sick of people trashing xbx gold, its a great service. ppl say they get free games from ps+, but i got a bunch of free games on xbx too such as

doritos crash course
happy wars
undertoe
yaris

plus if i didnt pay for gold, how am i supposed to get all the halo 4 achievements? AND i got $10 worth of discounts last year, so do the math

mj-laughing.gif

The math: $60 - $10 = $50
You paid $50 for Halo 4 cheevos and 4 games.

All of my friends are on XBL, and if you look hard enough it's easy to find year cards for 20-30$.

Gold only "deals" I usually save 20-30$ easy a year anyways.

So I basically loan 20-30$ to microsoft a year to play with my friends online.

Not ideal but not as bad as most of gaf likes to make it seem.

Wow, where are you finding subs for under $30? That's a great deal.

i really dont play on x360 and ps3 but having both of them (online!).i prefeer pc for that..but had tried both....i def prefeer xbl

psn is barely useless TO ME

-No day long maintence.
-Party chat
-If you like having commutation online, all xboxes come with mics.
-I'd be willing to bet XBL is more secure than PSN.

barely useless?

Seems pretty clear. He thinks PSN is fantastic and only has a scant few downsides.

Hey You said:

1 - haven't noticed that
2 - can do on Vita (I.e. it's not a PSN limitation but a PS3 one)
3 - see above
4 - tales from my ass

If you want to pay for some services that you can get for free on other platforms then go for live gold.

But seriously get gold if you want to play 360 exclusives online.

If you are really into online gaming with either Halo/Gears or Forza and you live in US or Canada = Yes absolutely worth it

Otherwise, i do not recommend it

As someone who is subbed on a 3 month card, I really cannot advise paying for it if you have a ps3. Its a waste of money and shouldn't even be considered valuable.

Gears 3 horde mode is the only reason I MIGHT re-up on Gold this year... if I find a $35 deal.

you should contact this guy in the buy/sale thread

Bioshock Infinite, Steam key $22 (SOLD!)
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, Uplay Promo code $7 (SOLD!)

I've also got a 12 month subscription card to Xbox Live that I've had for about two years and am likely never to use... $35, or whatever the last good deal was if you can point me at it.

Paypal or Amazon Payments; I'll PM you the key after I get the payment.

I subscribe to both PS+ and XBL. I think XBL is a good deal, because you're paying for a great online service that is reliable and has a good community. I also think XBL offers a superior party experience with friends. Me and my friends can use the party voice chat when we're not in the same game. XBL is also very, very rarely taken down for maintenance. The day I bought my Vita, PSN was down for more than 8 hours for maintenance. That sucked, and they fairly consistently bring it down for maintenance. MS is definitely a lot better at running their service for sure. I'm pretty sure that PSN has been down for more time than XBL has ever been down for, including the original Xbox days.

I do think PS+ offers some great benefits to XBL in terms of free games and discounts, which is definitely a big positive for PS+. I don't think MS is going to ignore those benefits for next-gen, and I expect them to do similar things for next-gen.

One thing I will say is that I don't think XBL is a good deal if all you want to do is watch Netflix. One of my friends only used their 360 for Netflix and cancelled their subscription because they would just rather hook up their PC to their TV to watch it, and that's fine. XBL is a good deal only if you use your 360 for both gaming and entertainment.

LOL!!! Great post. I actually thought you were serious for a second.

Internet Explorer.

You can thank me later.

Seriously, as someone who's been a member for 5 years and just let my sub lapse...

I can't, sorry. You have a PC (and presumably Steam, which is equal to XBL) and a PS3. You're set.

Hey man, why you gotta talk smack about steam?

I do wonder if next gen MS will even try to regain the ''premium online experience'' thingy live had going for it before and in small ways still has or just trusts every Xbox owner to not give a shit.

PS4 will have cross game chat, headset bundled and all that good stuff. The question of course is if Sony will charge for them too (and online play, bleh). If they are tied to PS+ and they continue IGC soon from release it still has the edge over XBL unless MS changes things so heres hoping.

As a person who let my sub run out last month for the first time since 2007, I can't sell you on it. It's not worth it since you have a PS3 and PC.

