Equal footing for both parties. Darkness conceals both parties. Now, use of lighting while labelled as an advantage, it still impacts the officers diminishing their abilities. I remember when I had night fire training with multiple cars with light bars flashing it can really throw off your focus. It can create "shadowing" that throws off your accuracy, focus, perception. Night vision is cool when you're in a majorly dim/dark area, but with lights flashing, it throws off this tech as well.
What would have been the true advantage, and deciding factor in this, is if they had Helo support with FLIR and similar technology. This would have been over now.
