He'll be charged in federal court. There's no death penalty in the Commonwealth, but if he's charged in federal court they have the death penalty. The fact they had a U.S. Attorney (federal prosecutor) at the press conference means he'll be charged with federal crimes. I'm not a fan of the death penalty and the guy is 19, so who knows what will happen. If I were him I'd be begging for the death penalty instead of being kept alive in a super max Fed prison where you are locked up 23 hours of the day.

It is up to the prosecutors. Sometimes they don't go for the death penalty in order to get an admission. In this case, I don't think the suspect has much leverage.

there was no 7/11 coincidence, it was mis-reported. There was no burglary or shooting at the 7/11

Correct. The death penalty is an option if they pursue it as mentioned by the US Attorney during the press conference.

I saw the picture of the older brother dead with a hole in his chest, and full of blood, and I must admit I felt a strange sense of satisfaction seeing the fucker in that state. But then I took a step back and it scared the shit out of me that I had displayed that emotion. We are better than to let our emotions get the best of us. Justice must prevail.

I still can't believe how fucking crazy it was when we had the Boston Marathon bombing thread, and then a completely separate 'MIT Campus shooting' thread and then the realization that they were both connected over the police scanners.

If what was provided was really his twitter account he actually tweeted something against suicide.

The whole feed of his is just weird. Literally sounds like a normal kid posting the most mundane things. Sad.

You don't know that. Sounds like he was injured pretty bad in the initial firefight last night. He might have simply lost so much blood that he had no will to fight left. The body and mind shuts down pretty hard after you lose enough blood.

When he recovers from those injuries, he might be the same asshole who was smiling while he blew that 8 yr old kid to pieces.
 
Went to bed at page 90 and have finally caught up after reading all morning. GAF was really great at aggregating all the relevent stuff and filtering out the bad. Thanks to all who kept everyone apprised of the situation. Now lets hope the doctors work some magic and make this guy explain his motives.

Speaking of which, this might be a good time to remind folks that cheering on torture and prison rape are frowned upon on GAF.

I don't know, the video of the shootout where they found him sounds pretty intense.

Seems like he was different from his brother, but it also seems like he was perfectly willing to take out some cops trying to escape.

And dont forget the people of Boston who cooperated by following instructions and "staying indoors" allowing all those involved with the manhunt / investigation to do their jobs.

Really glad to see how the whole situation was handled.
 
So f**king sad seeing the NBC interview with the father who had both his wife and daughter suffer the direct blast from the Boston bombing, resulting in both becoming full amputees :/

If the older brother dug deeper into darker aspects of his religion, I wouldn't be surprised if he was dragged into it by him. Even the uncle said he was a good, quiet kid, so obviously something that happened recently or someone close to him influenced him, which isn't anywhere near being an excuse but certainly an interesting aspect to this tragedy.
