Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | May 2013 | Lovecraftian Wasteland

Why do people refuse to explain these references? I searched for the name, and it seems like she's a user on the PSN boards.

Don't know if this is what you're asking, but Toto (totobeni) is a gaf member. "Toto" is also the name of Dorothy's dog in the Wizard of Oz. When Dorothy first arrives in Oz, she famously says to Toto, "I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore." Totobeni was a mainstay on vitagaf until they recently sold their vita. Now, they hardly frequent this thread. So, like in the movie, Toto is no longer where they once were (this thread...is kansas).

I've reread this a couple of times and it still doesn't make sense. Sorry.

He used to post in these threads but I think he got rid of his Vita or something. He generally hates anything that isn't Folklore if I remember correctly.

Yuna is definitely better than Lightning. I also enjoyed X-2 more than I did X, so I'm glad it's getting the HD treatment.

I do agree that X-2 was more fun than X, but for the first part.....lel

Anyway, I can't wait for the HD release, has Squeenix confirmed that X/X-2 HD for the Vita will get a physical release? I certainly hope it won't be just digital.

No. The only character worth half a damn in FFX is Lulu (and to a lesser extent Rikku). :P
That said, I couldn't bring myself to actually get anywhere in FFX-2. I was always worried I would miss something so I spent several hours farming something in the desert early on... got burned out before I really played the game. Didn't help that I hate Yuna either, most likely. I can't remember much about X-2... did it have the sphere grid that FFX had? I'm guessing no... the hot swapping of the party and the sphere grid were the only redeeming qualities about that game for me.

All SE has confirmed, I believe, is that it will be a single release on PS3 and seperate releases on Vita.

If this is Kansas, would the 3DS be the hurricane that whisked Dorothy off to Oz or would Oz be the 3DS itself?

Unlike the PS3 version, the Vita games are only available seperately, so that suggests digital only.

I think they are separate because they can't fit both on one cart. Digital, there isn't a size limit, but Vita cards can only hold 4 gigs (I guess less). Heck, some PSP games were almost that big, coming on 2 UMDs

If any company would do a dual cart release, it'd be S-E. They already did a double disc arrangement for Type-0, and I'm sure Sony would give them a nice discount to make up for the fact that carts a hell of a lot more to produce than UMDs.

Am I the only one who's getting a little bit tired of all these indie announcements? Don't get me wrong, I love the initiative Sony is doing and there's some gems in there - hopefully like Hotline Miami this month - but I just didn't buy my Vita for indies. I want AAA games that are tailored and exclusive to the platform that showcase its power.

It doesn't suggest digital AT ALL. Seriously, it would be the surprise of the year if Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD doesn't release in retail and on cards.

Ah of course, sorry, didn't think of the size of the games. My bad.

Sorry, I just chose a random person talking about the GAF/PS person so I could comment on the fact that nobody said who it was. The second sentence had nothing to do with it, and should have been a new paragraph.

Just beat Thomas Was Alone, and man that was absolutely great. Audio was great, narration was great, puzzles were so-so, a bit too easy at times but man, I loved it. But a question about the ending:
Was it supposed to end that abruptly? Some monitors were turning on and then it just cut to credits. Did I miss something or is that how it is?

I am really loving sly cooper 4.

Best vita purchase eva! Makes me wish why I did not buy the digital ps3 version.

Come on Guys! They are very close now. If U haven't kindly donate to our very own psnstores.com so that they can purchase the vita hardware capture kit.

I just did now and voted for Pinky spot leg massage.

I know ign praised it as great hand held version of soul cal 4 just with a few cuts...
and while I have played soul cal 4 on the ps3 quite a bit myself... I have yet to get motivated to get past the title screen on soul cal psp so yeah.... I can't comment personally. I think the opening movie looked nice though :P
Yup bought and tried it out a bit and lol the graphics are better than mortal kombat I'm quite speechless. Gameplay is the same as the console version which is exactly what i was looking for so I'm satisfied, still blows my mind that SC is closer to the console counterpart (graphics wise) than MK quite sad if you ask me. Really hope that Tekken tag tournament 2 sees the light of the day on the Vita and a bunch of other fighting games.

I feel the same way. I like indie games and I will support them but I didn't buy the Vita for indie games. Games like Uncharted, Wipeout, and Gravity Rush are great and I would love to see more 'console' like titles developed for it

Stuff like this is usually annouced at E3/Gamescom/TGS

Honestly I'm more than happy for the Vita to be my indie machine. All I need is a big game every now and again (a little Soul Sacrifice here, some Killzone there) and I'm set.

Well as per expected the price of the Vita in the UK is dropping...

...which is typical after me just buying one.

Oh well, I hope they don't announce a model upgrade at E3!!!

