Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | April 2013 | Sacrifice your Independent Soul

Say, one more question while I am at it.

Does Vita PSN download support resume download? Like the "Download Later" feature from Nintendo's e-shop? Say I download stuff, got to 50%, disconnect from PSN, return 1 or 2 days later, and resume download the same stuff rom the 50% point?

Yes, downloads are resumable, no problem.

Ahh, fantastic :)

Well, not sure how many games I can download with just a 8 GB memory card though. I mean, the availability of an account system is fantastic--unlike Nintendo's stupid tied-to-system policy--so yeah, I want to download stuff here and there but the bloody memory card is so bloody expensive, sigh.

man, i'm starting to regret overlooking the psp the way I did, Im pretty surprised by how much im enjoying Patapon 3. Anyone have any recommendations for other quirky psp games on psn? I noticed the Locoroco games seem to be well reguarded, or maybe Cladun, or ZHP? It appears I missed out on some pretty cool stuff.

Also it really bothers me that the Phantasy Star Portable games, and even more Star Ocean games are not on PSN. I miss Tri Ace.

Way too many games, off the top of my head (I'm not gonna list your typical games like tactics ogre, ff, etc.):
- Loco Roco
- Both Syphon Filter games
- Gurumin
- Gladiator Begins
- No Heroes Allowed
- Ultimate Ghost n Goblins
- Can I really be the hero?
- Popolocrois
- Kenka Bancho
- Killzone Liberation
- Wild Arms XF
- Jeanne D'arc
- Valkyria Chronicles II

And a long, long etc.

NO HEROES ALLOWED!

Overlooked gem. Its a PSP game, but the graphics look pixel perfect on Vita and it might as well be a native resolution game. Its a dungeon environment simulator basically. You set up monsters in the dungeon by providing nutrients and balancing a monster food chain to make sure the best and strongest monsters survive to fight the intruders. Very original and highly recommendable.

Impressions:
Man. Where WDIDTDTDTDML 1 fails in motivating the player, these 2 follow up games start getting "gamey". They added some other elements that made it even more strategic (like under water creatures, more heroes, more hero abilities etc.) and one notable change is that your monsters now effectively change depending on how they are dying. If your monsters die from starvation, their "race" will adapt and get slightly different stats than when they die from being defeated by heroes for example. That is a really neat mechanic. Other improvements include a Badman room mode that allows to play around without time pressure and a proper "story mode" where you have challenges on a world map, which his definitely gives a better feeling of accomplishment than just a single row of challenges. The first game is definitely still worth it, but most players are probably fine with just buying No Heroes Allowed, since it has more content and is just the overall better balanced game. It even includes lower difficulty settings, which is very welcoming for new players. Other small improvements should be mentioned here too, like finally being able to see which monsters carry nutrients and a screenshot mode (!!!) (you know, the thing the Vita cant do on PSP games)

ZHP is grinding madness, but very, very fun as well. If you dont mind grinding to hell and back, the game is definitely worth a look.

Ok, just had some time with SS mp. I must say, unless I just haven't seen this option, I'm quite underwhelmed from the mp for mostly one reason. You can't search matches by map. Someone please tell me I'm blind and it's there in the options somewhere?

No heroes looks pretty cool, will check it out tonight.

How would you compare ZHP to Disgaea is reguards to Grinding? I actually tend to not mind grinding that much as long as it can be enjoyable to do so.

A question yet again:

Is it possible to pay for Playstation Plus membership with funds derived from PSN cards? Or is it strictly credit card only?

The grinding in Disgaea is usually just needed for the extra content (like item worlds and post game content), ZHPs gameplay and story is based around grinding the hell out of the game. And I really enjoyed doing so, the question is just whether you enjoy the gameplay style or not. Its not an SRPG like Disgaea, it plays more like a roguelike in its philosophy and gameplay mechanics. If you like Roguelikes AND SRPGs, you are good to go though. Too bad that its a bit expensive without a sale though.

