Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | May 2013 | Lovecraftian Wasteland

Hmm when should I start joining MP games in SS? (In terms of SL)
Also we gonna arrange a EU group? Don't want to play with random as the Demo soured me badly.

(Won't be playing tonight by the by, will be able to play on Sat night)
Timezone UTC+2

Twinduct! this may be the first game we ever play together! hehehe

I really should have gotten Soul Sacrifice and get that FIFA13 deal. I gave away my FIFA13 copy to a friend for free (PS3) but now I kinda miss playing one or another match..

Don't know how much time they will keep that deal but this is going to be a harsh month so I need to keep on saving.

Playing through Gravity Rush right now thanks to PS plus.

with all your purchases, I was really happy to know that your financial situation turned around!

but yea SS is a worthwhile purchase! we could play together sometime soon!

I definitely want to cover my Vita in your skin now.

I've been quite busy with work, and haven't quite adjusted to the new job thus my gaming time in general has taken quite a hit, it's also why I haven't been seen much in the vita thread recently. I'd maybe play games today but I am 2-3 weeks behind on most of the tv shows I watch so I am trying to catch up on those.

I think I'm becoming a master in saving & getting my priorities right but it sure isn't easy fellow GAFfer. Ni No Kuni was my purchase for this month (finally!) and also got some PSN Cards but those was with Store Credit. Oh and Coffee, a man needs Coffee. ;)

SS with a FIFA Code would have been a good deal, but I couldn't say yes, for now. I also want Persona4 to drop in price but it seems it's never going to happen...!

sometimes, I think you fit your avatar (username too) really well!
but I agree, zulu you should play it!
haha thanks

Yeah I feel ya. I haven't been able to play much of anything since January, and I recently fell into a lot of free time. Yet, I'm sick as a dog. I haven't played Soul Sac anywhere near as much as I should have.

Should I buy Virtue's Last Reward with Japanese speech and English text (Japanese version) for £20 or with English voices and text (English version) for £30 on Amazon UK?

haha thanks

it sucks having all that free time but yet one is so sick one just don't feel like playing (or doing anything)

Eu version has japanese voices, only the usa version has english voices.

Last year i passed up on LBP V when it was on sale for $17, but not this time. I'm going to pick it up this weekend. I hear it's the best version.

Whenever, really. So far I've only dabbled in the MP a little bit, but it seems to work perfectly fine as a solo experience, so I wouldn't be too concerned about just trying to jump into a few games. I don't know if there's specifically an EU group but take a look at the Soul Sacrifice OT, there's a list of GAFers there with their regions included. I can add you, if you like. I should be around sometime this weekend.

Ah Thanks, yeah I'd rather not commit yet as I've done so before and almost always end up having to back out. But yeah add me so long. I'll hopefully get some time to play tomorrow and hopefully my ping aint that bad.

PSN ID: TwinD404

Lol true. All this time on steam and we never even tried! Although I blame my latency being the issue tbh. Have you added me on PSN yet? We can arrange a game for tomorrow hopefully.

Hmm any idea if the PS+ codes are region locked?

You should get 3 month PSN+ together with free Fifa 13 for 12 quids and download VLR from there ;)

From the Product Description on Amazon.uk fellow GAFfer:

"Please note this code will only work on UK/EU PSN accounts. Once your order has been despatched it can not be refunded so please ensure you will be using this code on a UK/EU PSN account and store."

Hope it helps!

Don't Starve is very click heavy. I don't think I would want to play it on a Vita. (Also opinions: I hate how arbitrary the upgrade system is and don't want to play it anywhere)

I kept thinking the same thing about Terraria on console/handheld but apparently they made it work really well with a controller. I'm just goint to buy Don't Starve on Steam really soon anyway though.

