Posted? Not even sure if this is the right thread but:
GameHorizon Roundtable Sammer Baroova (GameStick), Mark Rein (Epic Games) and Andrew Oliver (Blitz Games Studios) answering a whole load of questions about next gen, oculus rift as a potential platform, etc.
Of note, mostly from Mark Rein:
- Sony and MS didn't go for 5 year cycle because the increase in specs wouldn't be significant enough (people wouldn't be satisfied with 4x the RAM instead of 16x), they were waiting for something significant instead of going for the tablet revision cycle which he believes doesn't work with these devices
- Talks the media hub approach, says consoles are already good at that, they're just going to make it easier next gen, interfaces and services are where there will be improvements, and games benefit too
- Consoles can learn from Google/Apple by making gaming more convenient
- Walled garden experiences and business models are where current consoles suffered,
Mark Rein says that both Sony and Microsoft's next gen consoles are heavily embracing free to play, "I'm telling you what they're telling developers"
