Steam Trading Cards : get trading cards and turn it into stuff

How do you get them? Are they just random?

From what I'm told, once you hit steam level 10, card drops can randomly be foil. The crafting process counts foil cards differently from non-foils, so you'll need all foils to craft a badge.

On the market currently, the asking price for most foils is over $50.

Do the card drops take a long time?

Seems to vary from game to game. By far the easiest method to get drops is to just idle at the main menu, and alt-tab out to browse the web or whatever.

Probably answered but ... is there a maximum number of drops per game (per day)?

I´ve gotten 3 drops in Don´t Starve in the last ... 2,5h.

So no word from Valve on how any of the drops can possibly reset? I didn't realize that you could craft the same badge over and over to level it up, but the only way to do that would be to buy/trade for the same cards over and over. I can't imagine this is the only way to do it.

Bah, 2 spies and 2 tidehunter cards; also have 1 Riki and 1 PL

WTT either of my dupes. I hope there is some weekly reset or something on drops.

edit - so you can only craft a badge from the complete game sets?

I doubt Valve even knows how long resets will take. They will probably start testing resets after they get a few days worth of data.

I wonder how the new playtime tracking system is different from previous one:

Some users are missing historical playtime data after joining the beta
The profile beta uses a new playtime tracking system. We are still migrating data from the old system, so some players may be missing historical time played until their data gets migrated. Recent Steam accounts are more likely to be affected than older Steam accounts.

Any Tips on how to get progress on the community-pillar? Doesn't seem to work for me. Doesn't matter what I try, it isn't acknowledged by steam. Does it work for anybody?

Be patient. It did not work for me yesterday, but it worked for other people. Today, it works for me.

CS:GO seems to take a while. I left it on when I left the house at 8am and I just got my third drop now.

All three drops were the same card.

I think this is a real clever idea, it's like the next evolution to achievements where it adds something extra to any game you play.

clever girl.

I hope it's eventually possible to earn all cards through drops. No doubt resets will be occasional affairs so as to encourage bartering with other users, but the option would be nice to have for those not overly fussed with quickly obtaining missing cards.

not that they even need to making a minimum of ten cents per transaction as it is. I'm curious how much they have already made. It's a brilliant idea they had. This isn't even a game. Just a bunch of artwork.

So do the cards drop on TF2 even if I haven't bought something yet?

If the game shows up in your 'badges' category then cards will drop. If not I think not, like I don't see Dota 2 there as I haven't bought anything for it and no cards dropped yesterday.

Can you get drops from CS:GO during this free weekend?

Doubt it, seeing as those who haven't bought anything in TF2/Dota 2 (or in the case of TF2, owned the game prior to it going F2P) don't get drops. It'd be very easy for Valve to check who actually owns CS:GO and who is just playing the game due to the Free Weekend.

Since then, I have bought an item and Dota2 still has not appeared. I am watching the TI3 matches to earn cards. I will let you know if I get something.

Valve being the open to the idea of making a meta-game to play using the cards is why I don't intend to sell mine.
The thing is, aside from Foils, the cards cannot be rare and are easily reobtained from spending a little cash. But the emoticon/profile background/coupon you get from crafting them can be.

But, once it's been in open beta for awhile, won't the number of cards begin to dwindle? A lot of people can't be bothered with it, and the available cards are going to be crafted en masse.

What's the cheapest thing in Dota 2 store then and how much is it?

Either a supporter flag for a team, or a label for an item, both are 0.75€.

I have bought one and then I have sold it on the Market. No profit made, yet no loss. I had bought the supporter flag for EG.

I suppose it's entirely likely that card prices will drop as the beta expands. I could sell my regular cards in the here and now then buy them at a cheaper price later down the track.

The beta has been running for barely a day. It's a little early to make that call. ;)

No thanks valve, worry about upping your quality control and not letting stinkers make it on your marketplace.
Games should be played on their own merits, not for some virtual pat on the back.

Valve is joining the cynical filling bars and skinnerbox club a bit too vigorously lately

its funny, refreshing the Steam Market recent sales makes you realize just how many transactions are constantly happening. Valve must be making crazy money just from their tax
