So, in said hypothetical situation, if MS were to approach EA to lock down either, they could realistically achieve such a goal by offering to pay for the 500k/1m lost sales on PS4. This won't happen though, but if it ever were to, that is probably how it would go down.

Nice, do we have confirmation the new Final Fantasy is PS4 exclusive though? I thought that was just a rumor (although all positive Sony rumors are automatically true)

the comments on beyond 3D suggest otherwise, its just hard to accept they could have turned an early start and a lead into the rumoured situation without some sort of change?

just realized that was the other thread... Sorry. Look up the kotaku six months behind thread... Tolito expanded on the reasons for his comments. Then thuway said Ms originally planned a 2012 release.
the comments align with a beyond3d poster who worked on Durango audio but says he quit because the culture changed, there's no gamers left on the team and he didn't agree with the direction Ms want to go.
its sure interesting... But as always unless someone genuinely blows the lid we'll never know the truth.

except it's getting the biggest names and reveals in gaming. guessing bf4 might be there in a big way too, which is just crazy considering they're the biggest competitors. no way i thought ms could get both ea and activision in it's corner. you figure it's one or the other.
dont count ms out. they are powerful at business.
it also makes me think durango isn't as underpowered as claimed, because i have a hard time seeing third parties embracing it if so.
but, cant wait to see the new cod and how it stacks up to the bf4 footage.

I hope they nailed it ... My three defining experiences of this Gen have been the launches of halo 3, reach and 4... Where my best online mate and I put in marathon co op sessions.
ps4 looks amazing...genuinely amazing... But Xbox has given me the best controller and most consistent experience across the generation.

Well I would argue that when 360 launched the feeling was "let's make the greatest game machine ever", and now the focus seems to be a bit more about making money and creating an eco system.
You only have to turn on your 360 to see that focus shift.

I'm actually stunned at how positive the attitude to the PS4 has become. After the reveal the overwhelming sentiment here seemed to be one of disappointment that it was just more of the same. A couple of months later its the second coming.
I'm actually not to worried if Microsoft is 6 months behind schedule on first party games. If they're moneyhatting third party exclusives for launch and have the majority of their first party stuff coming out in the following months they'll be fine. An exclusive is an exclusive, no matter where it comes from

I just think people wanted something to be true that was highly unlikely to be the case from the very start. I genuinely believe that, deep down, all knew this, but were just having a little fun at the expense of the new xbox.
For those that really believed the next xbox would be weak, well, jokes on them? I don't think a lot of people realize what the rumored GPU for Durango will be capable of in a console. We can't use existing pc games using a similar looking GPU as a judge, because that same attempt with the closest pc equivalent to the ps3 and 360 gpus wouldn't have told us we would be seeing games that look like Uncharted 2, Halo 4, Forza 4, GT5, and a whole host of other games. Weaker than the PS4, if that turns out to be the case, does not mean weak, period.

Yes they will focus on Kinect. They will talk about new experiences, they will still have games. If it hurts you that much, buy a Sony Console and please leave this thread for the Xbox fans to worry about their kinect ridden games.

Well, we need to have something to get excited about, and with the WiiU stalling and the mute MS, it only leaves the PS4. Actually it's rather "funny" that the main source of excitement revolves around Cerny and "8GB GDDR5". Not many "can't wait to play Killzone/Infamous/Knack".
The focus never changed. The moment they started asking gamers to pay for online services (multiplayer among them), you knew they were about creating a max profitable ecosystem. And that was 10 years ago.
It may be more obvious now that there are more and more services available, but that was the plan from the beginning.
That is not at all what I said, the focus has changed from making the greatest gaming machine to creating a max profitable ecosystem.
And don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with that. It just isn't the same.
I applaud the wider features, I just don't like the feeling I am getting from the current dashboard: let's throw as many ads in his face as people will tolerate. Not doing what is in the best interest of the consumer but in the best interest of the bottom line. You are moving awfully close to the edge if you do that, and it won't take much to push people over.

I can't pretend reading everything here (or on other forums), but I had to browse all recent topics to the end of page 3 to find a topic dedicated to either of those games, and it was called "Knack should not be counted out so easily" and has something like 150 posts. That looks like a very low level of hype.

I don't think people have been won over by anything Sony have done with the PS4 (let's face it, there wasn't much we haven't seen before in that unveil) so much as the combined fail of the Wii U's absence of games/sales and the Durango's absence of game focus/pre-launch anti-hype has made the PS4 downright shine by comparison.
Third parties have all but abandoned Nintendo and Microsoft has apparently all but abandoned games... so why wouldn't we be excited for Sony's new baby?
The onus is now on Microsoft to change these widely held perceptions.
I love competition in this marketplace... it's always a good thing for gamers... so I hope they're able to hit a home run on the 21st.

That statement isn't true at all.
It was very positive and I took away that a lot of people were surprised at how joined up they are now and how well they presented the 'vision'.

it's a THREAD - there's hundreds of comments in it.... most of them pointing in the same direction as EDGE and Digital Foundry have - that Durango is 'somewhat' less powerful than PS4.
I'm not saying I agree, or even that I fully believe it, but when a lot of technically minded people say something points in a certain direction you'd have to be an idiot to ignore it just because you want something else to happen to suit your view of the world.
Personally I think MS is seeing delays because their 1st party new IP's are geared at directly opposing PS IP (which is magnitudes better). MS have no answer to inFamous (open world), Last of Us (which is in a league of it's own) among others. If MS decided to do this and fill these genre gaps it would mean new IP's, new concept etc which we all know is a very lengthy process. This may be where the 'growing pains' rumour is coming from?

I'd say maybe that's down to knowing relatively little about them. I do love to see the KZ thread bumped to the front page; mainly cos I think it's very pretty.
Apart from theorising and expressing excitement is there much more conversation to be had? Or course those two measures might apply to any game! I dunno, seems a bit of an arbritary measure of hype.
