Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | April 2013 | Sacrifice your Independent Soul

Can I use my PSPgo to install Linux? When plugged via USB it just shows up as a 16GB drive.

That would probably depend on whether it needed some special drivers to recognize it, but I wouldn't try it, that's just asking for errors.

You only need a 4GB USB.

There's not really much grinding in Project Diva f. Apparently you only need 1.2mil to get all the trophies and I've earned just under 1mil running through all the songs once on Normal and Hard. Just started Extreme.

My only real gripes with the game:
1) Imprecise touch controls in a rhythm game :/
2) DLC Cost. It's crazy expensive, even if I bought the game at full price.

According to the website, the game was 7300 yen ($75) retail. The PS3 ver DLC is 278HK, or roughly $36. Almost half the cost of the full cost of the game.
The DLC only has 6 songs (and modules/items). The game has -32- songs. Less than a fifth! Even at $20 it would be steep :x
(Also that's using the original cost. On the HK store a download of Project Diva f would be 419HK, or roughly $54. So it's more than half the cost of the full game for less than a fifth expansion).

I kind of wish I could disable it showing a counter because I get so nervous halfway in that I'm going to ruin my Perfect that I choke..All Cool/Fines 1 Safe every time

You really should join us in the Project DIVA thread! It's so hard to keep track of discussion about individual games here. You never replied to me trying to figure out the timing issues you had with DIVA F either =/

And yeah, the challenge items in the game are silly. I pretty much had enough DP to buy one of everything in the store after literally two songs. I still think Survival S should be worth more than it is, or the items should be allowed to stack to provide a better challenge.

I don't have any issue with the touch controls - it's as accurate as the turntable in beatmania, or at least it would be if it didn't have its judgement windows modified to make it possible to just repeatedly swipe as fast as you can to BS your way through a scratch segment. It's a -lot- better than having to use the analog sticks on F too - now -that- is something not very well thought out.

On DLC cost - this is actually significantly less expensive than the DLC cost for Project DIVA 2nd, where everything that wasn't the IDOLM@STER stuff was basically a la carte; you paid 400 yen for a song or 300 yen for a module. The DLC pack that includes all the new-for-PS3 content has 6 songs and 18 modules - that would have been 7800 yen under the old pricing, and they're only asking for 3000 (and if you bought the PS3 game, they only ask for 1500).

Waiting for the Vita complete edition.

Whoops! Maybe it was my monitor instead, but to my frustration no matter how much I adjusted it in the settings I could never seem to get it right myself. Having it pre-set is a godsend for me. Though could never get over the feeling of a tiny delay between when I press the button and when I heard the in-game clang.

Touch controls are terrible for me though. I switched them over to the back touch pad and either way I have to contort my hand positions to do them (which screws me in songs that rapidly switch from stars back to normal notes), and I can't even count the amount of times that I've missed Star Notes due to either sliding my finger against the bottom of the Vita (where the sticker is)..
Or, more frustratingly, the game registering me placing my finger on the touch screen as a slide, and then not registering me sliding my finger afterwards. Augh! I took the fact that you can't get anything less than a fine as their admittance of the controls being imprecise.

I never had trouble with the analogs on PS3, but I am left scratching my head as to why they didn't just use L/R instead. Or issue a patch for the Vita version with analog controls. Heck, even if they locked it off in the DLC, it would add more value!
I suppose it is a bargain by comparison, but it's expensive DLC vs. obscenely expensive DLC..1500 for the songs and 1500 for the modules would have been great, I don't really care for modules as much.

@Above: I was hoping for the same thing a few months ago, but honestly you'd probably be paying more for a complete edition than buying the game now at it's lower cost and the DLC separately.

Waiting for the Vita complete edition.

Probably won't happen. Project DIVA 2nd was the last game they provided a good amount of DLC for and that game's re-release didn't include it; they actually just went ahead and made a third game (extend) instead. We don't know how it'll go this gen since the DLC system is a lot better now than it was before and there was no tsunami/credit card hack that crippled PSN for months on end at the same time they were trying to offer said DLC like last time.

Doesn't hurt to wait. Even if there isn't a special edition in the future, gonna wait for the eventual "The Best" version. For the PS3.

Having just finished Bioshock Infinite, I'm wondering how a Bioshock Vita would have worked if it ever happened. It probably wouldn't be something you could just play for a quick minute on the bus, haha.

Also, touchscreen vigors would have happened I guess.

Dunno why I'm even thinking about it. 2K gonna 2K. :(

I dunno. I'm not exactly sure how USB booting works, and how an emulated mass storage device like that would handle it. It it's easier for you, Ubuntu also has DVD images that can be burned and used to install from.

Else, for some on topic Vita content - I'm really enjoying the browser video streaming. The Vita has quickly supplanted my phone as my Giant Bomb video viewer.

