They are either exclusive or they are not. "Console exclusive" is bullshit and paying developers to not release their game on PS3 adds nothing to the gaming landscape.
All published by Microsoft Studios. Does it matter if some of them went to Windows? Thats like saying its not a PS3 exclusive it it goes to the Vita lol.

If we are gonna be honest,Sony pays ND (yes they are owned by Sony, but still) to only make games for Sony platforms. Exclusive= not available anywhere else. Who made it or how it got made is irrelevant.

Yeah, as opposed to Sony who has released so many non-rehashed huge first party titles in the last 9 months. Such as...

Sony delivered a big bag of nothing in holiday 2012 and people totally ignore that...while ms had halo 4 and forza horizon, sony had a smash bros clone that sold 14 copies.

Sony has released a lot more exclusive stuff in 2012 than Microsoft ( Journey, The Unfinished Swan, Starhawk, Twisted Metal, Smash Brothers CLone etc.). SUre we can discuss about the quality/appeal/timing of these games but that doesn´t change that Sonys effort far outweighs Microsofts and that in their by far weakest years since 2007.

Let´s better not talk about 2013.

I got this, guys:

in about 10 days we will know if microsoft will bring us a killer or a dud

I don't know why I even responded to him. He does this in every Xbox thread. I know better now. :)

Also, I liked those non-rehashes of Killzone and infamous at the debut event. Really groundbreaking stuff.
Honestly I feel like probably a lot of why the PS4 announce failed to make an impression on me is because they showed KZ and inFamous. Those are by far the least interesting Sony properties.

If they'd showed Uncharted 4 I'd probably already be saving.

There is a difference between building something from the ground and just paying developer xy to not release their game that they would´ve made anyway on platform xy.

I'd rather they bought up more 1st party studios but i have to disagree with you here. Essentially 1st party developers are devs who have been bought to develop exclusively for that platform holders console. If people are being payed to make games it doesn't bother me.

It's still money that is going to the devs to be able to make more games. Have all sony's 1st party studios been built from the ground up?

I´d say about 2009, where they stopped releasing anything except rehashes of the same 3 Franchises and Kinect.

Weird. I guess all those games i was playing ( Both Alan Wake games, Dust, Mark of the Ninja, etc)must have been figments of my imagination.

Which of these were made by MS first party or at least exclusive? Yeah that´s what i thought.

Dat goal post changing.

So a rehash of Warhawk, and rehash of Twisted Metal? Two indie games (with Sony paying both developers a 3 game exclusivity deal to keep their games off of other platforms) and a new IP (new in terms of being a new name, not in design). Yeah, really blowing off the doors here.

I wasn´t disputing this, but most of these games listed weren´t made by teams that would qualify as first party.

And Sony has a mixture of teams that were bought, teams that were built from the ground and teams they are just having a contract with to develop exclusive content.

But the point is, their efforts in every single category far outweigh what Microsoft does.

All of those, except Journey, have bombed hard.

I didn´t change anything, most of the games listed just weren´t first party devloped or even exclusive.

Why are you even in this thread again?

Trials, Mark of the Ninja and Fez are also exclusive. You ONLY listed exclusives.

PC is irrelevant, and even if it wasn't, Microsoft allowed those games onto PC.

Its called revenue. Console exclusives are still exclusives in the console space.

So Mark of the Ninja does not count as an exclusive because in theory the game would've been ported to the PS3? so games like Yakuza, Ni No Kuni, Unfinished Swan, Deadly Premonition: DC are the bad kind of exclusives because they are not first party and there was a possibility that the above would've been released on the 360...what kind of nonsense is this?

Repost.. from another board.

just some thoughts..

recap-Xbox 360 - ring motif, connected, online features and services,
Xbox Infinity - infinite possibilities, connected+, modest specs, PaaS/cloud rendering/computing/AI *enhancements* using Azure infrastructure, (as 2nd gen software features) using display planes and new APIs/ DirectX update, Private cloud streaming functionality of interactive/non interactive content. heavy integration between xbox and windows systems in private and public cloud.

Less of a console launch and more of an ecosystem launch.

Mark of the Ninja doesn´t count as an exclusive because it´s not 360 exclusive, you can get it on PC. You don´t get Yakuza anywhere else than on the PS3, therefore it´s exclusive. Not that hard to grasp is it?