So I'm really enjoying Zombie Tycoon II. Beat the campaign but Im back trying to 100% each level. After that I'll try out the multiplayer.

good point. it wouldn't even need a translation to controller though as the game could be played with touch. the only issue would be all the overlapping objects which might make it more suited to a tablet. my criticism was more about the number of clicks per minute which would be an annoying amount of tapping (to me anyway)

I messed around with the Terraria PS3 demo this week. It felt good, but I'd much rather have a game like this for Vita so I'm waiting.

ah finally SOMEONE else has been playing ZT2. i'm loving it as well. super fun. and a nice change of pace for types of games out there. didn't think an RTS would control so well. loving it. and it has a plat!

I really like how they handled controlling units. Each unit on a different button. Im a huge Age of Empires fan and I think the controls work really well.

The only complaint I have is I would like to zoom out a little more.

I'm really not a fan of having games from PS Plus. It feels way too much like a rental.
It's well worth it, especially for VLR since that's the sort of a game that once you play through you most likely won't touch again. Plus you'd also get Uncharted and Gravity Rush which are incredibly.

I already completed Uncharted (majestic!) but I want to own the good games physically. :) I don't like that I had a bunch of PS3 games before but I can't play them because I won't pay the subscription.

Is it still a rental if you never intend to stop subscribing? ;D
Heh, kinda. But I'm the guy who don't like to have any subscriptions this year besides my very cheap monthly subscription for my phone.

Count me in for today and after the weekend, also UTC+2.

Playing through Gravity Rush right now thanks to PS plus.

Game is breathtaking.... combat kinda sucks though.

This is terribly hypocritical of me, since I love Gravity Rush, but don't care that much for Monster Hunter, but Gravity Rush's combat is a lot like Monster Hunters: It's unwieldy and cumbersome at first, but once you become familiar with the nuances of it, it's actually kind of fun (Although I do still find Monster Hunter's combat unnecessarily frustrating still).

When it comes to GR, I eventually got really familiar with the speed, range, and maneuverability of Kat's attacks, and battles became a lot more enjoyable for me. Mixing the analog controls with the motion controls for combat became second nature to me after a while, much like the gyro aiming in Uncharted: Golden Abyss.

I'm really looking forward to how they improve GR for the sequel. I loved it.

EDIT: Also, I almost missed my bus stop heading to work tomorrow because of Soul Sacrifice. I was just so wrapped up in it that I didn't realize my stop was approaching. Same thing happened on the way home. I had to hurry up and stuff my Vita in my bag and hop off the bus before it took off from my stop. Been a long time since any portable game distracted me that much. Persona 4 doesn't even do that for me, and it and SS are the two games I've been going back and forth between on my Vita lately.

Gravity Rush had quite entertaining combat, but I think where it suffered (as well as the game in general), was the real lack of diversity in it's mission design. You were essentially repeating the same few tasks, albeit with a slight caveat every now and again.

It speaks volumes to the level of production, because I was compelled to complete the game. A sequel has the potential to be outstanding, if it addresses those key-issues

I completely agree with you. Was baffled when reviewers had so much critic for the combat system, especially the missing lock-on. First, it would have been way too easy, second, there was a slight lock on. Overall positioning was the key.
The lack of diversity in mission design is typical for an open world game and surely needs some work.

So can anyone make any kind of sense of the story of Thomas Was Alone? I like the gameplay, the narration and relationship of the characters if great, but as an overall narrative it seems meaningless to me. Also, that ending. :/

Also, I don't know if I would recommend the DLC. I don't think the controls of the game are tight enough to support what they're asking you to do with that
jetpack
in places. And... I had no idea you were able to release DLC without trophies any more.

Well, as far as I understood it -
they're artificial intelligences who have become self aware. Thomas discovers that there's a whole Internet outside their little local network, and starts leading them to "freedom", while the humans controlling the network tries to make programs to slow them down or delete them.

Finally got off my ass and transferred some stuff from my Vita.

First Platinum :)

Good game, though I feel it's more than a little overrated around here... Having to unlock hard mode was entirely pointless padding too.

However there's that.

Looking forward to the DLC, I hope it assumes players have already cleared all the challenges of the main game and goes on from that level.

Cool that NA PS+ is getting BlazBlue, hope we get it too :).
