Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | April 2013 | Sacrifice your Independent Soul

Every Sony platform pre-Vita was hard to develop for. They just sold so well that developers learned to deal with it.
I don't think the PS1 had that reputation... Not that ease of development was a significant focus for Sony back then, but it didn't have the hardware quirks of the Saturn and N64, making it closer to PCs than either. And simply due to being early/mid 90s tech, it was a less complex device and the average programmer would have an easier time getting a handle on it.

Easier to develop for than Saturn isn't saying much, lol.

Just got the Sony PULSE wireless headset yesterday. Cannot wait to try it with the Vita soon. If my PS3 / phone are anything to judge this by, I think WipeOut 2048 will be eargasmic.

Ya, Sony really only got that reputation with the PS2/PS3

Tell me one game to buy tright now. PSP? PSone? Lumines? I got Persona 4 already.

I dont what your into but Mortal Kombat is great with a ton of content, Jet Set Radio is great, Guacamelee is a worthy buy, Soul sacrafice is next week and seems like it will be getting allot of attention for awhile, and if your into shumps I would suggest Sine Mora, or Big Sky infinity.

I have never actually played FFXII... so a remake or a HD port on the Vita would be fine by me too :D

(and to add insult to injury, have it include Revenant Wings)

Never played it. You really owe it to yourself to play it. The story is wonderful and most of the character are exceptional. Most people say its too MMO but I think it worked perfect and the gambits work so well for the combat and the hunts and sidequest are loads of fun and challenging,

sold my PS2 :/ was thinking of buying the FFXII when SE finally decides to do a HD port or something...

How many times have we read this sentiment? Nearly everyone that buys one immediately realises what they've been missing. Good on ya!

On that note, I bought EDF2017 Portable last night. I have no idea why it took me so long to buy it.

Yep, Sony could even offer a money back guarantee. It's an amazing piece of tech.

I think you're the first person I've ever heard that praised the plot/characters. I thought the story was trite and the only character I developed any sort of affinity for was Fran. (Not sure which is worse in terms of story/characters -- X or XII, honestly.)

The MMO part was an interesting spin though and I can see why people liked that, though some of the obtuse random stuff in that game to get certain weapons and such was just flat out ridiculous (zodiac spear, for example).

I'd probably give an HD version another spin because I kind of enjoyed the combat system, but it's nothing I'm clamoring for.

Still waiting for DMC HD Collection Vita and ZOE HD.
:(

Seeing your avatar mixed with that post just makes me want the DS's MMZ Collection on Vita...or a port of MMX Collection that was on PS2/GC...or even just MMX4 as a PSone Classic...sigh...

Beyond Persona 4 Golden, I personally don't think I'll ever be able to delete any of these from my Vita (in alphabetical order):

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift EXTEND
DEAD OR ALIVE 5 PLUS
DJMAX TECHNIKA TUNE
Guilty Gear XX Λ Core Plus R
ULTIMATE MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 3

Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (PSP)
DISSIDIA 012[duodecim] FINAL FANTASY (PSP)
DJMAX Portable 3 (PSP)
Final Fantasy Tactics (PSone) / Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (PSP)
Mega Man Maverick Hunter X (PSP)
Metal Slug Anthology (PSP)
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PSP)
Shock Troopers (PSP)
TACTICS OGRE: Let Us Cling Together (PSP)
Ys: The Oath in Felghana (PSP)

Anything else I own is fair game when I need space.

If you want to import something, listen to Grimmy. <3

This is what it says on the website:

Sony replied and I got my $20 :D now I'm just waiting for SS to be released!

not sure how many of you would support this
but Ambient Studios behind this really nice-looking Death Inc is closing...
not sure if Death Inc will still be published (seems like it won't)

but it would be nice if Sony can come in at this moment to PubFund them or something
http://www.deathincgame.com/

hope you guys can tweet them and the Sony team (@shahidkamal, @nsutter, @ShaneWatch) and get their attention directed to Death Inc

and welcome to VitaGAF Coheno :D

Yeah I also supported it. It would be perfect for the vita, so hoping for that stretch goal.

Also I just bought a Vita for all them Indies, so finally a part of VitaGAF!

On a sidenote, who is this Toto and why is everyone in this tread obsessed with him?

he was very active in the vita threads, with his posts being filled to the brim with hyperbole/negativity. now, that's not to say he was all negative. he had some favourite games that he would promote a lot. his complaints about soul sacrifice ground textures, tearaway's "n64" graphics, and persona 3 portable being a piece of shit were the most memorable. some people found the ridiculousness of his "opinion" to be charming, while others were obviously annoyed by him.

the thread just feels different without him :(
he had his annoying parts... but in general, I think he added value to the thread

I love and miss his constant negativity regarding P3P. He's so wrong, but I miss seeing it.

Ahh he's that guy! Every forum has one of these. I'm sure he'll be back guys.

Anywho, are there any cool Vita Metroidvania style games? I can't seem to think of any, other than the new Batman 2.5D game.

Get Guacamelee, thank me later.

edit: beaten.

Ahh yeah, can't believe I forgot that one. Definitely getting that! There are too many games I need to catch up on now.

Wasn't there also something about Gravity Rush download coming with free DLC that the physical copy doesn't (EU)?

If I remember correctly the download version included some DLC when you bought it in the first two weeks of the release. It's the way Sony usually handles pre-order bonuses with download versions.

now hoping for Death Inc :/

Seems like that is too late though, they're packing up and closing. Don't see what Sony can do, unless they fund the whole studio? That would most likely take a lot of cash.

Edit: ahh it was only the first few weeks. Ohh well, I'll probably still download it. Thanks.

Ambient's first project was actually a Vita game for Sony that got canceled, so they've probably already pitched Death Inc. to Sony. And Pub Fund wouldn't help them unfortunately - it's a SCEA program for starters, and it doesn't actually fund development, rather it gives devs an advance on their royalties once the game is finished and has passed certification.

Just finished Thomas Was Alone. Really, really great little game. Loved the music. These indie games play so much better on Vita than on a laptop or home console.

PS+ continues being amazing.

I'm enjoying Thomas was alone too. Got it free with PS+. It starts of rather slowly but from chapter 3 or 4 onwards, it becomes fun, if a tad easy (i'm at chapter 7). Contrary to most (reviews), i don't feel that the story is that special though. It's nicely done and voiced, but i doesn't stand out for me. Other than that, the visuals are quite nice with good looking minimal design and colors. But above all, it's relaxing and fun puzzling/platforming.
