Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | May 2013 | Lovecraftian Wasteland

If you skip battles, then how are you suppose to grind to get the required levels to fight the bosses?

I said not *every* battle, not *all* battles :)

And in P4G, the golden hands enemies are *very* plentiful. Always keep Chie around for Revolution and spam those physical attack skills. Killing just one of them will yield enough XP to compensate hours of grinding, hahaha.

I remember always wanting to buy KoP in high school. How much of an RPG is it? are there level ups, stats, etc.?

I guess I am the only one in germany who bought that game^^
It was one of the first RPGs I ever played and gotta admit I loved it.
Beautiful visuals and one of the best combat systems ever.
But its not really a typical RPG, more like an action adventure with a deep combat system and a few magic skills you can level up. There are stats and items that increas you stats, but thats not important. The important thing is the combat system. There are about 150 different moves(Kenpus), you need to find the Kenpus(can be a bit grindy) and you then can arrange them freely in freestyle scrolls to form the ultimate combos. Once you understood the system its a lot of fun.
You need to sink your teeth into that combat system tho, otherwise its just a grindy game with an average storyline and beautiful visuals.

Anyone got impressions for LBP Vita and Sonic Racing Transformed?

I just ordered these 2 very cheap and wondering if I've wasted my money or not?

thanks

So, I bought myself a Vita about a week ago from eBay for a really nice price, came with two games, case, the Persona 4 skin, excellent condition. Thing is, I'm still waiting for it to arrive. It was supposed to arrive today at the latest, and I'm kind of going insane here with anticipation. I can't even bring myself to play other games right now.

Hello, Vita-GAF! I'm posting in this thread looking for some insight from Vita users.

I've got an itch to get one of these damn things lately thanks primarily to the value proposition of PS+, cross-buy games, Sony's commitment to indies, and the likelihood that I will be a getting a PS4 at launch. I'm a PS3 owner. Also, I've got a new baby at home and grabbing a handheld might end up being the best way to squeeze in gaming time in the near future for me.

Here's my question: Is there any reason to keep my PSP? I got one for free unexpectedly a couple years ago and honestly I've barely touched it. It's a white one in great shape. It came with Ridge Racer and I've never bought another UMD for it. I've only used it to play two games from PSN (Tetris and Metal Slug) and a couple PS1 games. I guess my real question is - how much of the PSP's library is compatible with the Vita and available on PSN? Where is the most current and comprehensive list? It just strikes me as arbitrary that many - but not all - PSP games work on the Vita. I'm really bummed that some of the PS1 games from PSN aren't playable on Vita. It's weird. But that's probably not a very valid complaint because after looking at the list of incompatible PS1 games, it really looks like Legacy of Kain and FF5 are the only two I'd really even care about. (Don't care about Crash or Spyro.) However, FF5 is one of the few PS1 I've bought on PSN. I just got it during a recent sale and I was looking forward to playing that one on my PSP - I've never played it before.

So, maybe run through FF5 on the PSP then sell it? Am I crazy for wanting a Vita if I've barely touched a PSP I've had for a couple years? Honestly, Guacamele, Thomas Was Alone and games like that look way more interesting to me than anything that was on the PSP. Of course, I can play all those indies on my PS3 already...

Anyway, just bored and thinking (typing) out loud. Thanks in advance for any advice on this first-world problem.

Anybody know the best deal on a new Vita right now? I'm this close to jumping onboard but was hoping not to pay the absurd retail price.

I don't know about any deals currently but I bought mine in the summer of 2012 for ~$200 refurbished from Best Buy. I have *never* bought refurbished before and was quite nervous and although I was a bit ticked that it didn't come with a manual or the AR cards, I have ended up having absolutely no problems with it and I play on it almost every day (and you can print out the AR cards, and they are practically worthless really anyway).

Keep in mind that in addition to looking for the regular model you may be able to score a good deal on a 3G model. I think those were going for fairly cheap recently - as in less money than the regular wifi model, and although I'm not 100% sure it is my understanding that you could use a 3G model as a regular wifi model and not bother with the 3G at all if you dont' want to. In other words, buying one as a cheaper (maybe) alternative to the standard wifi model.

You may also find a deal on a combo such as with a Vita and a game. The only three US deals for a combo Vita and game I know about are for Madden, CoD, and Assassin's Creed: Liberation. Not the best games for the system but... if you do go for a combo deal like that then you may want to research and find out if it comes with the physical cartridge or just a download code. If its a physical cart then you might be able to sell it used or eBay it to make back some money.

And don't forget about the memory cards. They aren't cheap and I think almost anyone on here woudl recommend nothing less than the 16GB card even if you are planning ONLY on ever buying the physical game carts. And some people would say going for nothing less than the 32GB.

I for one have the 16GB card and I buy all of my Vita games on the physical cart but if I could do it all over again I would would have gone with the 32GB card so you really want to think about going for the bigger card. Between downloadable Vita demos, PSOne, PSP, and Vita games that you can only get from PSN (no cart) that space adds up quickly. And using Content Manager to move stuff around between a PC/Mac and your Vita is a hassle. I also don't have any videos or MP3s on my Vita and I'm always getting close to running out of room.

