Kotaku Rumor: Microsoft 6 months behind in game production for X720 [Pastebin = Ban]

Oh look. People are not buying the always online rumor anymore so a new rumor is here to take its place. Funny how all these insiders are on gaf and not one said a word about this before. It is all bullshit.

Yep. Online required is all but dead, so all of a sudden Microsoft is 6 months behind on a console they've been planning for years, with a plethora of lessons learned from a console generation that's lasted 8 years.

Yeah, sounds solid.

Insomniac still working with Sony, best news of thread.

The rumors regarding Xb3 don't seem that bad this time around. Seem like fairly routine issues at this point in the lifecycle of new hardware. Kinda doubt they'll really miss the holidays but, even if they do, shouldn't be the end of the world if they can make it to stores by Spring.

Breaking news: GAF runs Kotaku!

Might want to take your tin foil hats off, guys. None of these leaks have come from GAF, they've come from established websites.

That's what happens when you close down Fasa and ensemble studios.

Ouch.

God Ensemble was good back in the day, although they made little impact in the console space. I think Sony's long term investment in building and growing their First Parties will pay off next gen. By comparison MS will be left scrambling to snatch up third party exclusives to even the playing field.

One thing I can say is, internally Microsoft was unphased by the Sony event. In fact, it reinforced whatever vision they had. Once again, grains of salt etc.

Because the Next Xbox isn't a Gaming console it's a Multimedia Computer & Sony didn't really show much that would worry them because it's Apple & Google that they are worried about getting in the way of their plans not the PS4 games looking better.

if Sony would have showed the PS4 with GoogleTV made in it that might have made them worry.

You mean the guys behind the decisions to make an unreliable console with no standard storage or WiFi built in?

Those guys?

Yes, those guys that made the console $200 cheaper than the competition, which allowed them to break through the market and in turn facilitated a bigger userbase that allowed for multiple new IPs to debut with Xbox and thus be "attached" to the brand, beating the biggest player in the US market in sales and third party exclusives.

Not to be confused with the guys that are currently making the new Xbox a family DVR waggle machine.

Ooooohhh, so the guys who revitalized the brand to the point of virtually re-launching it and catapulting it the best selling console in the US for the last 2 years plus?

Mind you,its that relaunch that has kept their nose in front of their main competitor worldwide too.

So those numbskulls?

Gotcha.

in comparison to MS ...how many actual 1st party games do people really think will be ready for the PS4 within the first 3 months? 2 possibly 3? Far too often these past years Sony shows us the world only to ask us to wait.

Do you have better sources?

The rumor is about content, different moving parts from the team building the console itself. Which is not to say they have to delay the console itself necessarily. But continue to overreact, if you feel it helps.

Trying to have it both ways, then? MS has been planning for years but up until recently have been "numbskulls"? Why, what could possibly go wrong?!?!

I've finished already The Last Guardian, don't you miss that!

Fighting the good fight as always?

I'm not completely surprised by this.

MS's next-gen box will have a greater focus on non-gaming related features than the PS4 and will likely resemble a cable box/STB/DVR more than a traditional gaming console.

Unlike this gen, MS's and Sony's next-gen boxes won't perfectly overlap with one another. Sony will push for hardcore gamers more than MS, and MS will push for casuals more than Sony.

Well I don't want to downplay how incredibly huge Kinect has been, and that was some seriously genius rebranding they did.

But I don't know how much momentum will carry over to the next Xbox. It would be hard to "resell" the idea of Kinect again, and the idea of a DVR friendly system doesn't sound instantly appealing to me, but we'll see.

We wont know until the actually announce the line up and price, which i doubt is happening at e3.

I don't get how a $500 box is supposed to fight against $100 and cheaper media boxes unless it's a cable company Trojan horse DVR.

You may be 100% right.

But why assume they will continue on the exact same path with a new generation? Surely Microsoft would be aware casuals aren't early adopters.

I'd be shocked if the new Xbox was geared towards them at launch.

They will share 99% of the same games so I think they will overlap just like this gen.

I wouldn't be so confident that those studios will lead to the Durango having a good 2nd or 3rd year. Building large studios up from scratch is a pretty huge feat. Even some of the best efforts (like 343 and Eidos Montreal) can easily turn into an absolute mess.
Well it's more expensive for just bought a studio,so they choose build new studios because it's cheaper, even it's bigger bet than bought a studio

I remember reading reports a while back that Durango was having some big problems with production/manufacturing yields and that those problems were setting their planned launch back by months. I don't know if there was actually anything to those rumors, but its not unfathomable to me that the launch could be delayed. Unlikely, but not unfathomable.

Well the report said they were expect a September launch and i'm not so sure will they launch that early

And i remember they report they fixed the problem or something like few months later

MS isn't reactionary. They tend to do whatever the hell they're set on no matter what the market is doing.

Which is probably why Windows Phone is doing so poorly.

Leave Windows Phone alone, we are 3rd place now and at 5% marketshare!

Seriously though, I am glad they didn't follow the market like Google did and just clone Apple iOS for their mobile. Their misstep with Windows Phone is the relaunch of Windows Phone 8 that is less than stellar. Features that should have been there already after the 3rd iteration are still not in and features that are good were gutted and left in shamble because of the "redo". The problem with Windows Phone is that they are so late to the party and then try to play catch up but they are moving so slow that whatever they do still put them behind competitor. Also chicken and egg things, no marketshare, no apps, no apps no marketshare etc.

Also, temper your expectations for Ryse. The animation system is supposedly janky. It's not a Kinnect title only btw, it has been converted into a full featured AAA game so that is something atleast.
FWIW, I've heard similar things.

Not sure if that is completely true.
People I've worked with and are friends with at MSFT said they were scrambling and stressed afterwards. And when the Orth twitter thing went around, a lot of people that were stressed and in panic mode lost their shit.

Why suddenly so many gaffer have friends working for MS/Sony/Gamestop/3rd party etc

Nintendo, you can take advantage of this, I do not know , but I am sure you can come out several million wiiu's stronger.

Get all the smart people and think of something

* nintendo's offices play the A-team theme song*

i don't buy this rumor. there seemed to be a lot of sure things going on behind the scenes, plus microsoft would have had more time than anyone to build their next-gen console. maybe their internal studios are behind, but microsoft doesn't need to rely on them at launch.

This is what I meant with my first post.

Kotaku brings this up out of nowhere and suddenly "insiders" come out of the woodwork to "confirm" the rumour that they have been sitting on for...what, 3-6 months?

Ugh.

Acquiring 3rd Party exclusives are better than putting out crappy 1st party if the sources are right.

Smart move on their part, better to have higher quality 3rd party than shitty 1st party. I guess we'll see, this is still a rumor and more importantly its kotaku..
