Ah, I see. But what I'm saying is that it would be cool if Microsoft were able to prove they were actually playing on what will be the retail version of the hardware.
If it allowed them to launch earlier that would be fantastic as it shows they are THAT ready, but if it's only as a point of credit a few months before launch I think it's not that important.

They will absolutely show a box.

And I hope to god they get a little of that Surface design team to work on the thing.
Such sexy pieces of fucking hardware.

You know, this event is outdoors so maybe they still have things to add to the venue to make it "bigger". Although at this point, I just want to see the games.

Agreed but I don't underestimate just how much "dev box" or "console equivalent" causes doubt. It would be an excellent news boon to show the box as it works.

Chartz
lol
has it only at 840k, but that's likely a number pulled out of their asses.

It's not too far fetched a speculation. It sold 350k in the US and 110k in Japan at full price in their first years (08 and 09), respectively. Around 300k in Europe as well. Most Lost Odyssey sales came from reduced prices, like how now you can get it for $10, so it's not unthinkable that it's hit 1 million or come very close 4-5 years on.

If your argument is backed by such data then I am sorry but you have nor argument. We know it 540k in US and Japan. I don't even counting Europe it could reach 1mill but there is no conclusive data so we will agree to disagree :)

I'm referring to traditional JRPGs, many would contest that those count at all.

I see but jrpg literally means japanese rpg. It does not have to conform to a stereotype.

Who needs Mistwalker? Microsoft owns the IP, they can farm it out to Tri-Ace if they want.

Tri Ace aint in better shape either. They pretty much work in conjunction with SE and Lvl 5. Ms would need to invest some of its first party to help Tri-ace most likely.

It's about selling the system to fans of all genres and cashing in on their pricey subscriptions. Even 1000 people buying Durango for LO2 would make a huge profit over 5 years, never mind tens of thousands. It makes sense and it's the path Adam Sessler (and I) think they will take.

Fair enough. Its a good strategy but jrpgs sell less in West these days.

Thread size is much more important than profit generated and marketshare. I can't believe you people don't know that.

If anyone has actually said this then lol.

Jesus christ. A comment on venue size blows up into a big fanboy pissing match.
There's about ten times more passive-agressive whine-posts about the trolling than actual trolls in this thread.

Don't take shit so personal. Just ignore and move on.

Fake edit: basically what benny_a just said.

Its a bit hostile but nowhere close to those WUST threads.

I love the old xbox as well but come on people. That thing...I mean...jezuz christ.[/QUOTE]

Yeah, it was a pretty big. Still, it was built like a beast though. Still works as flawlessly as the day I bought it. The same cannot be said for my PS2.

How do you prove it? If you have a wireless controller then it could be connected to anything and having the real box there would still have people casting doubt.

And I just know if it was connected via cable to prove beyond any reasonable doubt that it used the final hardware you would have some big site use a title like "NEW XBOX RETARDED - WIRELESS GONE?"

MS only tend to show games that are 6 months away from release followed by a tease of a game thats 18 months away. So I'm thinking the likes of Ryse, and Rares game will be there but no mention of Black Tusk or Epic.

Now we are arguing over the levels of stupid. Thats an argument neither of us can win. The fact remains that showing it on a working box is a positive. Negating the one sector that will say that the games will be "downgraded and so forth" then from there you just have varying levels of stupid. If someone is going to say the controller was plugged in and power was running to the console that is sitting right there but we STILL don't believe them. Then send them to www.abovetopsecret.com and the rest of us can just continue with actual life while they are mired in their own filth.

In the end its sort of about minimizing the issues and showing the hardware minimizes some. Could cause some too. If it fucking crashes.

I love the 360 Slim style.I hope they go ultra modern and sexy with the 720 and accessories.

I didn't think about it till now, but they can't go as balls out as I wanted, more for the fact they have an E3 to attend very shortly. Puts them in a tough position really.

The Surface RT is, next to the Zune HD, one of the best looking things Microsoft has ever produced. They have kind of a spotty track record for their hardware.

Notice I say looking though, as I haven't ever really used a Surface aside from fiddling with it for 2 minutes at a store.

You think the surface is good looking? Really? You have to be the first person I have ever heard say that...

This is bizarro world, or you simply haven't ever really looked at a Surface.

That's adding figures for 2008 sales together for the US and Japan, obviously five years on things have changed. It's not unlikely, Europe included, that it's over 1 million.

Tri Ace aint in better shape either. They pretty much work in conjunction with SE and Lvl 5. Ms would need to invest some of its first party to help Tri-ace most likely.

Using Tri-Ace as an example, they can literally farm it out to anyone. Square Enix for example, like they did with Infinite Undiscovery.

Fair enough. Its a good strategy but jrpgs sell less in West these days.

Typically true, but that doesn't mean the genre is dead, just waiting for something bigger/better to come along. The Street Fighter IV of the JRPG world, if you will.

As I said though, even a small amount of adopters are worth it for Microsoft who generate most of their revenue from Xbox Live subscriptions and the like. Sony's different, as you know.

It's better to show software that's guaranteed to be releasing then say reveal a game and have it run into development issues. It's what happened to Sony with VS 13 and TLG.

I know the next-gen consoles will probably get bigger but there's really no room in my furniture for anything bigger than the PS3/360 size. :(
