The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

and yeah I agree. Constantly quickloading when you get caught is doable but you're gonna get bored. Dishonored is about pulling off crazy awesome stunts fast, not really about worrying when you break your stealth.

One of Daud's abilities in the DLC is freezing time while you hold your Blink reticle, as long as you aren't moving, which means you can jump, freeze and change directions in mid-air. Nice for controller players, but I love doing crazy jump-Blinks at full speed with the mouse. The Bonfires mode in the trials DLC is absolutely glorious, because after a while you start having to take blind leaps into empty space before the next bonfire has even spawned and saving yourself with a Blink as soon as you catch sight of it.

Patrick is pretty bad at Dishonored

also playing it with a gamepad seems like a nightmare

This.

I know Patrick was kind of down on the first Dishonored DLC, but that was actually great at teaching you the mechanics, which made the main game a lot more enjoyable for me.

Quick Look: Starseed Pilgrim (Patrick & Jeff)

It's really an exquisite game. It has a lot of parallels with Fez's second half in both gameplay (you are exploring, experimenting and nibbling away at immense and possibly intimidating puzzles) as well as atmosphere (sense of wonder, and feeling a little lost in the world). That makes it an awkward game to quicklook.

I think that everyone who felt that Fez's late game was too obtuse or intimidating should stay away, while everyone who liked Fez owes himself to give this a try.

Here's a good post from the comments:

Awesome.

Listening to Jeff and Patrick investigate this game is exactly what I love about it. It's simple enough that you don't get paralyzed from the possibilities presented to you, and as you only have this much information given to you, it becomes a game of deducting how to use all these types of informations in unison. There are (of course) more things to find out, and (MINOR SPOILER HINT BUT NOT REALLY BUT OK I'LL BLOCK IT OUT)
stuff to deduct from the way the sound works
.

In some ways I feel this is what Jeff was also pointing towards with Fez when he called it "a game where you learn how to learn". You practice using your logic in a given circumstance and making the most out of it.

In a sense, this is how you deal with all games, if we think of it as "the first time you play a certain type/genre of game". The first time you're playing a cover based shooter, you're fiddling about trying to find out what is going on, the deal being easier because the metaphors used (guns, war, conflict, places to cover) are more easily reckognized. When the metaphors are abstract you have a much harder time, because even they don't really give you a clue. Or, in this case, maybe they also do? It is after all called seeds, and they seem to have a different life and being to each of them.

Anyway, I really love this type of game, I feel an intimacy given by them, like being shared a secret...

Yeah, that's definitely a Steam Sale game.

I will say, it seems way more like old Star Trek than the movies do.

I am starting to think that "solo" QLs would be more interesting that the majority of duo QLs.

Am I crazy?

I mean, obviously is always cool to have Vinny in there, but i am seeing myself not enjoying the rest of couples most of the time.

That's was how QLs first started.

I recently looked back, and rewatched Jeff doing Burnout and Brad doing Banjo Nuts and Bolts. They really lack the fun of modern QLs when they have no interaction.

Although anything is better than the Ninja Blade Demo thing.

QLs need two people at least. Some of the best are ones that have 3 or more, like Story Time Adventures and NSMB Wii.

I guess i might be getting tired of GB, i think that their videos are worse now, and that it look like they don't usually have any motivation towards the games.

But yeah, it might be just a personal thing, i think i am going to stop following the QL&Giantbomcast for a time.

Solo stuff works in the Bombastica videos if the person has enough knowledge of the game that they can keep talking and keep things interesting. If Jeff had done the rest of that Star Trek video solo it would have been a painful experience, its looks boring as hell and even Jeff at the top of his game probably can't make it interesting.

They should really have done this multiplayer. Hell, Alex's review pretty much specifically says that's the way to play.

It really bugs me that they continuously ignore multiplayer/co-op in Quick Looks. There's always at least two people on Quick Looks, it's baffling they almost never have more than one of them playing at a time.

Monaco (Jeff/Brad) 16:07

Just got around to watching this, they did the game a huge disservice not showing any multiplayer. Brad was one button-press away from finding online games in the level select menu. :/

Bummer that this is likely the only content it'll be in on the site. It's an absolute blast playing with friends; perfect TNT or Unprofessional Fridays material.

Blood Dragon is the only FPS I have seriously considered buying at full price in like 5 years.
it's $15.

also, i agree with jeff about the self-aware stuff, but i haven't found it particularly gross after a few hours of playing. it's silly at best, inoffensive at worst.

Bummed that blood dragon has lots of self aware crap humor in it. Enough to push me away from a purchase.

That kind of seems to be the main appeal, other than that it's essentially a skin for Far Cry 3.

The humor seems a bit hit or miss, but might be fun enough given that it's not very long or expensive.

I kinda agree that I wish it was less obviously self-aware and more straight-faced with its 80 action cheese, but still fun though.