Another thing to remember is that if you ever want to switch PSN accounts (such as between the US/EU/JP stores) then you'll need a second memory card for that. A smaller (and cheaper) card like a 4GB card is often used by people on here to snag JP-only demos (or games) but once again that depends on what you're planning on doing.

The real hidden cost is the memory card so you may want to try and find a good deal on one of those as well - Amazon sometimes has deals.

Some may recommend you wait until after E3 to see if there will be a price drop, but even if one is announced I'm not sure how quickly a price drop on the Vita and/or memory cards would happen.

Best of luck! Its a magnificent device...

Thanks! A lot of good info. I'm considering used so I'll roll that into the mix as well. The card prices are the biggest barrier to entry so I'm still grappling with that as well.

If you can afford it, just get the 32 GB card from the get go. If not, I'd recommend the 16 GB at the minimum. If you subscribe to PS+, and as a Vita owner you absolutely should, anything less than 16 GB will have you constantly managing memory space.

Anyone got impressions for LBP Vita and Sonic Racing Transformed?

I just ordered these 2 very cheap and wondering if I've wasted my money or not?

thanks

I haven't played the latter, but LBP Vita is excellent. The complete LBP experience on a handheld, so if you've played anything from the series before and enjoyed it, then you'll most likely be satisfied. You've done well there.

soooo, who is getting Jacob Jones and the Bigfoot Mystery tomorrow?

It's out this week? So soon?! Damn, I hope it's not a rushed piece of crap, because I'm really interested from the little I've seen of it thus far. I'll be eagerly awaiting opinions of the NA contingent tomorrow to see if it's worth buying or not.

I'd almost go as far to say that LBP Vita is the definitive LBP experience. It's serious amazing. An excellent campaign/story backed up by awesome user made levels.

It isn't such a big deal to me honestly. I'm still using my OG 360 20GB HD in my slim. (crazy, I know) so managing memory has turned into somewhat of a game itself.

^ We sure? Wasn't there some word about a delay due to sending something in late or something? I know it's supposed to be wednesday for PS+...

Ok, thanks for the info guys. I'm now looking forward to some LBP

Agreed with the other guys, all spot on, great games. Not a waste at all. Great games to come back to every now and then too.

Anybody know the best deal on a new Vita right now? I'm this close to jumping onboard but was hoping not to pay the absurd retail price.

I got one from cowboom.com for $130.00. It's used, but I wouldn't have guessed to look at it, other than the fact that I didn't get it in the box.

Happy Soul Sacrifice had a good effect
http://www.siliconera.com/2013/05/0...-game-says-soul-sacrifice-changed-vita-plans/

I wonder how fast capcom dropped support?

Capcom started developing MH4 when the 3DS was in trouble and the Vita wasn't even released. So I don't think that it had anything to do with the Vita bombing, since it didn't bomb befor it was released.
I guess Nintendo was just willing to pay more than Sony and Sony thought they can replace MH...
I hope no one at Sony really thought that, because that would've been beyond stupid.

If you like Sega franchises, sonic racing is amazing just for the nostalgia. The gameplay is no slouch as well.

I know in the UK it's £6.49 so take your best guess what it'll be in your local currency :P

Free for EU PS+, not sure on any other region.

I'm assuming Velocity Ultra is not coming to the US this week?

ah ok - maybe 15$.

it's okay if it doesnt reach NA shores this week, i coulda sworn it was delayed a bit anyways due to more QA testing....though if it is good to go on EU store i'd expect it to be the same for NA store unless it was submitted a week or two later on separate stores.

Do you guys think a game like uncharted, with the lighting, textures and all would be possible in native res on the Vita?
I'm pretty sure GoldenAbyss would've completely blown me away if it were native res. But the sub native res was a bit of a bummer.

Hmm I'd say its probably possible, since it was a launch game. We are likely to at least get AA on Bend's next game, but obviously native res would be nice. Killzone seems to be native res from what we have seen but I don't think it's quite as graphically intensive as Uncharted GA. It still ends up looking better than Uncharted, though, due to being native res.

Just finished downloading Soul Sacrifice. Free Japanese voice pack, nice.

Is it possible to finish the game solo only?
Yes, every trophy can actually be done solo too. One thing about the Japanese voice pack though: it takes up 500+ MB, and once you've installed it on your save file, you can't uninstall it. Even if you delete the Soul Sacrifice bubble and restore your save file, you still won't be able to use your save file until you've installed Japanese voice pack.

I really wish I knew this because I actually like the English VO better now that I've heard the Japanese ones, idk. I guess I'm stuck :\

So I ran into a funny situation. After seeing other Gaffer's say LBP Vita online doesn't work after X amount of time, I freaked out and went to check if mine worked.

I realized I didn't even get far enough to unlock the online (shameful, I know), so I started playing through the first world. I'm hooked - I want to play through the game now :) I platinum'ed the original game and thought I'd never get hooked on another LBP game again but I'm really getting into this one - I felt like 2 was a bit of a letdown and idk why I never played through the Vita one... I have such a backlog and I think I now know why :\
