And kotaku article is also up, skimming it I see nothing new.

"That it requires an "always-online" internet connection. This one's strange. We've heard from some sources that the console will definitely need to be online to start playing games. Others have said this isn't the case. Some are even suggesting that it's the console's entertainment and TV capabilities that will need this, not your games. Because of this confusion, it goes in the maybe pile."

Well this rumor just become very wired now

I'm so sick of this opinion. As been stated multiple time by many many people. 3 months is not enough time to redesign a console. MS's main competitors are google and apple with a 'side' of Sony. MS isn't scrambling off of a very general press conference held by Sony. It's illogical to jump to that conclusion.

They don't have to redesign their hardware to change their approach for certain things.

I also think its funny how he keeps trying to defend his statement that they were going to announce on the 24th and pushed it back. Doesn't it seem a little odd that they just so happen to push it back and announce the reveal date on the 24th? I'm pretty sure that sending out invites and making it public on the 24th was always the intention, not to actually reveal it.

Yeah, that does make more sense.

I will never believe this rumor. There are just far too many people without internet or reliable internet for Microsoft to just cast them aside and say later guys. I still believe that it only applies to the dev kits as well as the mandatory kinect idea.

With pretty much everything about the Durango, a lot seems to be getting lost from insider to insider so it leads to more misinformation and insiders claiming to know things when in fact they don't shit.

With that said, bring on the 21st of May!

I think it makes perfect sense... if you don't have internet you are not going to be paying for Xbox Live, buying DLC or other services and will very likely be a customer that isn't very profitable.

If you don't have broadband then you probably aren't that interested in a $399 console anyway.

I don't LIKE this strategy, but it does make a lot of business / profit sense so can see why you would decide on it.

Nice, I'm excited about the live stream (although I'm a PC-only gamer). Really enjoyed the PS4 live stream, I'm curious if Microsoft can top that.

Great time for a live stream, 19:00 pm for us Europeans^^

Suck it, Ballmer gif haters

I'll be honest... I'm just not hyped/excited for this! And I don't even mind the always-online thing!

MS really needs to bring something truly new and unique that captures my imagination to make my head turn away from the PS4. I already use my PS3 as my media center and game system. And it looks to continue that path with PS4.

I will wait and see... I hope they bring something interesting. If they unveil Halo/Gears/Forza combo... I'm not even going to bother following the rest of the 720 news.

What about the PS4 captured your imagination and what would the next Xbox equivalent be?

Honestly... the PS4 didn't really capture my imagination but it seems to delivering on all the fronts I care about when it comes to a home console. It has the games and it likely has the multimedia capabilities I'm interested in (and likely NOT behind a paywall, if it is... F*** PS4). And I'm just not interested in MS first party content... at least when it comes to Halo/Gears/Forza.

If MS shows off a bunch of new interesting IPs, and new and interesting OS/multimedia features... I'll be interested.

So basically, you are a Sony fan and prefer Sony games on a Sony console? It would of been easier for you to just say.... "I prefer the games that are made for the Sony console and that is why I am eyeing the PS4 more because it is my preference for the type of games I like".

Not really fanboyish, but like you, I am the opposite where I prefer the IP's on the MS console and stuff like Forza for me is so much better than what the Sony camp offers for racing games. Again, just preference, like you. But to come out and say it like the PS4 had some magical spell over you, it would of been much more digestive for you to just say you prefer Sony IP's and leave it at that.

question is what the profit will be when people start boycotting the console because it's always on?

So next gen will come down to games basically. Doesn't it always though? I think the PS4 will show its power further down the line than the next Xbox but thats just a prediction. Thats all we can do for now. I don't see any MS exclusives that will blow me away except KI3 if that even gets announced.

Hard to see exclusives we don't know about :-p

So they're basically gonna have three buttons that are called

The naming just seems off.
The naming is in line with what you would expect from a television or DVR remote.

More evidence that nextbox might resemble a cable box/TV-tuner/DVR more than a traditional gaming console?

Sorry this is going to seem like a rant.... but...

Why the fuck do people think they had time to change the specs? Do you even comprehend how long ago confirmed orders would have needed to be in to make components to assemble hundreds of thousands of consoles for launch? Not just the silicon, but everything that goes with it.... they don't just call up wallmart.

Do you live in the real world?

If there is a 'change' to the spec it will have been made a while ago and only just communicated.

If they tried to re-engineer something so complex the launch would be pushed back... the absolutely did not and do not have time to make significant change to the hardware after February 21st and still be out in November.

Stop pretending something can happen just because you wish they had specs to match sony.... if they do it will be because they planned it for a while... as recently as Feb Edge was saying it is less powerful.

That might not actually matter one bit once we see them both in action.

This assumes the leaked specs were 1) correct and 2) up-to-date at the time they were leaked.

Ninjafusion are you ok? post if your still there lol

It's a fascinating world to follow, isn't it?

What other industry would give us surprise launches, backstabbing during press conferences, Ravi Drums, Giant Enemy Crabs or "one million troops"?
wait what press conference had a backstabbing?

I'm not saying that you're wrong but didn't Sega change the Saturn to dual CPUs shortly after PS1 was announced because Sony had better specs?
Don't know how close to launch it was though.

say whatever you want, but I'll be playing Halo 5 this December, on my Xbox Delta, dual GPU, 12GB DDR4 wifi through the Xbox mini in my bedroom while you'll be in the GT5 vs Forza 3 thread.

Indeed, I guess at the beginning they will focus a bit on games, but later the gen it will more about services than games.

That sounded like a rant from a slightly worried Sony fanboy.

Thurott article getting more pages than this. Is it wrong for me to read into that the new Kotaku article is almost back tracking on what they said earlier about always online.
