Boston: One dead, one captured, city re-opened

But dealing with terrorists that way actually means the terrorists won. They now know that you don't even have to do all that much to terrorize many and essentially bring a city to its knees, and waste huge amounts of tax money in the process. This is one 19 year old kid, not the IRA or RAF.

While this is one side of the coin, the other side of the coin is this tells all terrorists that we have a particular set of skills. We WILL find you, we WILL kill/arrest you. You WON'T get away with shit. You think the next 19 year old is going to get duped into thinking you can commit an act of terror and get away scott free?

Are you the judge of when terrorists win and lose?

I'd rather spend a ton of money and resources doing everything we can to catch this potential mass murdered (who tried to murder 1000+ people 4 days ago, and obviously had plans to murder more) than run the risk of even 1 other person dying by his hands.

If preventing another mass murder attempt means "the terrorists win" then, by all means, then that's a "loss" I'm more than happy to take.

On the topic of effectively shutting the city down to catch a single person, the thing I wonder most of all is how long are the authorities prepared to do this? If he doesn't get caught today or tonight, will Boston be on lockdown until they do?

I'm guessing if nothing happens in the next 24 hours they'll pull back their efforts.

I just wanna laugh at all the people in this thread and all over the internet that were CONVINCED it was the dude that has been missing.

FUCK off with that shit. EAT CROW.

Thanks for the people in this thread reminding people of what has been confirmed and not confirmed.

Maybe they just happened to be there when someone else robbed it? Lol, otherwise, its related.

The 7/11 robbery doesn't make any sense to me, why would they go and do this after their faces get plastered all over the news as bombing suspects?

Also, at this point, I wonder if Dzhokhar is held up at a safe house somewhere? It makes me wonder if he is staying at a friend/ realities place just to lay low.

So the guy killed one cop and injured 15 others, yet (according to the father) the cops were "cowards" for shooting his son? I know he is in full-blown denial, but that is kind of a fucked up thing to say.

This whole situation seems odd to me. I don't quite understand why two kids who people who know them say how good they are and how normal they are, one of their twitter seems so normal to the days leading up, one of them had a good future in boxing, how can a 19 year old out run police and avoid being caught for this long? I am not agreeing with anyone saying the government did this or anything as I don't believe they would have but the situation seems completely fucked.

Because sometimes people snap.

What?

No it doesn't. This sends a clear message: you do terrorism, we'll stop and nothing to bring you to justice. That's how it should be.
If I were intent on harming the US I would find it very interesting the extent to which two punks with pressure cookers and ball bearings can disrupt an entire city. Sounds like asymmetric warfare.

So it's better to just send 10 cops after him when he could be anywhere and could potentially be strapped and loaded with weapons and explosives?

Exactly, they did something like that and it ended with one Cop down and a bunch of them in the hospital. This isn't a matter of being a liberal of conservative. This kid is dangerous.

I posted a few pages back but my post got buried.

Fox news reported that the suspects didn't actually rob the 7-11, only purchased gas and got picked up on the security camera. I wondered too why they would rob a store but it appears they didn't.

...the hell are you talking about?

Been watching since the start but had to leave. Same updates since the old man with the dead trigger? What happened with that and since?

Sorry in advance, on my phone and out.

WHDH says they did a facial recognition to identify Suspect #1's corpse. Looks like that dead body pic is fake judging from what you guys described.

So was the manhunt only in high gear when they decided to rob the 7-eleven? Just seems so strange how easily they could have been far away had they not done that, not to mention them staying in Boston until last night. The fuck were they thinking?

Eh that's kind of a silly definition of terrorist victory; it's one or two days of the city being frozen due to a police search, not years and years; if this extended for, say, months, I'd say the terrorists won.

They had more explosives; if the FBI hadn't shown their hand, they could easily have committed another bombing because nobody had any idea of who they were. They reacted with extreme violence to the cops, which shows that regular law enforcement wouldn't work in this case.

Been lurking since this started, but figure I'll drop in here.

It's a tragedy anytime someone is killed. But they bombed a prolific and public event. The only reason that there weren't many more fatalities is because it didn't spread shrapnel as far as it was supposed to.

Last night, they committed armed robbery, cold blooded murder, carjacked someone, got in a car chase, chucked grenades and another bomb like the Boston one at cops (that thankfully failed), and one is still at large.

They've terrorized the city. I get what you're saying in terms of force, but this has to stop.

seriously.

not to make light of the situation, but its similar in GTA3 when you would go nuts, each time you went more nuts it would escalate. Right now this guy is practically sitting at 5 stars of law enforcement.

I am normally one to agree and say they have no right to search the premises of private residences. But in cases like this its absolutely necessary.

Depends but I don't really think this will go on, someone somewhere will spot him remember this is the most wanted man in the entire state probably the country right now.

Poor kid then, hope they capture him alive and confront his acts.

It sucks, but he certainly isn't a poor kid. He made the decision to go along with it and to accept whatever was offered up to him. I in no way place any blame on the other brother or anyone else for pulling the young one into it if that is what happened.

Blowing up a kid makes sense to you? They are fucking lunatics. Nothing is going to make sense.

It will either end up (if hes caught alive) being typical extremest illogical bullshit or that he's just fucking insane. Either way i just want him six feet under.

I get that but how normal his tweets were the days leading up and after don't indicate snapping. I get that I shouldn't read too much into that but still, seems weird.
Of course. You don't start acting irrational and crazy before you try to blow people up because that would set off red flags to people around you.

Aren't terrorist trained into acting normal, fitting in? If you were going to do something like this would you suddenly change your behavior? No, you wouldn't.

Actually I think this deserves to get addressed again.

If we don't go with the full force of our conviction and arrest/kill this guy, then we don't send a message with the next 20-something who gets a bright idea to try this.

You do this to send a message to others like him.

And also do this because this psycho himself has proven capable of not just one act of violence, but several, and has the capacity for more.

1) The older brother was described by his own uncle, this morning (before he knew they were wanted for the marathon bombing) as "a loser and a prick." He had nothing good to say about him.

2) he did not have a future in boxing... he's 26 and was boxing in independent circuits in small Massachusetts towns.

3) The 19 year old got a $2500 scholarship to a mediocre public college in Massachusetts. I mean, sure, that's better than nothing but it's not like he was some prodigy.

But, it is a good question, why would any two people do this. It's a legitimate question to ask, but when it starts to get towards the "why would any two people do this, therefore I think that it is a setup/conspiracy," that's another question all together.