The third party multiplayer games are a million times better on xbox live in my honest opinion. Also, the community of CoD, All halo games, Forza, gears of war and other online tailored software are heavenly on live...And, more chances of microphone communication among fellow gamers are a guaranteed also if you're into that.

Ignore these assholes that claims that there isn't a benefit for live. If you don't wanna pay. Play on the inferior online community on the ps3. plain and simple.

You named three shooters and a racing game. Good job on representing the gaming community as a whole.
And what is this 'community' Xbox Live members keep talking about? Last time I checked there weren't rooms where one can enter based on their favorite game and just hang out. Am I missing something here?

Pretty simple way to see if you want Xbox Live.

Do you want to play games online on xbox? If yes, buy Xbox Live.

If no, then don't buy Xbox Live.

It's not like you have much option if you want to play online on Xbox.

The games I had mentioned are God tier on live.....Of course their is hundreds of games that is on the service so I'm not sure why you need to point that out in your post.

The community I am also talking about is the presence of millions of millions of gamers throughout live that just isn't on any platform if you don't game on the PC. (even then its better because its from the console)

Also, Rooms? hangout?.....That makes online communities? On a console? What?

GAF

5% Microsoft fans
5% Nintendo fans.

Is Comcast OnDemand Xbox exclusive?

He already has a PC and a PS3, unless he has friends that only play xbox or he really likes the exclusives, Live is a really hard sell. I fail to see bias here. He even lives in europe!

What are you going to do with Live that your PC doesn't do for free (and often better)?

Live is definitely a better service than PSN just in terms of functionality, population, and ease of use, no doubt. The only problem is do I want to pay X amount of dollars each month for that bump in quality?

I'm also curious to see how close Sony closes that gap with the PS4 to Nextbox. If it's even closer than I think people would rather just have the slightly worse, free service.

Instead you're left with the sad realisation that all you're paying for is access to things that are free everywhere else!
That was pretty much my point, I'm always amazed people throw hissy fits over Plus games being rentals when its direct competitor is essentially a very artificial paywall.

Not even close. A majority of people aren't the kind of exclusive fans you depict but equal opportunists who go wherever the games and bang for your buck are. I own way more Xbox games than PS3 games but it would require some Olympic level mental gymnastics to describe XBLG as anything else but a fee to play with your friends.
And you forgot PC and iOS GAF.

Who is "he?" I'm not talking about anyone specific.
Also I'm not talking Live being a hard sell either. Both PSN plus and Live are hard sells and I believe neither are worth paying for, which I why I don't pay for either.

What I am talking about is the number of Sony defense force present on the forum as a whole.

I can't really see the point of paying for it unless you want to play Xbox exclusives online. But if you want to play Xbox exclusives online, I can't really recommend anything else.

i have a pc, ps3 and a 360. dnt mind paying for netflix on the pc nor ps+ on ps3 as i consider both to be great services. i love windows 8 and want a surface pro, so i try not to blindly love/hate any brand/ecosystem if i can help it. i really perfer the 360 controller and menu layout much more than ps3/steam big picture mode - but i am really, really tired of feeling fleeced due to requring xbl gold. i feel like if i thought the service was worth the money then i wouldnt hate myself as much and could get past the mental barrier i have. im in the uk so certain packages arent available to me like the espn one.

XBox Live Gold on your Xbox can:

- Let you play the best experience on console multiplayer
- Gives you access to Xbox's timed early AAA demos
- Let you join your friends on party chat across any game
- It let your Windows branded gadgets and Pc fully integrate your Xbox Live experience
- You can also on Gold use Xbox.com to communicate with your Live friends while far from your home console
- Full Entertainment with whole apps your Xbox 360 can have
- Surprise free games and souvenirs from time to time
- Your UK Live Account Gold is able to join Live Rewards and cash in from your play time
- Unmatched console untroubled uptime and award winning service support over social networks

Did I forgot something?

You're being a bit ridiculous.

PSN Plus and Live can't really be compared; they're not similar. Live is required to use half the functionality of the system, Plus is an additional service, a subscription service, for games.

If you love wasting money, this is the service for you.

I did it for a year... shame on me.

Answering this... I wouldn't pay again for online service because I don't play multiplayer on games so often, only on football games like PES or FIFA, and I can play it on other platforms for free.
