MICROSOFT... HYPE THREAD... NEOGAF...

Is such a thing even possible?

I'm hyped. But I'd be super fucking hyped if rumors were saying it's a 3 TFLOP, or more, beast. The rumors have really soured the next Xbox for me and they might not even be true! Or they might have changed. MS can't have an online only console that blocks used games...AND it's weaker than PS4. They could do the former, but give me a console with a damn 7990 in it and I'd buy it. Too many negatives in the rumors for me. I hope I'm blown away though. I've gamed more on Xbox this gen and half of last gen.

I don't have many (~20k), but it would still be nice to keep them just for legacy purposes. I have some from the first day the 360 was out.

Achievements and stuff is bound to your XBL account which will be also used for Durango.

What about the Games on Demand bought? Since there's going to be a 360 SoC, what do you think will happen? Will I be able to download them on the Nextbox? It would be fantastic!
I would think you would have to right? I think those and xbla games will carry over no problem.

how was the hype on gaf about the 360 reveal, after microsoft trashed the first xbox?(really asking, I dunno)

I think history may repeat.

Why so much negativity in this thread. This conference will blow PS4 announcement out of the water. After all Major Nelson said PS4 wasn't good, he gave it 6/10 and said is that all? an its boring. So of course this conference will be amazing or at least better than PS4's :)

This is a horribly disingenuous and borderline facetious post.

Not surprising, but the question is, why did you even feel the need?

The more I think of it the more I believe there won't be much games shown in this May 21st reveal. First of all, it's only one hour - if they have multiple speakers coming on stage they're going to spend time introducing the speaker, have their intro speech, etc. Sony's 2 hours seemed to drag near the end though. 90 minutes would be perfect...
I watched 360's reveal on Youtube last night and it was underwhelming, to say the least...the show didn't seem to have a consistent focus. Maybe MS will be better this time around.

I think there will be very little in-game footage but mostly teaser-trailer to get us pumped for E3 conference.

Maybe. Even if you think that... Convincing the masses on NeoGAF would be a feat in itself due to all the negative backlash. Should be fun.

Not sure its important for most of GAF to be convinced.

The goal posts will move anyway regardless of the outcome.

GAF hates the WiiU. Hasn't stopped me from buying and enjoying one.

Is it too crazy to think that the first 30 minutes will be about the console, OS and Kinect 2.0 and the rest of the time will be about games? they can have a live demo and announce 3-4 games (PGR5, Alan Wake 2 & Dark Souls 2 exclusive next gen version) via trailers that way.

I hope the online requirement and no used games rumors at least get an official response from MS, either in the event itself or in an interview afterwards...hopefully we'll have a clear answer about these.

The hardcore fanboys of Microsoft are in such an aggressive mindset that the thread isn't even fun to read let alone participate in. The Sony thread was a joyous occasion with hilarious gif images being made in quick succession with everyone trying to out do each other. It was fun to be a part of.

This thread is a lot of super defensive fanboys attacking strawmen with such an aggressive undertone to it that it doesn't even appear like a fun starting point.

Perhaps it'll clear up at some point and we can all have fun again. The persecution complex is disappointing and creates and environment where changing the tone to fun and hype isn't an easy task and most people like myself just don't even want to bother.

It's a shame.

It's interesting seeing how Xbox fans react to the same treatment they dished out to Sony fans for a large part of this gen? I guess it's also thanks in part to MS, they've let rumours fester and PS4, unless you are a fanboy idiot, looks amazingly strong in terms of hardware. If MS can do better, then great... if they can't then who cares... we still have PS4. As a community we can't lose at this point... unless you care about the colour of the logo on the box more than what the box does? In which case, bicker away!

I absolutely agree that this should be a fun time for all of us...

This could very well be the last generation of consoles as we know them.... stop bitching and just enjoy the ride.... it could be the last chance we get.

I doesn't even really matter who is better or why, as long as we end up with good games.

Just buy the best console for you and your needs and enjoy it?

I know.... radical.

I think so too. The teaser better show more than one exclusive to get the hardcore fans hyped. Hoping for at least one game from a series that hasn't been touched in a while...

I think overall it doesn't require much for most hardcore fans to be excited. If they can show a short glimpse of PGR5 (similar to Drive Club short teaser - literally 20 seconds), Alan Wake 2 with beast character models/environment and lighting, Nextbox's Master Chief model in 1080p, and maybe a glimpse of Black Tusk Studio's space shooter and most of us will be jumping around with joy.

I think the Xbox I'd going to be more powerful than the ps4, why else would they wait so long to reveal?

I just want a similar controller but lighter, Bluetooth, rechargeable and a better road.

Oh and free online play this time.

I'm not too worried about the games, I know they'll come at least early on.

Kinect 2.0 specs have already been leaked, colour resolution has been significantly improved (480p to 1080p), but latency is still too high at 60ms.

Yeah I know the specs. Should have specified I meant in regards to games and whether it offers something that can truly improve/offer something innovative to the gaming experience. One that actually works I mean.

AM at a Big meeting with my company where Microsoft are big partner of us for delivering some IT solutions and other things. One of those things we have in house is Kinect. There are some incredible stuff coming related Kinect. Future stuff. I mean the first Kinect that we have does some amazing stuff. Imagine Kinect 2. Am really looking forward to it now.

I only need one reason for Kinect 2.

Dance Central 4.

Bring it.

I want the goddam specs.
Show a game or 3 ~ 4 for the gamers.
Then please the casuals.

