Both nextbox and ps4 will have more shooters than you can shake a stick at in the launch window.

When is the camel's back going to break? I fear it never will...

Don't get me wrong, I love a good FPS, but I'd much rather see a new genre rise to the top next generation. Let's see a return of the strategy game or tactical shooter.

I loved the original Crackdown was awesome. I had so much fun just running around the city with my friends. A new Crackdown would be great if the developers are given enough time to develop it and they add some mission verity (and they make use of the additional console power for 'teh grafiks').

But I don't think MS has an IP to compete every with Sony (I also don't think Sony has an IP to compete with every MS IP). Sony has IPs like Uncharted and I don't think MS have a cinematic big budget 3rd person action adventure game.

They have Gears and Alan Wake.

Just because neither of them has "platforming" doesn't mean they can't be compared. Gears and Uncharted actually get compared all the time. Uncharted is a third person shooter. Gars and Alan Wake are third person shooters. So Microsoft actually 2 IPs (one that Epic owns) for that Sony one.

Ultimately, my point was, that the fact that Sony supposedly has all these IPs and studios with Microsoft having none is a complete myth.

It just came to my mind, what if the Infinite is 3G/LTE enabled?
Would make all online rumors a bit more believable.
Why would it even have or need that?

And why would it make those rumours believable when 3G/LTE are notoriously inconsistent and unreliable networks across NA?

The always online rumor is primarily hard to believe because Microsoft is apparently trying to position the next Xbox as the family entertainment box. Even if gamers would be willing to cope with that harsh requirement, I can't see mainstream consumers putting up with their entertainment hub becoming useless every time the net goes down (Edge's initial report claimed the internet connection would be required in order for the system to function, not just for playing games).

I'm 95% sure that the always online requirement is just a misunderstanding. In fact, I'm pretty sure that it was never seriously considered.

They use an Apple TV and Roku just fine...

Don't Remedy own the Alan Wake IP? I think Remedy published the Alan Wake games on places like Steam and Nordic Games released a PC retail disc and Microsoft published the console version.

Regardless I get the point your making. MS does have some good exclusive games on it's platform.

Yes, Remedy own the IP, they just have a publishing relationship with Microsoft.

As far as I know, Roku and especially Apple TV can be used offline with local content. That, and they're primarily internet streaming devices, not all-in-one entertainment hubs.

To do the most useful and awesome thing you can do with Apple TV, which is streaming video content from your iTunes Library on your computer, you need to be online and signed into your iTunes account for home sharing to work. I don't know of my Apple TV being able to use home sharing without signing in to my iTunes account, which you need an active internet connection to accomplish.

I'll try some stuff, but I doubt it works that way.

You need to be permanently online for streaming, you don't need to be permanently online to do anything whatsoever, which is what is claimed for Durango.

idle thoughts...is gaf gonna crash on the 21st?

did it crash for the sony reveal? i seem to recall so.

this one feel bigger though. we've had more time to wait and hype will build to intolerable levels.

i'm wondering if gaf might start crashing the day or two before, even...

It'll crash the second they show Kinect and everyone starts posting Kinect gifs.

All I know is that if MS show a bunch of core games, the crappy rumours are false, and Kinect has a minimal showing, the goalpost shifting some people will engage in is going to be enormously entertaining.

I don't give a shit.

I just want to play console games that look as good as some heavily modded current PC games.

that + "instant on".

rest is bull-motherfucking-shit.

It crashed multiple times during the Sony conference. For us euros the Sony conference was on here about 2.00am in the morning I'm sure not many stayed up for that. The MS one will be 5.00pm so numbers are going to be crazy. euros and the rest of the world watching.

I hope the servers stay up as I love Gaf during these events. I wonder if gifs will be banned on that day?

Good luck with that, both consoles will not push that (heavily modded as in downsampled etc.)

in a year or two, with some code wizzardry, for a guy who can play sub720p/30fps and still enjoy them.

even if technically true, I won't bother/notice, games will lokk fantastic.

I'm getting wet just thinking playing COD/Battlefield on PS720. I will rike it. please understand.

Knee jerk reactions after a teaser will be pointless from both sides. We're not going to get a major look at what both Microsoft and Sony are planning until E3.

I doubt it. There is not much interest in Microsoft at the moment on GAF.

QUOTING gifs should be banned every day.

It really aint but theres probably alot of people like me. Looking from out the window letting time go buy...but still day 1ing the console. I thought I was fully ps4 after the reveal event but something makes me think MS is gonna be having the same console sony. If thats the case I believe I will go microsoft. 360 wasnt my primary gaming device for no reason so I think I should give MS another shot for what they provided me this gen. Even though I bought 4 360s something about the console made me buy it everytime, and as this and E3 washes over I feel come launch Ill have that same feeling.

yea my 3 cents

It doesn't even need a CPU or gpu all it needs is fast ram and gaf will eat it up. 16 Gb stacked 4Tbps confirmed and nothing else in the box.

12GBs of GDDR5 + Dual APU 2.4 TF GPU with synergistic low latency special sauce + Xbox 360 SOC for Backwards Compatibility + super advanced Oculus Rift and Kinect 2.0 support.

Thanks for letting me know, Greenberg!

They'd have to redesign the bus to even use 12 GB at all, I believe.

Not from the latest B3D post on the matter. Somebody said even up to 32GB would be possible without redesign.

That's one reason I keep touting it. Seems a drop in improvement just like Sony's 8GB was.

It's arguable how much they could take advantage of it with the supposed slow bus speeds though. Still, as I've said, it would allow them to reserve 3GB while still keeping 9GB for games, and if nothing else, excess could always be used to decrease loading.

This specs race must be bgassasin and the Wii U guys worst nightmare. "Bubu, they keep moving the goalposts that the Wii U was trying to hit!". Lol. I mean damn, Sony and MS aint playin...

I dunno, the more I think about it a simple upclock might be the lowest hanging fruit. Because I'm not sure the memory system can take advantage of 12GB...

Maybe an GPU upclock to 960. That would be ~14.5 TF I believe I've figured before. Close the gap with the PS4 enough to keep the IW and DICE guys happy?

I'm actually genuinely excited about this one !
I've held off on buying a PS3 / X360 all gen long and with the Wii U not being very attractive, I'll probably grab one of the new consoles at launch.

Here's to hoping they both handle backwards compatibility so I can delve into those massive, untapped, libraries of exclusives !

Why would increasing the amount of RAM be any more 'pointless' than PS4 going from 4GB to 8? Diminishing returns?

At the moment if rumours are to be believed, Sony have more RAM visible to developers and it's faster. If they can't increase the speed to parity, shouldn't they at least try to hit parity on quantity?
