Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | April 2013 | Sacrifice your Independent Soul

DOA5+ or NLKS ,which one got more outrageous and expensive dlcs bullshit that is more offensive to the fans and supporters of the games than the other.

help me decide.

DOA 5+ by far. $15 AUD for one costume set (which doesn't even include every character) is insane.

Edit: oh shit, new page! Buy video games!

hmm. not sure if I'm digging SS.
the gameplay/combat is pretty awesome
but the whole theme isn't doing it for me
I'm the opposite at the moment. I love the premise, I love the structure of the game but I'm not yet feeling the gameplay. Definitely need to practice more though, because I have it on pre-order and it looks like I might need to call Sony if I want to cancel.

The little backstories into all the places and creatures and stuff in SS are just amazing.

I like that... but Librom... is kinda annoying to say the least... (was hoping for some deep sad voice...)
maybe the voice of Gollum would be nice...

what am I saying..
will give the game another go before coming to a final decision.

I had almost no interest in Soul Sacrifice, but after playing the demo gatdamn.

My biggest issue with Soul Sacrifice demo atm is that..there's no progression! :( They capped the tears at 100, they capped the arm at level 20 combined max (10/10), and most frustratingly they capped the spell levels to 3. I've already hit 8/12 arm level, and most of my spells are 2-3 stars.

I mean I guess if I really wanted to I could get a bunch of every level 3 spell so that when the game comes out I can fuse them together to make a max level version..but that's just silly.

It's a demo, you know...

I know. But imagine it was a 3 month demo instead of a 2 week demo. Just a shame there's nothing to grind in the demo for a slight advantage beyond preparing spells you'll likely replace immediately anyways. Oh well!

To be fair, for a demo its pretty damn loaded with content.

Must have put 3-4 hours into this last night. Pretty impressive. I have paid for full games that I have played less.

My only issues are
• Books voice
• People online use up the power recharges way to early.

Its like there fav spell runs low so they use up the power recharge. Happened on all 3 attempts online for Cerberus.

Was personally running with Ice spell, rock arm, HoT. Then on second bar have Long range spell (shoots 3 daggers or something), axe and then normal heal.

This gives me about 20-25 range casts, 8-10 melee spells and about 10 heal spells before needing to recharge. However before I have even used 1 of my spells up I notice most the charge points have gone.

Oh well. Cerberus def takes a kicking and needs people to play properly. On my last attempt last night people just kept dying over and over. After resurrecting them a few times and realising people had drained everything but the charge point at the start of the map, I went back there and charged. Resurrected everyone, healed up. Then 2 guys dyed again.

So by this point We had used up almost all spell power (do recharge points ever reappear?) me and at least one other person did that skin sacrifice things (although I know his missed because it went off while Cerberus had jumped (not sure if mine hit). So seeing as these people just keep dying I thought I would get some use out of him.

You getting sacrificed. And other guy saves the other dude. We hardly have anything left to hit him with and I got trapped in a corner and couldn't roll out. Me and one other guy go down. Only one thing for it. We both cry out "Sacrifice me".

2 more glorious sacrifices to try and take down Cerberus. As a ghost I look at the damage we have done........ Still almost half its HP left............Oh shiiiiiiiittttt. Gonna need better players lol.

I do like that the resources seem finite so that in the toughest fight its highly likely that some people will need to be sacrificed to take them down.

My only issue is that my son is due to be born about the time the game is due for release. On the flip side I have 2 weeks off work for when that happens and there will be times when the kid and the wife are just asleep. Might actually have time to play it. I will see. Def a good game.

As for the floor textures. They look no where near as bad as the slightly blown up screen shots. They pretty much look fine on the Vita itself. The wern't a distraction at all. Was most admiring the animations of the monsters to be honest which is what is most impressive visually.

This is a major problem online. Oh no my shitty ranged spell has nearly ran out. Fuck all my other spells ill just waste an offering!

I literally use all my spells to breaking point then sacrifice/use offerings!

Yeah same. But thats what happens playing with a PUG I guess.

Will play some more tonight I think. look a bit more into the spell upgrade system. How do you combine? I know I can select a spell and you use the extras you have to make a more powerful version. Is there a point to make new spells by combining different ones?

Did a 3-man run of Jack-O-Lantern.

My two teammates used all three refresh boxes right at the start..they killed like one dog. I think one teammate used a second box right after he used a first, just to use it..naturally I did almost all the work killing it :x

Felt so good sacrificing them both to kill it though :) Wish there was a chat system so I could tell them not to do that.

For a reason best known to myself I thought Soul Sacrifice would be a fighting game e.g like Soul Caliber.

