this one.

SRPG = Strategy RPG. Usually has a combat grid for battles and various job classes. JRPG and SRPG are pretty different IMO, but as I haven't played Persona 4, I can only guess that Disgaea and P4G are nothing alike.

persona - decent story, spread out over 80 hours of gameplay. Gameplay is turn based with demon collecting not that unlike pokemon, with lots of side gameplay elements.

Disgaea 3: goofy story, spread out over like 30 hours for the main story, plus a few hundred hours for the optional stuff. Gameplay is done on a grid where you move your characters in range to attack things. You have a party made up of your own forces for 50 plus classes, and the power level is over 9000 (literally, your level can go up to 9999... multiple times)

those are very quick and drity run downs but to put it simply, they are pretty much nothing alike

edit: quick gameplay video of disgaea 3 that shows off the power scale... I recommend turning off the sound as the video recorder has annoying music in the background.

Totally agree, terrible frame rate ruins the game in general. I can deal with ok graphics, I actually thought everything but the ground looked decent and I am pretty sure we won't be looking at the ground since the monsters kinda of tower over us.

I assumed we were using it just to make a joke out of it :P.

Well fuck them. Putting 3DS above iOS? they clearly already set their minds on their priorities. Even if they reach the stretch goal I don't think they would actually deliver a good product.

I do love the $40k difference between getting the game from PC to 3DS/Wii U/iOS and suddenly it's $100k more to just add Vita.

You can't just force a developer to work on a handheld game. All of Sony's first party developers have expertise in the console space, it takes another caliber of developer to make handheld games. Sony has tried and tried again by forcing devs to make console type games for either PSP or PSVita and it has always failed for them. It is a complete waste of time.

IMO handheld market is just complete shit...Sony should just focus on PS4 as much as possible.

well depending on the engine they are using a port to ios could be almost as easy as a click of a button.
as for the 3ds/wiiu being low, it's quite possible that they are fans of nintendo and they want to be on nintendo more. It's not impossible for a game creator to be a fan of a company.

Or maybe there is an unknown side to getting games on the vita that we haven't heard about yet *shrugs*

it's likely just not a priority for them. I'd just get it on the pc anyways so it doesn't matter much to me.

Oh, we are. But people don't seem to have picked up on that, so we're getting serious discussions about textures vs. framerate. :P

God of War: Chains of Olympus, and Gran Turismo PSP both sold over 3 million copies. Neither franchise has a Vita game announced.

That 200k tier is pure trolling.

Seriously, Sony is giving out free devkits from what I understand. How would it cost that much more to get a vita version? Unless they wanted to completely revamp the game to better fit the vita (I highly doubt it).

Anyone having trouble accessing the Store from their Vita this past week? I can sign-in to PSN just fine but keep getting errors when I try to access the store.

That's a pretty arbitrary argument, considering those PS4 titles have likely been in development for longer than most of the Vita ones going by the studio's previous releases. And, yeah, several are external projects. They still cost Sony money, hence the whole "support" thing.

And most of Sony's internal developers were external ones at one point, y'know.

SCE Japan Studio has nothing announced for Vita, neither does Bend or San Diego. The other two aren't actual development studios but work as assistance.
Neither did BigBig, Zipper or Liverpool when they got shut down, so I guess they weren't actually a loss for the Vita then?

And Santa Monica External and XDev are not just "work assistance", they act as producers for Sony, choosing which projects to fund, and supervising their development until they're finished. They are responsible for the Vita having games like Sound Shapes and LittleBigPlanet.

Going tell you right now 200k will never happen. Vita port is just a side job for them.

Sidejob? It seems more like a joke and then later they'll come out and say "Hey, we offered it guys! Demand wasnt big enough! *shrug*"

don't really get how it translate too..
in the event VitaGAF comes together... helps to tip it to 200K...
we still won't get a Vita copy of the game right?

since it's not part of the rewards... (so we still have to buy the Vita copy when it comes out?)

I think they simply didnt add it as a reward because... ITS A JOKE. 200k for a Vita version of a game they wanted 35k for. Seriously. Man. I mean even if you ONLY consider the last jump towards the Vita tier, its 50k. The highest jump in the entire Kickstarter, so the development for Vita costs 15k MORE than designing and making the original game?

-.-

Haha. No way I'm donating, especially since they obviously don't care about releasing it on the Vita in the first place. Shame, would look really nice on it.

early projections for the project have it ending at around 170k, it's not uncommon for projects that have reasonable/interesting stretch goals to get a boost at the end if they are close, so 200k isn't impossible, not highly likely but not impossible.

the last video game project I backed (small world 2) projected to end at around 250k after the first 5 days passed and it didn't have good stretch goals. and it ended at almost 400k.

aka never say never :P
