Earthbound Coming to Wii U Virtual Console in NA / Europe

Yeah but the prices are massively inflated. You know how many copies of that game were made? Millions. It sold like shit and there was a shitload of leftovers. Collectors and sellers sell it at astronomical prices because they know you all will suck it up and drain your wallets for it.

It doesn't matter: it's still hard to find a cheap copy. The point remains...

I'm frankly surprised at the confused posts, even as not a fan of the series or rpgs in general I know why this is such a huge deal for the fanbase, the game was really hard to get given the status it has, Ness isn't in Smash Bros just for no reason. But people have such negativity with the WiiU recently even news of this size are met with cinicism.

That’s the question – it’s quite possible certain parts of the music/visuals have been changed.

Which in turn, will keep the SNES copies high. Not crazy high as they are now, but still not that low, due to it being the ‘pure/original’ version. Potentially.
If it is modified then yes, probably the original carts won't have a considerable price drop.

I can own this without having to pay absurd second hand market prices, thank you based Iwata.

This gives new hope for Mother 3, even if it's only an eShop release.

Good news for SNES collectors as well. Those ridiculous second hand prices will take a tumble down to more reasonable levels now.

yes I suppose, but for those of us who invested in the complete sealed copy in 1999 it sucks.

well I at least have my scratch n sniff stickers. haha

I actually did tear up a little bit after this announcement. No joke.

Miiverse victory!

Thrilled that both NA and EU are getting it, too. Wii U owners, BUY THIS GAME. Support the efforts of the fan community!

Sigh. So, 2 huh? Not going to localize 1?

I believe they finished translating Mother 1 back in the day, and then just decided not to release it for the NES for whatever reason. There are three or four legit prototypes out there that are worth a fuck ton of cash.

meh

too bad virtual console games are horrible on wiiU

no options to fill the screen vertically

i dont play games that are completely boxed in

looks stupid

The only way I would have been more shocked is if they had announced Mother 4, developed by Monolith Soft.

Can't wait to legally own and play this game for the first time. Next up: Mother 3, just hire the fan translators and make that translation official.

Oh.

I don't particularly care about this port, but hopefully it's successful enough to punch Nintendo into localizing Mother 3 at some point in our lifetime.

It's not Mother 3, but supporting this game could lead to an eventual Mother 3 localization on the GBA VC.

No guarantees, but with these sorts of games (and series) it's all about baby steps. You have to start somewhere!

Haha I'm laughing so hard right now. I mean congrats to people who are excited by this, but I'm laughing over how sad it is.

Do you really have to shit in every WiiU related thread when you clearly have no interest in the console or Nintendo in general? This game being released is as big of a deal as when System Shock 2 and Thief finally got digital distribution.

The cart costs around $100 anyways, unless your downloading illegal, naughty boy!

$100 for a copy of Earthbound would be an insanely good price. I just sold one a week ago because I found a copy that was in better condition than the one I had, the copy I sold with a slightly torn up label went for $250. Prices are insane for this game.

Really? You mean it can be played at native res (2x nearest neighbor would also work, I guess) instead of being nastily stretched out and filtered?

Can anyone confirm this?

Yeah and I remember thinking to myself "oh cool, I guess" for those. I didn't lose my shit like it was a sequel made in the style of the old games or anything.

I don't know if it has been said in thread yet, but the announcement has me hyped not for a 20-year-old emulated title, so much as the fact that Nintendo is owning the francise again in the Western world.

For all the myths, truths, etc... regarding Nintendo's fears about copyright issues, etc... which supposedly derailed the series, this is a pretty overt way of saying, "we realize this series matters, and has an audience." The implication alone will provide hope, for a while, for a possible Mother 3 release, or GASP, Mother 4 down the road?

EarthBound in Europe? What is this MADNESS?

I can't wait to finally play this. And bring Mother 3 along as well, thanks
