Doesn't this mean even less autonomy for NOA? That can't be a good thing.
Yes, this is the same position the new CEO of Square Enix moved to before Wada left.
That's not to say Iwata will leave for sure, but if he does, this guy will likely be his replacement.

Not a single staple went missing from the supply cupboard under his watch.Did they mention why this clown got promoted? He must've been doing some awesome things in a business sense behind the scenes, because, well...
So Kimishima is the man who might be king, then.
Do we know anything about the guy's background?

So the guy that was CEO of NoA during the GCN years will be leading Nintendo now? I'm not so sure about this move.

Under Kimishima's leadership the company was able to relive the success that it had in the late 80's and early 90's
I'm still confused based on how some people are posting in this thread. I assumed this did mean Iwata was done as global president. And people were already confused about whether or not Iwata was leaving his role as gobal president with the previous topic title, this will probably on mislead more people.
Maybe they have figured out that North America is the most important gaming market (sales-wise) and are transitioning to where Kimishima can take over NOJ (because things are relatively fine over there) while Iwata assumes his position as President of Nintendo while taking over NOA.
I'm so confused with the thread title and what it says in that paragraph. Anyone want to explain it to me please?
1. Iwata is still CEO of Nintendo
2. Iwata has promoted Tatsumi Kimishima (CEO + Director of Nintendo of America + Board Member)
3. Kimishima will take Mori's (General Manager, Corporate Analysis and Administration) and Matsumoto's (GM, Finance and Information Systems, GM, General Affairs, GM, Finance Department) positions.
4. Kimishima's official job title will be "NCL Managing Director," and he's in the top position to take over if Iwata gets fired as CEO in 2014.
5. Iwata, if fired as CEO in 2014, will still stay in the company as CEO of Nintendo of America.
Maybe this will improve Nintendo of America.
1. Iwata is still CEO of Nintendo

Silly you. Nintendo has been working on robot Yamauchi for years now. It's only a matter of time.Could it be Iwata has cloned himself? Or made a cyborg Iwata for NoA.
This could be less of a promotion and more of a sideways punt to remove a perceived stumbling block.
Thanks for the break down. Still confused why they'd tap Kimishima though and not someone from NCL for that position. It's not like NoA has been this beacon of success.1. Iwata is still CEO of Nintendo
2. Iwata has promoted Tatsumi Kimishima (CEO + Director of Nintendo of America + Board Member)

5. Iwata, despite being CEO of Nintendo, will now be CEO + Director of Nintendo of America AS WELL.
6. Iwata, if fired as CEO in 2014, will still stay in the company as CEO of Nintendo of America.
I updated the title a bit.
The guy who was NoA's CEO was promoted to the Japanese position most likely to get Iwata's job were Iwata to leave, and Iwata subsumed his old job.
I like Iwata. I give him credit for outselling the competition and selling more last generation. It was a gamble that paid off handsomely. They put less tech in and improved their position. They are in a better position for this generation where they can perservere and will avoid the Sega Situation. Not sure why people want him fired.
What in the WORLD.
Hey, Nintendo, he's not the reason why anything was successful over there. And he's certainly not going to sell consoles over here.
I don't....I just....what.
This is even stranger than I initially thought. CEO of Nintendo of Japan and America at the same time? Wut.1.