My explanation regarding the developers and Microsofts politics were more about the value they add to the gaming landscape and less about the term exclusive.

I don't think some are defensive, I think some have enjoyed a product and are naturally looking forward to its successor so when they see certain folks trying to shit stir with piss poor trolling you would expect from a ten year old kid, it's understandable you might feel irked after a while

Haha. So salty. I don't care how the later years of this gen. went. I fell in love with the Xbox from the first day I played Halo, and again when Microsoft brought Xbox Live. If it wasn't for them Sony would still be stuck in the dark ages in regards to online services. Playing games with my friends and having a great time doing it matters a lot to me. No cross-game chat on PS3 is a deal-breaker, full stop.

GCN executes the same instruction for 4 cycles if im not mistaken.
Maybe that is the place where confusion happened.

You have to divide by 3072 by 4. Either way MisterX guy thinks that each compute unit works on a single cycle
but that is, not how GCN works because each compute unit repeats the same instruction for 4 cycle so you get so that is where he gets the 64 threads from i would guess.
Im pretty sure this is all in the OpenCL programmers guide.

i think we can understand it from the scheduler

"Scheduler

The scheduler of the SC is responsible for loading shader code from memory and controlling execution of the four SIMDs. In addition to managing the SIMDs, the scheduler also executes certain types of instructions on its own."

On each clock cycle, the scheduler considers one of the four SIMDs, iterating over them in a round-robin fashion. Most instructions have a four cycle throughput, so each SIMD only needs attention once every four clocks."

is true that each simd MOST instructions need 4 cycles to get but working in asynchronous way i think that most of the cycles u will have in every SC (or cu) an instruction ready...

not every simd is ready at the same time and his put the picture in a more comprensible way....

each simd (and not computer unit as u said) for how is described on vgleaks have 64 threads cyclet the fact that a insctruction need 4 cycles come after...we r talking about threads here

its more that its allowed to happen that irks.

LoL @ "gaming landscape". Seems like you're just mad that the 360 has been getting third-party exclusives. It doesn't matter one iota to the people Microsoft should care about, their customers, where the game came from. The exclusives increase the value of the platform.

Like Sony's deals with ThatGameCompany, Insomniac (while it lasted), Naughty Dog and Giant Sparrow?

The only difference is that Microsoft allows some of its game to come out on the PC, while for the most part Sony does not.

Damn. Sounds like Sony pays developers to keep their games off of PC.

How dare they! They are ruining the "gaming landscape"!!

Naughty Dog is owned by Sony and the last game from ThatGameCompany was co-developed by SSM, so it´s often quite a bit more effort involved than just paying them to not bring their games on a certain platform.

While most of these games were shit, you can say the same stuff (more of the same, not setting the world on fire) about Halo 4 or Forza too. 2012 wasn't that great for both.

On the other hand Sony clearly owns 2013, but mostly for the fact that MS abandoned this gen. Hope it translates into great next gen games.

I always wondered why MS did get a lot of flak for exclusives like Alan Wake and Sony did not. I know it's not that simple, but it's really weird to me. At least MS recently publishes a lot of their games to PC, or let them publish by the companies themselves. Oh wait... they get flak for that too.

so ms allowing more people to play great games is bad?

according to your own rules, aren't Sony the bad guy for denying anyone without a ps3 access to those exclusives? Aren't they adding nothing to the gaming landscape?

The difference is that first party games give insight into the future of the console, not just the present. For example, we know even before they announced the system that PS4 is going to get games from Naughty Dog, Polyphony, etc. Back in 2005, we knew the 360 was going to get a game from Bungie. 3rd party developers hold no guarantees for the future. They could go multiplat like Bungie has now, or Insomniac, or they could go exclusive to another system.

What do we know that we are getting from the next XBOX? I guess we'll just have to wait and find out.

Perhaps it doesn't really matter, but I think it's first parties that help give each console and each brand an identity.

well, the good thing -short term at least- is that the more "conventional" (a.k.a mid-low pc) the next xbox technology will be,
the more exclusive good games microsoft will have to secure for it in order to make it walk.

so for at least a year or two, even if its a technological "piece of shit", it will be worth it most probably.