Then drop the f-bomb with Always online but can play games offline when you have disk.
:p

How the conference is going to go:

Firstly, it is not going to be a press conference.

MS are going to structure this as an 'inside look' at the Xbox campus... there will be short segments with key team members who'll explain various aspects of the vision.

It will have a broad focus, just like the first MTV reveal of 360, they will not go into reams of detail on their strategy for the tech (primarily because they don't have the same system power)... this event will be all about celebrating the Xbox brand and its new found place as an entertainment (not just gaming) delivery device.

They will focus on the experiences the new system enables, why it changes the way you consume games and entertainment and demo integration with other devices.

Very few games will be revealed (why bother when the greatest games reveal event in the world will be a few days away?)

They will likely save launch date and price until E3.... save any thoughts of the bigger 'E3 event' type showman ship for E3. This isn't going to be like that.

It's going to be personal and candid - and about vision.

They will show the hardware and it is very unlikely they will mention used games or DRM.

Prepare yourselves... this event isn't aimed at Neogaf, so your console launch wet dreams should be put to one side... for now.

I can't wait for Ballmer to come up on stage and announce a new formidable alliance with a global company :

That was Greenberg and I think he's wrong. Sony's event was to discuss the philosophy behind the new hardware, tease some games, announce some exclusive partnerships, and to detail some features. That was their goal and they succeeded in doing that. The PS4 event was a teaser. People keep on forgetting that Polyphony, Santa Monica, and Naughty Dog (among others) were nowhere to be seen. Not to mention that we haven't seen extended gameplay of any PS4 game or even the console itself. So as a teaser, which is what it was designed to be, it succeeded.

I bet it's called Xbox Vision.
(Not from your post, just that it would be a perfect fit, with the focus on Kinect 2.0 as well as using it to watch many different forms of entertainment on TV, not just games)

Well I for one am keeping an open mind until I see the announcement. If they so much as say the words "always online" though, that would be a complete non-starter and would pretty much guarantee my purchase of a PS4. As far as everything else though, I've been very happy with my 360 so I'm willing to see what they have to say.

I think that considering how low the hype in here is for Durango, they will probably have a fantastic show even if it is objectively average.

Many misunderstand the always online. Believe it or not, my company mentioned always online right now. But it's not like what people think. Don't know about Microsoft thou ;) Just be patient.

That has me worried because I can imagine a scenario where the next Xbox is NOT anti-used games and NOT always online and Microsoft ends up getting praised for it. Instead, they should be shitted on for even considering it.

You could look at it that way. Or perhaps it's because he works for Microsoft and would say that to keep hype building for their own reveal.

I'm not expecting too much game wise from the May 21st event. I think as MS have said themselves, that will be saved for E3, but I do expect them to show off the console, Kinect 2.0 and dispel some of the more questionable rumours that have been making the rounds.

I'll be happy just to see Alan Wake 2 and whatever this game from Black Tusk Studios is - as I have a feeling it's going to look very impressive.

This is a horribly disingenuous and borderline facetious post.

Not surprising, but the question is, why did you even feel the need?

I'm not sure whose sarcasm meters are broken. You guys's or mine.

I hope they call it Xbox Infinity for the simple reason that it makes me giddy about what they'll name the NEXT one.

"Xbox Infinity.. um... +1"

It'll be interesting to see how they position and promote the console. Is it even ABOUT games this time? Are games going to be merely an equal presence with the media and online functions?

Looking forward to the presentation, and what E3 brings in this year.

Sounds like 15mins should be enough for them if 80% of next xbox things won't show up at May 21

If this scenario would come through, how can you shit on them for maybe considering something that officially never has been spoken by the company?

This will always happen, because being surprised is more cognitively significant than getting what you expect. I know it's lame to bring up 'the other guys', but look at the amount of praise that Sony are getting for making a developer and consumer friendly box for the first time since PS1—this stuff should be standard by now, Nintendo and Microsoft have been doing it for years—but because it's not what people expected, it's praised.

You know thats on 21st there won't be games will be probably just a couple of 1st party teasers, just hardware and system and "the future", right?

They said it already:
http://majornelson.com/2013/04/24/xboxreveal/
On that day, we’ll share our vision for Xbox, and give you a real taste of the future. Then, 19-days later at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, we’ll continue the conversation and showcase our full lineup of blockbuster games.

http://www.polygon.com/2013/4/24/42...ne-up-of-next-gen-xbox-games-at-e3-on-june-10
In an email sent to Polygon from Microsoft's representatives, it was confirmed that in addition the reveal of the next Xbox on May 21 in Redmond, WA, Microsoft's E3 briefing this year at the Galen Center in Los Angeles on June 10 will "continue the conversation and showcase" the new console's software line-up.

If this scenario would come through, how can you shit on them for maybe considering something that never official has been spoken by the company?
This. It is like people are latching on to rumors as if they were officially from microsoft...but only to the bad rumors ;)

Sony is primarily being praised because GAF is a hardcore gaming community and Sony seems to be focused on games more than their competitors. This has especially been true the past two or three years. So they've got software momentum. The fact that the PS4 is easier to develop for considering the PS3 was a nightmare to develop for only aids those types of sentiments.

If this scenario would come through, how can you shit on them for maybe considering something that officially never has been spoken by the company?

They've definitely at least considered it. Developers said that the dev kits are always online, but that could change. They didn't have to admit it--they were essentially told on.
