And why not conceal your appearance at the marathon better? If they did so they could have gone on for god knows how long without being caught.

And what's this about the FBI having been tipped off about the brother having Al Qaeda connections? Apparently Russia told Murrica about him, and the FBI actually talked to the older brother before? That to me sounds like pretty big news and what may end up developing as te next big thing as we wait for this kid to eventually spill the beans (and in that case, will the media even know about sensitive information like that if it turns out to be a bigger network?)

These are not rational, logical people. They are (or, were in one case) people set out to kill and injure many, many people. That's not normal. That's not logical. It's not what you or I or any other sane person would do. Therefore, they weren't thinking clearly. They probably had some sort of God-like complex. Who knows. But, it's definitely true that you have to be more than just a little "off" to do what they did, and that also means you may not think the whole thing through.

From reading his stuff on Twitter, I hope there's still some sense left in the kid so that one day he can realize just how horrible of an act he committed. And when he does, that weight on his conscience will be far worse than torture.
