Microsoft has grabbed something from EA according to crazy buttocks on a train. I say Respawn's game and DLC for several other games.

The way I understand it is that there will be a larger emphasis on games at E3.

Also, Microsoft is primarily a software company striving to be an all-around entertainment company. I'm hoping that they're building the next Xbox around gamers, but I have my doubts. We'll just have to wait until May 21.

Sony is doing the same thing...

Don't expect to see all of Microsoft's game related info at this event on May 21st. They are still saving most things for E3, you can bank on that. This event on May 21st will have some game focus, but it will more largely be focused on the new OS for the next Xbox, the entertainment and social networking features, as well as services.

I think I'm definitely reading into his comment more than I should but it sure sounded like an existing IP. I've been saying Respawn's game for a while now -- but that sounds like a huge risk. It seems like something we would associate with EA yet Respawn's title is via EA Partners and Respawn Entertainment will hold IP rights. Maybe they are going for another Gears of War type deal. Who the fuck knows. But it sure sounds like a megaton.

Is there any particular reason that Kinect 2.0 excites you?

I think now that they have the resources and power to dedicate it to the OS and have a dashboard and ap service built completely around it that we could see some exciting stuff no one is pushing right now.

Respawns makes the most sense and would probably be the most appealing to MS:

"From the creators of Call of Duty....."

Just wanted to ask but wasn't Respawn hiring devs with experience on PS3? Or am I confused?

I'm really looking forward to seeing the UI. I'm expecting great things, hopefully it's a lot more integrated than the current UI with access to marketplace available from the start dash.

Might be timed exclusive or money has since changed hands.

Yup. This was my main line of reasoning. But if EA wanted that IP to be as big as Call of Duty -- the exclusive money-hat would have to be absurd.

Depends, exclusive titles often have more visibility and see more advertising. I suspect any deal is similar to how Mass Effect worked. First game + DLC will be exclusive, with the second game coming to all platforms + timed exclusive DLC on Durango.

But Mass Effect 1 wasn't a huge seller at all even with the marketing. Compared to ME2 and ME3 which sold gangbusters.

It's the long game. It's a good deal for EA in that they get a new IP off the ground with the help of MS and any potential sequels might be as big as ME thanks to this. MS win too in that the franchise is then more closely associated with their console and then there's timed DLC.

It would basically be a rerun of ME, maybe.

Hosted by the one. The only. Don Matrix. This conference better somehow be livestreamed to the UK. We're practically Microsoft's second largest market after America. I'm not sure whether I can take the hype of all this. Daft Punk's new album and Microsoft's Xbox reveal on the same day. Hold me GAF.

Only because all of europe buy their games from amazon.co.uk and play.com :P

Sony is not going to shrink their entertainment offerings if anything they are going to get bigger.

This new wave of juniors seem like they are going to drop like flies.

Unless you're talking strictly in the PS4/Vita/game machine sense, this is objectively false. I won't derail the thread any more though.

Hmm... Maybe. Less than a month until we find out, I hope either MS or Sony brings GTA V to next gen.

Not that I know of.

I don't follow First Person Shooters though. Unless they are on the PC, I get motion sickness.

Huh, I was so sure it had been rumoured. Maybe it was a different title.

You're crazy if you think the PS4 won't double as an entertainment hub.

Indeed. Whoever brings GTA5 next gen (or offers BC) will probably see a substantial boost.

Still the current rumor ( http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=535359 ).

Watch Dogs and Assassins Creed 4 are also rumored to be always online for all platforms, and Destiny is confirmed always online.

Thank you, thought I was going crazy.

If the next Xbox has BC I'll buy it as soon as I can the last 360 game I played was Gears 2 :(

Certain games always online makes sense for....

A always online "required" console is unnecessary.

You can't play an MMO offline, so it makes sense.
Fighting games (played locally) it does not
Platformers it does not
Finally Fantasy (which isn't an mmo) doesn't make sense.

At least on the PS4 I can play Diablo 3 offline. Diablo 3 should never have required online. It's games like that which make me realize how bad this is for the consumer.

Sure. But that line of reasoning defeats itself. Timed exclusively creates de facto exclusivity. I think it's hard for a game to truly recover from being relegated to a single platform from its inception. I think ME3 did 4:1 (Xbox; PS3). Respawn is independent -- the stability of MSFT would help, but it's a definite trade-off. It's why I was certain Destiny would be on as many platforms as possible.

I can understand why BF4, Watch_Dogs, and Destiny would be always online, but AC4 doesn't immediately make a lot of sense unless they're doing something different from past AC games.

I hope they are doing something different for the next one. There's a lot of cool things they could do if the game was always online. Easy ability to co-op would be the obvious choice, but I wish that you could randomly come across players as you're sailing in the ocean and can have PvP battles, and then go leave and go do missions with friends you could meet in the battle or something all without leaving the game and having to switch through menus. I hope developers can start doing more things like that because I think that would be really cool.

It sounds like you're describing any mmorpg...

Prior to the announcement we got the COD:Ghosts and "Upcoming Halo" leak on Tesco.com - You think MS already sent out assets to retail or just coincidence? I mean, both games are likely to be shown on this event.

No.

Ghosts will have a separate announce. It was spotted in an ad for the week of May 5th so it'll be announced by then.

The bottom of the Xbox site has a time line of Xbox games and hardware similar to what Sony was doing before the PS4. Hope we get some videos eventually.

Some of the Games they mention: Halo, PGR1, Splinter Cell, KotOR, COD,PGR2, Fable, Halo 2, Forza 2, COD 2, Oblivion, Gears, Forza 2, Bioshock, Halo 3, Assassins Creed, Mass Effect, GTA IV, and some sequels.

EA wasn't involved with the first Mass Effect at the time. I get what you're getting at though.

On a second thought: what if MS decides to tease/unveil games in the next weeks, that will be shown during the event?

sure.

they've been so opened and in a rush to make the bad taste of the crazy leaks go away.

MS is consolidating too fast, and too much.
and not because they have great products/ideas, but because they're in panic mode.

How do you come to that conclusion? They would've shown the thing off already if that were the case.

What does this even mean ?

Way to win the argument by giving a valid point there...

Both Microsoft and Sony are going to continue to offer more entertainment for their users.

If anything MS seem to be confident enough in their product that they have followed their planned timeline despite all the Internet rage.

This has been repeated so much you'd think it would be common knowledge, apparently not.

sure.

If they were in panic mode they would've made a move to announce the console as fast after the PS4 reveal as they could... they clearly didn't.

Microsoft isn't consolidating too fast, if anything they need to keep the pace or go faster. Right now ecosystem is the most important part of adopting a platform and anyone being slow at consolidating their ecosystems are going to be left behind.\

Consolidating isn't a sign of panic it's a sign of the times.

Lol.

MS has 0 panic mode. This was all planned last year. No way they would reveal early to to "please" some rabit fanboys.

I am really enjoying these last few months.... the rage is incredible. So funny.