I have now played them demo - its an action rpg (and its great.)

I posted this in case I am not the only one (which I probably am!)

You were probably mixing it with Soul Calibur ? ;)

Are you guys seriously expecting people will know all this after 15-30 minutes of playing demo ?

Yes and No.

Yes as in it clearly tells you what it does and even highlights and shows the spells replenishing.

No as in I full expect people to not pay any attention and just wanna hit stuff and hog all the powerzz

Anyone have a list of 'points' and what to do to achieve them? Trying to get the rare spells from the missions but not sure if I should rush the boss or play it more save ala which one rewards more.

I don't have a list but the biggest factors are A) Speed and B) Damage Taken. If you take 0 damage you get like 150pt, if you finish it fast you get 100pt.

Then counters: if you attack a monster right in the middle of it's attack animation you get a counter bonus of 30pt, and there are stacking bonuses if you keep getting them.

All you need to do a lot of the time is be fast, don't get hit, counter the basic enemies before the boss and you'll get max rank.

Lastly (that I've paid attention to) is a one-time bonus for hitting a boss with its weakness, one-time 10pt bonus for using that special vision, one bonus (50pt?) for hitting a boss's weak spot, and another 30 or 50pt for breaking it.

@dan: Is the framerate issue due to latency? Online MP has been smooth for me.

Ah ok makes sense. Gonna gear myself for speed and range then!
Thanks!

Rare spells from missions? For every mission? Can I get them over and over as well?

Well the framerate is pretty jacked with a full team online.

Can anyone confirm that the full game is this bad?

I have not noticed this at all in the demo. I am not really going out of my way to look for it but it seemed to run very smoothly with a max party.

Dammit man, I've been so busy with work this week, I haven't even got the time to check out the demo. And I gotta screw around with storage space T___T

Ill meet up with y'all soon, I got a 4 day weekend comin up

Does anyone know if the prices for the Muramasa DLC have been announced (for Japan), and whether or not they'll include trophies?

edit: Ok, I found that the price will be 500 yen per scenario (4 scenarios) and each scenario will be 2 stages long, but is there any word on trophies?

Aren't trophies mandatory for any DLC with gameplay ?

Just guessing here but I would think you should be able to get them over and over. I mean, you need to get copies of the same spell to fuse them together to improve them. For example, you have to do well enough (better than first-rate sorceror I think?) to get the "Imp Pitchfork" on one of the very first levels. I did well enough two different times when playing that level so I got that pitchfork twice and was able to merge them together to improve the spell. :)

I think part of the whole progression in this game is to do a bit of grinding when you want to repeat a mission to get the rewards to improve your spells (gear). And that you are rewarded more by doing the missions quickly, efficiently, and effectively.

Or that's the impression I've gotten from playing through most of the demo and from what I've seen online and read about.

EDIT: I'm not saying grinding is "required", but if you keep running out of a spell charge on a spell you need to bring down a particular boss or monster then "grinding" through the mission that gives out that spell as a quest reward to improve the spell you need is a method of helping to progress past a particular boss fight. Other methods of course include simply trying again - perhaps with a different loadout...

EDIT2: I found that even in the demo I enjoyed going through the missions several times. Feels good to completely dominate a boss or a group of monsters later on with improved spells (and you know what you are doing) and it can go very very quickly...

You will not have time, I too am a new father with a Vita. Prepare yourself.

Really love the feel (gameplay and atmosphere) of Soul Sacrifice, but I'm also in the dark as to how most of its systems work and progress. Does anyone know of a good place to do some reading that'll help me wrap my head around all of it?

I've been running into that a lot in the last week or so - a lot of times it just hangs at the preparing to download screen.

Had it happen to me as well last night when I went to download the SS demo. Then it hung my Vita when I cancelled the download.

I had to power off and back on before it would kick off the download. But once it started downloading, the 1.2GB downloaded very quickly for me. I don't know if the recent maintenance had anything to do with that or if I just got lucky.

Thank you!

I started my SS demo, walked away from the Vita for a bit, then found out when I came back to it that the download never occurred--it wasn't even listed in my system-level activity feed. Freakin' odd. Anyway, started it a 2nd time and things went smoothly.

My download hung. I waited for a while, then turned off my system. I started it up, tried again, noticed it was downloading, then left the house to pick up my son.

That Harpy is so ugly looking. Every time she eats me it makes me want to vomit.

I like what NLKS did with the DLC. I prefer games to not have DLC, so it's nice when the base game has everything in it, and the DLC is just unlocks that can be ignored. Don't even need to sift through a flock of DLC trying to find a new level or anything. Perfect!
