Kotaku Rumor: Microsoft 6 months behind in game production for X720 [Pastebin = Ban]

If the Verge leaked lineup is real, and the Respawn being exclusive is true as well, then that is 5 launch exclusives. That wouldn't really be that bad, Ryse(which going from this thread is now a controller based game)PGR5/Forza, whatever the Zombie game is, and that family game. It's not outstanding, but it's not bad either. I'm sure we'll see stuff from Black Tusk, Turn 10, 343, and Lionhead in the second wave of games.

Why suddenly so many gaffer have friends working for MS/Sony/Gamestop/3rd party etc

Suddenly? Were you here last year during all the rumors and leaks? These guys didn't suddenly come up. They've been here for a long time, and most, if not all are reliable.

This is what I meant with my first post.

Kotaku brings this up out of nowhere and suddenly "insiders" come out of the woodwork to "confirm" the rumour that they have been sitting on for...what, 3-6 months?

Ugh.

So this is a little OT but it looks this is where our insiders are currently residing so does anyone who is working on the PS4 OS and did SOE work on the PS3 OS?

I'm not completely surprised by this.

MS's next-gen box will have a greater focus on non-gaming related features than the PS4 and will likely resemble a cable box/STB/DVR more than a traditional gaming console.

Unlike this gen, MS's and Sony's next-gen boxes won't perfectly overlap with one another. Sony will push for hardcore gamers more than MS, and MS will push for casuals more than Sony.

Why do many people assume that the PS4 will not push for the living room again. Remember "It does everything"? Sony was smart to present it in the unveiling as a gaming device as far as this forum is concerned. But, I fully expect my PS4 to gobble up every app and service it can just like Microsoft.

People need to realize that adding entertainment value to our devices is a must. Do you not realize that sales the last couple of years for BOTH devices were propped up by such capabilities?

Was the respawn game rumored to be a launch title?

Well, in perspective... It's possible to be one of... if not the best launch lineup in history (not like that's a big feat) especially if you account for third party games.

We won't know until it shakes out, though.

The people you're referring to are still rocking Nokia 3310 phones.

Well I assume so because they wouldn't possibly want a smartphone would they? Since you know, calls and texts are no longer all it would do right?

Anything Nintendo can do, Microsoft can do better

lol i don't know man/woman.... I have only seen MS try to imitate them in platformers and fail, fighting games and fail and sales and fail. Now they HAVE managed to best them in who can brick the most systems. but Nintendo is playing catch up with Wii U.

Actually that's pretty awesome
360 just have 3 launch exclusive titles

Hmm. Poignant comment you got there, fellow man/woman.

Bullshit. This whole thread is full of similar sentiment. That's what I was commenting on.

But that is merely one extreme, it's similar, not the same. And GAF will also criticize Sony when they do mistakes, just look at their AA releases like Sly 4 or its HD collection. Dead on the water.

NDAs. Most people just want to stay tight lipped because they don't want to get in trouble. Once a story breaks, it's public knowledge and people feel less inclined to stay silent since they weren't responsible for the initial leak.

Another thread about next-gen Xbox that has a bunch of Sony fanboys shitting it up.

Can't say im surprised.

I am neither a fanboy of microsoft nor sony. Im a fanboy of my own entertainment and most importantly my own wallet.

Whoever serves my needs best for the cheapest price, has my allegiance.

Because the Next Xbox isn't a Gaming console it's a Multimedia Computer & Sony didn't really show much that would worry them because it's Apple & Google that they are worried about getting in the way of their plans not the PS4 games looking better.

if Sony would have showed the PS4 with GoogleTV made in it that might have made them worry.

And this is why I love Sony. Games over everything.

I assumed Respawn's was a year out. For me, that game shipping this year would be bigger news than it being exclusive.

If you look at MS's lineup it would make more sense to push it as a launch title. I don't see them releasing it next fall, because by then you're probably gonna have a Halo or Gears, or maybe Black Tusk's shooter.

Man I don't believe this for a second. I honestly have never cared for what Microsoft has thrown out, but I don't believe they would fall back too far with development on the production of Next box.

Even if they did I'm sure they will pull a few surprises by the time of the console reveal.

Still won't affect me though. As I'd sooner buy a wii-U in its current state than support paying for a subscription to access online gameplay, and I wouldn't buy a system for third party titles alone. Same reason why I skipped out on PS1 and PS2, its only a matter of time before that exclusivity leaves that console.

I expect MGS4 won't stay Ps3 exclusive forever, just like Bayonetta 2: super cuhrayzee edition will end up on next gen consoles when it tanks on release.

The preposition that either company has some sort of priority list or some sort of prerogative to pursue one market "more" than another has become quite pervasive across GAF as of late and I'm not sure why.

They both need to tackle all the markets hard or they face death by iPad. If games are all Sony's got or if TV is all MS has got, they both lose.

Death by iPad? I'm sorry, but there is still a large market that prefers gaming with a controller while looking at the TV.

Still, that is 6 months ahead of Nintendo.

That's not nice.

I'm loving Nintendo right now. I don't have the time, nor the money to keep buying all the games coming out on PS360. But I want to.

With my WiiU, I get to take my time, play a game to its fullest without the fear of another must have around the corner. Perfect for me.

PS Plus has been good though on the financial side of the equation.

The iPad is not capable of killing traditional game consoles in the current market. Ever. Stop saying otherwise. ALL the games on the app store are either ports or shit games compared to what we get on console/PC.

Kinda got to agree with him here. Current market changes proves that dedicated hardware with physical controllers could be diminished to a point where it is niche. I don't buy it, but I see it everyday.

Death by Apple's ecosystem and converging more than anything.

But yeah, I'd rather these companies grow bigger rather than recede to satisfactory Gamecube and Xbox level sales from core gamers only. I don't think anybody would be happy about that. Growth is required before those casual gamers and the extended market start leaving towards to faster iterating and perhaps even at some point more powerful platforms.

Boy, do I have a handheld you'll love!

I expect both of them to tackle both markets the question is which one they going to talk about \ build there advertising on more in the beginning .
For Sony they seem to be going for gamers \devs first early on and come may 21 we will see what MS got to say .
At the end of the day one going to have more priority than the next even if it by a small amount since both companies have different out look on certain things .

I have been praying for the return of third party exclusives, but I was praying for them on the PS4... damn it. This news does not really surprise me though.

Sony has got the indie scene on lock right now, so that's one thing. Right now they have Diablo III and The Witness, both likely timed exclusives, so there's that too.

Sony will be fine, I don't think they'll ever be lacking in third party exclusives.

Well, to be honest, it might even be that MS still are up to 12 months ahead of Nintendo. I might even be belittling the problem.

I also think that the Wii U is a cool machine and all. But it is gonna feel old when the new stuff comes out.

Nintendo had all the chances in the world to get ahead & a good start. But the company seem to be so amazingly out of sync. There have been so many bad decisions taken lately...

Jeff Gerstmann said something to the effect of there's going to be lots of third party exclusives on both sides.

I hope Microsoft gets severe backlash from consumers for their forceful attitude in the gaming industry this upcoming gen.
I'm sorry, but every single rumor I hear makes me less and less interested in the upcoming "Xbox".

Always online, no used games, $299 model with subscription of $10 Dollars a month. For what? For the next gears and halo? No thanks.

6 months back? I hope your ready by November. I'd hate for your console to have a 60% failure rate again.
