Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | May 2013 | Lovecraftian Wasteland

Clearly they delayed velocity ultra to add Carl's name in the credits

Haha, something like that.

Velocity Ultra better not be $15, it's a port of a $4 PSP game.

It's £6.49 in the UK so obviously won't be $15.

Here's a video of GAF's BlueMaxima playing it. He loves it.

I loved it, i liked it better than the stories, but thats just me

It does seem a lot more interesting than the other two as well. Thinking of getting that and the MediEvil: Resurrection. Get some of that PSP lovin I missed out on on UMD.

What's the likelihood of Lumines 1 and 2 ever being playable on the Vita? Hell, I'd take them as Electronic Symphony DLC at this point.

Couldn't they potentially get licensing for just a fraction of the skins on both and release them as DLC? They can keep their Gwenn Stefanni tracks but I NEED more Lumines.

people in the videogame business hate making money ... unless its a scam on kickstarter

What's the verdict on the PSP GTAs? Is Chinatown Wars worth a try?

I've heard great things about both Liberty City and Vice City Stories. More so Vice City than Liberty. I would go for Vice since it's the sequel.

I played Chinatown Wars on my DS and it was pretty fun. A good title for the system. I don't know how it stacks against the PSP library but the port has better graphics for what its worth.

As for the game itself, It has some milage. Definitely a simpler GTA title but everything you can expect and more from the top down origins of yore.

All in all, I had fun with the game so if you're a true GTA kind a guy, you can't go wrong with any of them really.

I tried Vice City Stories, to be honest, I found the controls very awkward. Also, it doesn't run too good (you'll get some slowdowns sometimes when you drive fast around the city). I would try with Chinatown Wars, as it looks much more interesting (though I only have played it on an iPod).

I thought it was bloody awful. The stories are two amazing and full GTA experiences, with VCS especially standing out as a game that has to be played if you are a fan of the franchise. Chinatown just felt like a lame port (which I guess it was).

I played all three back to back in a massive marathon on my PSP and the stories highlighted exactly how far the PSP could be pushed, as well as offering you the full console open worlds of the GTA3 era. Chinatown felt cheap in comparison, the lack of voices just one example. The only good thing about it was the ability to replay missions from your hideout.

This is coming from someone old enough to have played the franchise from the original PC release and I loved those topdowns in the day. I think I clocked just over a hundred hours on each of LCS and VCS but struggled to hit thirty on Chinatown.

Sony put up poor rips of the Stories games on PSN. They have slowdown not present on the UMDs.

Alright, thanks for your inputs guys. I guess I'll just skip the Stories games and go for Chinatown Wars just to try it out. I was always interested in it anyway, and it's cheaper on PS+ right now.
Thanks again guys!

Hmm, I really can't get my head around why my Vita videos are so unpopular in comparison to anything I've ever done. No one really cares, do they? Even my old PSP videos got a roughly 10k views before I even knew about reddit or was posting in forums besides gamefaqs.

Perplexing, but then again, it took me forever to buy one in the first place. Sony's marketing of the thing is really bad. Most people I show it to are like "IT HAS A TOUCHSCREEN?!"

It only does everything would've been more appropriate to this device.
Everything they added above games are things we buy smartphones for though.

In fact, it's kinda annoying that the Vita tries to do more than just play games. I can't really explain why it's annoying. I hate the whole APP thing for a dedicated gaming device.

Play-Asia is probably hated for their expensive prices.
I'd advise against yesasia, they took almost an entire month to get me my order I made with them. They don't have anything in stock, they order it from their suppliers when you order from them.

This thread reminds me that I need Senran Kagura. Where's the best place to acquire imports from in the US? CDJapan?

CDJapan is good, as are amiami and yesasia. Amiami prooobably has the cheapest price for it, but check it out!

I recommend NCSX.com, also check Amazon. They have one copy available for $82.00 that ships directly from Amazon.

Free developer license, but paid publisher license, which is required to test any applications you develop on your Vita? Wow, how generous of them..
I was interested in dabbling with what I could make on it, but no wonder PS Mobile is a failure.

Er no, publisher license is free.

Ah, guess I was confused by the sign-up process. When you finish your publisher application it says that once you're accepted you'll be able to buy it, along with a 'Pay' tab at the top.
You still shouldn't be forced to pay a yearly $99 just to test what you've made..

Wonder if this opens the floodgates for legal homebrew?

So basically my upcoming (not anytime soon mind) Vita purchases are going to be.

Persona 4 is great.

I notice you're missing Gravity Rush and Soul Sacrifice.

If you have a DS/3DS, 999 (DS) -> Virtue's Last Reward (Vita). You can play VLR without playing 999 first, but you lose the impact of a few twists, and VLR spoils 999's plot.

I plan to buy Dragon's Crown, Muramasa, Hotline Miami and Ys. Was thinking about DoA5 but now Im waiting to see whats up with this new DoA5 version for consoles.

I also recommend Chinatown Wars, but I bought Vice City Stories as well, and I'm totally digging it. Yeah, the controls are awkward, but that's old school GTA for you. I really like them both, honestly.
