Llamasoft announces new Vita project TxK (based on Tempest 2000)

looking forward to this. Loved tempest 2k, never got into space giraffe - I prefer the more focused arcade style game than the psychedelic direction some of his stuff has.

This has been making me smile like a madman :D Very much looking forward to having it in my hands and much respect for Shahid at Sony for making this happen :)

I see what you did there!

Now, all he needs to do is make it crossplay compatible so I can play it with Move, in 3D, on my TV.

Hope the music is similar to T2K as well. Glad he's moving from the uber-psychadelia of some of his older games... that seems to be what turns people off his stuff (Space Giraffe, anyone?).

So yeah, fucking awesome. Day 1 perch.

You don't already own one for Lumines and Wipeout 2048?

Surprisingly, nope. Bought a house a year ago and put a ton of work into it, so I'm very lacking in money (not to mention I need to hunt for a new job soon and have to save every cent in case I don't score an ideal one...). There's definitely a number of appealing games on Vita, namely Lumines, Wipeout 2048, P4G and of course Ys Celceta.

Just asked Jeff over twitter when this will be released. Hes shooting for this year. I am so stoked I still play T2K a few times a week almost 19 years later.

God, how is it almost 20 years since I played Tempest 2000?

And the original Tempest is now well over 30 years old, headed for 35.

Kind of amazing that he's got so much done in the space of a month.

Yes, it's impressive how quickly development is progressing.

I also noticed that the jumping sound effect is from the classic Pitfall! I wonder if it's just a placeholder, or if it'll make it into the final game.

A few points:
* I hope this has the original music in it somehow
* The crawling animation on the avatar is both creepy and awesome
* I hope the rear touchscreen is used in some way. And not just as an extra button. I could picture maybe launching bombs or missiles or something from the back of the "tunnel".

Edit: HOLY FUCKING SHIT
exploding

tl;dr: Why does it look just like it did almost 20 years ago?

I'm a huge Tempest fan, so this will be a day 1 for me. I played the crap out of it on my Jaguar (one of like 3 good games on that system)...and then again on my PSX, and then on my psp years later through emulator.

That being said.

I much preferred the explosions/sound effects in Tempest X over Tempest 2000 version. I know Tempest X was not a direct product of Minters, but well..ya. I guess he tries to stay retro, but I want to see more stuff different.

Right now, that looks exactly like the same game he made for the Jaguar. Again, I'm not hating, but someone please show me where this is going to better or different than the original? Or is it just meant to be Tempest 2000: Lost Levels?

Makes sense to tap it to jump, pushing your avatar out of the screen.

From his blog post I assume that's just what he's going for. This'll be a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenario for him anyway - somebody will be unhappy either way.

Holy shit, that's goddamn perfect. I think I'd actually prefer that to mine, because you don't need to be accurate with said tapping.

Duration to extend life of jump? Shame there's no gyro otherwise they could probably measure the force of said tap and make you jump wicked high.

Looks awesome. Are you Nyarla of Nyarla labs creator of my favorite iOS game of all time?

If so, thank you for making Forget-me-Not and I'm not surprised you're a Minter fan.

If its not you then just ignore me.
:)

Yep, that's me.. Thanks very much! :O
Glad you like it :)

Forget-me-not is the best iOS game I've played so far. What have you done since? I'll get whatever it is immediately.

Thanks! I haven't released anything new since FMN :( Got a few different game projects on the go but a severe lack of spare time these days... But yeah when I have news about SUPER Forget-Me-Not (or whatever i end up calling it) I'll totally be posting it somewhere on here :)
