Earthbound Coming to Wii U Virtual Console in NA / Europe

I like how this thread is split between people who are crying tears of joy and people who are apathetic. Hopefully that will change next time around when they bring over Mother 3. :P
 
I'm absolutely shocked at this announcement. I never thought it would happen.

I'll be buying this the moment it hits the eShop.

I was actually talking about the people who have no idea what Earthbound was about and why it's been so hyped. I can only imagine that some people among here will be pulled in from that apathy and end up rallying behind support for Mother 3.

I never thought about it but the toilet is totally the most appropriate place to play this game.

Great news and about time Nintendo. I wonder if the sales for Earthbound will effect the likelyhood for Mother 3 to come out in USA/EU. If that is the case, everybody buy 2 copies each!!

As happy as I am to finally see this get a release, I'm probably not going to be buying a Wii-U any time soon. I wonder if this might lead to inklings of a mother 3 official localization and release (although the fan-translated one is pretty good from what little I tried). I would be so over that, if that were true.
 
Would be pretty cool if this came out on regular Wii somehow, I've had 800 points sitting there forever. Also if Nintendo's gauging sales for interest, they should put it on the platform with an actual userbase ha (even if it's currently dead).

Excited I'll eventually get a way to play this finally after passing back in the day though. If I can get a good Wii U bundle for $200 this holiday it might even be a system seller in the same way that Gunstar Heroes was my Wii system seller heh.

It's pretty cool news. I just recently replayed EarthBound last month and fell in love with it all over again. I sure hope all of the newcomers enjoy it as much as everyone else who played it has.

I doubt it unless they're really hardcore with their Earthbound fandom. You don't just drop $300+ for the ability to support an $8 game.

That said, by the time EB releases on the Wii U VC in NA/EU, the Wii U will be slightly more worth owning, since it'll have all of the Summer releases and whatever else.

Nintendo said "by the end of the year" so I'm thinking it'll be the Fall before we actually get Earthbound.

still gonna buy a repro cart for mother 3 english translation, wish we knew there was some kinda shot at that but it doesnt seem likely

Did you see how heavily they featured Miiverse in that announcement? From now on it should be clear that the social aspect is one side of the Miiverse - but on the other hand it seems like a neat analyze tool for Nintendo

Miiverse isn't just there for cool drawings - it's for you and Nintendo; they seem to listen and it's exciting to watch how far customer influence can go

I guess, since the official localization has been done already.

In a perfect world, Nintendo would just use Tomato & co.'s Mother 3 localization and compensate them... how nice that would be...
 
Just watched the Nintendo Direct and ended up dropping my iPod Touch at the first mention of Earthbound. I am so fucking happy right now. :)
 
After spamming the Japanese Mother 2 Miiverse, muthafuckas better buy the shit out of this. I don't need to buy a Wii U for this since I still have my original SNES game, but if it leads to a new Mother game or an official localization of Mother 3, then I'll pick up whatever system gets it.
 
Miiverse is a nice way for players to interact with each other and to interact with Nintendo.

Combine the existence of Miiverse and Club Nintendo and you have a couple of services that give voices to the customers. We should embrace them and use them. Obviously making obnoxious demands isn't always the way to go, but actual feedback is useful on all sides.
 
Looking back at the old Earthbound Central legal posts, time certainly does fly.

Wonderful to see it finally re-released, hopefully it'll hit the 3DS as well. <3
 
I...wut...holy shit...i don't know what to say. As a long time fan of the Mother series with a dead EB cart, I never believed this would happen. I kinda still don't believe it

as an owner of said cart & book since its first week of release: id be good with the price plummeting, it (and other SNES carts) are way too high right now and i want more people experiencing that game, not just collectors

I honestly didn't think all of the clamor for it on Miiverse would have helped at all, but I'm really glad to be proven wrong there.