I felt the same way for a while, mostly because indie games were different from my comfort zone and because a lot of them were cheap with no substance.

Having spent more time with some of the acclaimed ones and lesser known ones, I kinda don't feel that way anymore. There are more indie games that have more substance and budget behind them or they have become more noticeable. Whichever it is, a lot of those games feel like snes era with modern standards like high resolution graphics and being able to save more often. This is very appealing for a person who craves old school games.

I also got my vita with the understanding that it would deliver console experience games, this is something I still expect and would be solely disappointed if all we get are indie games from now on. I am pretty content with the way things are at the moment however. We only need some well known console experience games and we're set.

I have the same feeling as you. Indies are nice, but I have Steam. I don't need a portable indie machine. I signed on to the Vita train at launch because I wanted titles similar to the PSP....but it looks like the chances of that happening are rather slim unless the PS4 cross-functionality works out.

Yeah, I feel the same. The narration and audio really made the game for me, it made a game which I normally wouldn't have considered that great really enjoyable and gave characters were blocks lives and personalitys that I liked.

I even bought Benjamins Flight because I loved it so much.

On the ending:
I didn't see anything other than that, I think it was supposed to be left open to interpertation as to what happened.

It has allowed me to discover some indie gems I wouldn't have bought or played much if they weren't on the Vita, but yeah in the end what was my system seller was Gravity Rush and I'm also enjoying Soul Sacrifice a whole lot now, those are where I feel the system really shines in terms of software and I'd love to see more of them.

Why would you waste play time at home on small indie games?

One thing to keep in mind though is that with Unity support coming, and several Vita developers sharing their success stories, I expect we'll start seeing more ambitious and complex "indie" (and not-so-indie) downloadable titles than the stylized 2D platformers that's dominating now.

Yeah man, absolutely. Everything was so simple, from the design aesthetics to the characters, yet the music and narration added an additional layer on top of it all that actually made you connect with the characters. I absolutely adored it and every second of it. This game alone made me feel like I got my money's worth out of PS+ haha.
Alright thanks. It did seem kind of strange how it just suddenly cut off like that. I think if it had just faded out slowly after the monitors had turned on it'd have been less confusing, but it really sounded like the game glitched out for a sec... unless that was the idea all along!

Why would you waste play time at home on small indie games?

In theory I hate this attitude, but in practice I understand.

When I'm actually sitting at my computer, willingly not doing other things I feel like I need to play something complicated like the Civ series.

When I'm using my exercise bike, or there is a dead time at work, playing a game like T was alone just seems perfect.

Are those successes really that notable? Sure, RCR apparently did better on PSN than anywhere else, but it only sold like 35,000 copies between the PS3 and Vita. By comparison, XBLIG has a few million selling games. Oh sure, they were minecraft knockoffs, but they sold on a whole magnitude better than anything indie on the Vita has, AFAIK.

Why would you waste play time at home on small indie games?

Shouldn't a game be worth playing, period, regardless of where you are? If you wouldn't waste time at home playing them, why would you waste time playing them anywhere?

But beyond that, the whole reason I got a Vita was so I could play console games without playing on a console. I really do not like sitting in front of a TV for hours on end anymore, and when I do, it's usually to watch a baseball game.

I also like to sit outside at night in nice weather. I have a 5 year old laptop that can easily handle any indie game, but probably not more recent console quality/AAA games. It barely runs Sacred 2, for instance, and that's the most recent game I've tried on it.

I'm up to 28 hours in Jetpack Joyride and still no end in sight..1500 deaths.
306.5k coins spent, 350k coins left to earn. Not even halfway done.
Barf.

Do we know if that's internal testing or Sony QA? Be interesting to see what they do given that the game is due to go EU PS+ next week.

My time for playing at home is limited and World of tanks consumes huge part of it. So it needs to be used for games that can only be enjoyed at home.

Plus Vita small screen is lot more generous than 24" 1920x1200 display for low budget indie stuff that tends to look like crap.

It'll be Sony's internal QA. They're damn good at finding bugs and TRC faults.

OMG-Z got a fail because trademark and copyright symbols were missing from PlayStation related messages.

PSBlog uploaded a new Muramasa trailer + blog post. The game looks gorgeous, as expected.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/05/09/muramasa-rebirth-seek-the-demon-blade-on-ps-vita/

Looks gorgeous! DAY ONE! I also can't WAIT for Terraria on Vita, really hope Starbound makes it at some point as well. My productivity will be gone once I have Terraria on the go ... although a portable Minecraft would be amazing as well.

Also even more OT - still holding out hope that Warrior's Lair is still being considered/finished, and that it resurfaces at E3. I really, really love dungeon crawlers like that and would LOVE one custom tailored to the Vita.