Are you *kidding* me?!?!? You mean Sony won't donate or pay for Vita conversions to allow video out for websites that would cover more Vita games and news if they had the converted Vitas? What the hell is Sony thinking???

Here's my point. My brother is part of a group that attends gaming conventions and stays at hotels and get free food and drinks all paid for by Sony and I am positive that Sony does similar things for other groups and situations. This level of expenditure is easily several thousands of dollars per event but they can't be fucking bothered to spend half (or even less) of that to give video-out versions of Vitas for free to gaming websites that already (or would) cover the Vita and its games?

I can't believe I'm reading on this thread that individual websites have to buy their own hardware to perform reviews or do similar work. Aren't reviews like free advertising? I mean, even if something gets a negative review then its still a free add for the actual hardware???

Guess I'm not smart enough to be a game company executive as this doesn't make any sense to me.

As long as you have money in the wallet, you're good to go. You can also just purchase a PS+ card.

Ahhh... where I live PSN card is the only alternative, I am afraid. Well, that, and credit card. But I don't use credit cards.

Well, it is good to know that funds from PSN Cards can be used to purchase Playstation Plus membership. Although I don't know... is the value great if I intend to use it strictly for Vita? Hmm.

Maybe the only Vitas they have with HDMI-Out are Devkits which they can't give to reviewers? /shrug

Congrats, you finally understand why so many of us make jokes at SCEA's expense.

$50 a year for PS+ is worth it for Gravity Rush, Wipeout 2048, Uncharted, and Disgaea 3 alone. The discounts and cloud saving are just icing on the cake.

Certainly is, in my opinion. No matter which platform you use, it's worth it for just one. Obviously if you use both it's better... but still well worth it.

Question though, the blog mentions in the video "Last chance to pre order to get the bonus items!", they arent talking about digital pre-orders here right?
Definitely got you and Tamaster mixed up last night ><

How did you mix us up? ._. So random. It must be our totally similar avatars.

I imagine it would be best for me to upgrade to a 32 GB memory card if I want to utilize PS+ for Vita to the fullest. The problem is it costs around 100 US bucks, give or take, to buy it where I live >_____>

Certainly easiest. But you can get by with a 16GB - you'll just have to juggle the free games a lot

I usually think of him as Tama since it's easier to remember haha

It's pretty disheartening when Sony, the first company of the big three to push simultaneous releases of physical and digital games, can't get this right. I should just rephrase and say SCEA, but forget it. Not to mention it is your only big Vita game for the next five months.

Yep you can pause and resume downloads just fine. I find it best to manually do this rather than just leaving the wifi connection area as sometimes you get corrupted data that still installs fine but the game ends up having issues.

I'm not sure about the best practice with the battery but I have played regularly with my Vita charging although I do give it a little headstart if it's totally dead. I also unplug when it has finished charging after getting the prompts with my samsung phone but I don't even know if they are the same battery type or charger type lol. Wonder if Sony has anything to say about it, er like advice.

I'm pretty sure they stayed the same (I assume because they're published by NISA whereas NHA is Sony).
Ah! Weird the publisher changed. Why didnt I get my NHA app then Sony, grrr.

I think I remember reading that Sony had filed a recent trademark for a What did I do to deserve this game, does that have any relation?

Do we know what Nis is working on lately? I was kind of hoping that we would get Disgaea 4 on the Vita since Nis and Sony have always been pretty close. I guess I probably should not get my hopes up though.

Still debating on whether to get Atelier Totori. I'm a fan of these JRPG's: Final Fantasy, SMT, Persona, Dragon Quest, Neir, Golden Sun.

"JRPG's" I don't like: Monster Hunter, Disgaea, Lost Odyssey, Tales of.

Things important to me in an RPG game: story, character, exploration, unique side quests, innovative battle system, action, drama, original art style and graphics.

Things I don't like: slap stick, overt anime tropes, grinding, limited exploration, whiny voice acting.

So, knowing this, would Atelier be a good buy?
