I don't consider 3rd party exclusives cheating. However 3rd party exclusives won't win me over mainly because there is a huge chance that exclusive ends up only time exclusive or the sequel to that IP ends up multiplatform. Especially if PS4, Durango and PC are all x86 hardware. I expect Respawn IP to be timed exclusive (maybe by a year) if not the sequel would be multiplatform. Where as a game internally developed will always be fully exclusive an we can expect all future sequels to be exclusive.

It would be weird to consider it cheating anyway. The antiquated belief that a contractor getting a job being BAD is so odd. Couple that with the fact that if you are an MS 1st party dev most people consider you driven by DA MASSER and how could you possible WANT to work there? Lol.

I agree that most may not be exclusive forever but 1 year, or having the original AND a sequel on one system steers me pretty easily. I guess it depends on how long you want to wait and if you care about a multi sequel line of games and possibly save game movement between them.

Is this real life?

10+ multiplats, Knack (Lol) and you saying that Halo is the only exclusive when MS has already confirmed that new IP's are on the way... At least wait until the 21st man.

Don't knock it because it isn't shootbang.

Infamous is a poor man's Crackdown.

No one has played Last Of Us. Or is the game automatically good because of 'teh grafiks'?

Stop perpetuating this myth. Microsoft has it's own IPs for every Sony one and has had so since launch.

I loved the original Crackdown was awesome. I had so much fun just running around the city with my friends. A new Crackdown would be great if the developers are given enough time to develop it and they add some mission verity (and they make use of the additional console power for 'teh grafiks').

But I don't think MS has an IP to compete every with Sony (I also don't think Sony has an IP to compete with every MS IP). Sony has IPs like Uncharted and I don't think MS have a cinematic big budget 3rd person action adventure game.

It won't take much to derail Nextbox announcement if MS intends to cater to the casuals on May 21st.
Eh, I think both the 21 event, and E3 conference will be pretty core centric since we're the ones who are going to mostly be buying Durango for the first couple of years.

I'm not fully up to speed on this thread.

Is that the general consensus... that the 21st event will be more about casual entertainment than blockbuster games?

I hope this for both MS and SNE, leave all the social media integration blah blah on the sidelines. I want to see new tech and how it's applied to the games.

I'm sure they'll want to cater to everyone. So we'll see core games, we'll see casual games. And we'll see games in between. Certain GAFers will only highlight the casual games shown to prove an argument. Other GAFers will only highlight the core games to prove a different argument. And so the Internet goes on.

Meanwhile the general public will remain ignorant and it'll be up to the marketing gurus to try and change this late in the year. Still, at least the Xbox 360 dashboard allows lots of advertising space for that.

Outside of the new COD being shown, nobody knows for certain exactly what MS will be showing at this event right now. People are mostly just guessing or trolling

This is probably the most truthful post in this thread

I think most people aren't expecting much since it's only a one-hour event.

Rightfully so, I expect four main topics:

The new console hardware (and peripherals),
The new Xbox Live environment,
The non gaming apps (eco system)
Games.

And I expect a 50/50 split between games and the rest.

And we already know there will be CoD: Ghosts, and it probably will be 10 minutes or so, so that would leave 20 minutes for other stuff, so probably another 2 games, plus some global support mentions. If I had to gamble the games would be Ryse and a new Rare property.

What I absolutely don't expect, and nobody should, is pricing and availability. For 360 they announced that a few months later. And it makes sense to announce it a little later to create a new media moment and they have a better sense of possible shipment numbers for different dates.

I think that the Ghost reveal will be shorter with a longer demo at E3.

Microsoft is probably going to have CoD Ghosts timed exclusives, an exclusive Epic shooter, Battlefield 4, and Respawn games exclusive coming out on Nextbox near launch.

The "lol casual games" argument is getting tiresome.

I'm a lot more interested in Microsoft Studios own projects than 3rd party.

It is insane to expect MS to go all out on the first reveal software-wise. This event will be about ecosystem and hardware/peripherals. They'll have CoD and announce the continuation of the DLC exclusivity contract, one new IP that's most likely Kinect/family friendly and Forza Next for some eye candy.

They'll use E3, GamesCom direct events to announce their 1st party games at a pace to keep up interest.

Agreed; I really do not expect much in the way of a games reveal blowout on the 21st. I am thinking a handful 3-5 total. I can definitely see a shooter (COD); a family title (Kinect 2.0); a racer (PGR5); and maybe something surprising. Most of the focus to be on how the system will work as you point out: features, ecosystem, and actual hardware/controller.

The presser lasting 1 hour, is it a rumor or a direct statement by Microsoft?

http://www.gametrailers.com/side-mission/50790/new-xbox-unveil-coming-on-may-21-to-spike-tv-and-gt

The countdown is on: Microsoft is making a next-generation Xbox and you’ll be able to see the first details LIVE right here on Tuesday, May 21. The 60 minute announcement event will air live right here on GameTrailers.com, Xbox Live and exclusively on Spike TV in the US and Canada.

So was this discussed at all?

Kinect 2.0

A different department within Xbox handles Kinect hardware and software. The focus was more on developing and networking both consoles with Kinect more of an after thought at that point, considering dealing with it would be less of an issue even with hardware changes to the main console hardware. Kinect isn’t the primary focus.

The development kits required several pieces of hardware as to combine all “potential” hardware which may or may not be required to work with each other, which also includes the potential for any or all devices to required a network connection, which is where most of the “required” rumors are coming from.

I'm confused because it's from VGLeaks so it's supposed to be reliable, but also, it's not bad news about Xbox, which I'm pretty sure means it's definitely false.

I wonder if the CoD thing is a Bundle at launch

:o never thought of that until now, wow that could be huge to get people to buy it. also if it included a season pass with the bundle then it would be better.

I just hope my final exam isnt on the 21 :( lmao it probably will be, noooooooo i want to see it live

What are you going to do if it is mandatory?

Laugh my arse off that MS really were stupid enough to make it mandatory. As much of a boon as Kinect has been for MS, they really shouldn't put too many eggs in that basket. They only need to look at Nintendo to see what happens when the love affair comes to an abrupt end.

I expect they will, nothing is out of the realms of possibility with MS.

I've been saying since this came out I think VGLeaks is correct. There were zero Kinect functions in Gears of War 3, Judgment, and Halo 4. If MS was making it the primary focus of gaming, you would think they would at least include it in some form in their last three biggest releases.

Both nextbox and ps4 will have more shooters than you can shake a stick at in the launch window.