Jeff Gerstmann bought one and was messing around with it yesterday on a stream. Check it out.

Awesome, I'll check it out.

His business is going to take a huge dive once Sony releases a revision with TV out.

Which I doubt will happen any time soon, if ever. That'd be great if they made an HDMI out version, though. Vita would be awesome for the Elgato device, just hope there isn't HDCP just like PS3.

Even if that happens, don't these kits have more options than straight-up TV out? I remember Jeff upping the resolution and it looking -really- good (albeit jittery until he lowered it again).

Are there actually any good indies out for Vita that would actually have a compelling narrative, or are most of these games sort of game-play driven 'retro-style' indies?

Do they let you pick a color? I imagine it would be much easier to stomach if you'd get a blue/red one, since you'd have to import one of those either way.

Depends on what you consider compelling I guess, allot of people are raving about Thomas was alone( i have not played it yet) because of the narration, Machinarium is great in my opinion, but its point and clink so dunno if thats your style.

^^ The latest release, Thomas Was Alone seems to be really great as far as narrative goes apparently.

Yep, Thomas Was Alone has a really surprisingly good narrative.

PSNStores is trying to raise funds to get one too.
I'm going to donate since Kass and Co. are good people and these obscure PSM games should be documented somehow.

yeah i saw that, gave them a retweet. I'd love to donate them some money but between Vita and PS4 savings i don't have a lot of money spare - i only earn ~£60 a week

Alright, might as well ask here. I just bought a 2nd Vita to replace my 1st Vita that has a broken battery.

Here's a bit of a background story: first of all, I live in a country where, even though Sony has official stores or whatever here, none of them specializing in Vita and thus refused to have anything to do with it. Unfortunate, but understandable, considering that maybe 80-90% of people playing Video Games here playing it with pirated products. So, even though my Vita is original as is its games, should anything happens to it I can't count on Sony to help me.

Anyways, I bought my 1st Vita 2nd hand, and the person that sold it to me bought it 2nd hand as well, so you might call my 1st Vita as a 3rd hand product, I guess. Anyway, on one unfortunate occasion I put my 1st Vita on sleep mode and then forgot about it for like, 2 or 3 days.

By the time I remembered that I haven't turned it off but put it in a sleep mode instead, of course the battery has been drained. Then, my 1st Vita refused to be turned on again, and this lasted for a couple of weeks. Then, all of a sudden I managed to turned it on, but the battery just refused to be charged. So I could only turn it on for what, half an hour, before it got off again. And now it won't turn on again. I consider it to be dead already at this point.

Hence, my 2nd Vita.

Now, due to what happened to my 1st Vita I am admittedly a bit paranoid with my 2nd Vita here, as I do not have a disposable income to buy a 3rd Vita and like I said, Sony wouldn't help me despite my support. And thus I ask: what are the things that can potentially damage Vita's battery? IS it safe to play Vita while it's charging? What other things that I should know in order to avoid the same thing that happened on my 1st Vita happening again with my 2nd Vita?

Thanks.

"Sony" is a whole bunch of different companies, only one of which deals with PlayStation devices. You probably contacted Sony consumer electronics, but the company you want is Sony Computer Entertainment.

I do it all the time. The only way that might damage your battery is if it's poorly plugged in, so the charge keeps going on and off.

I've done that loads of times, should just take a little bit extra to charge it - you are sure your cables were fine - I honestly don't know why that would have happened, makes sense that something got loose or it was a dud battery. Anyway, batteries SEEM easy to replace if that is the case (remember that picture I posted for you yesterday with the vita opened up?) - so hopefully you won't ever need a third. But that sucks sony won't support it. Anyway, welcome back and good luck!

Hmm, yes, well, the Sony that is here just don't want to deal with Vita. Like I said, massive piracy. The same with Nintendo. Microsoft still helps though.

I don't know ;______________; Maybe the fact that it was a 3rd hand product had something to do with it.

So, the general consensus is that it's okay to play while it's being charged? Because various people like in various places like, say, Gamefaqs, said various stuff: some people said it's okay, some said it's not. I am a bit paranoid here, hahaha.

3 hours into P4G. Should I be concerned about fusing right now?

Fusing is a much faster way to get more powerful persona than leveling up existing ones, so really you want to dive in as soon as possible.

My advice though is to not fuse a persona until it has learned all its skills and then you've registered it in the compendium. As long as you have a persona registered its easy to get them back, you don't have to recatch them or anything like that.

Say, one more question while I am at it.

Does Vita PSN download support resume download? Like the "Download Later" feature from Nintendo's e-shop? Say I download stuff, got to 50%, disconnect from PSN, return 1 or 2 days later, and resume download the same stuff rom the 50% point?
