DOTA 2 just had an update pushed, it might resolve the issues people are having with the cards.
It looks that way to me. I went in game for a fair while and nothing popped up. Would like confirmation from others too though.

It seems you can just idle.
I left Portal 2 on the main menu while I did some work for class and I got 3 cards in about an hour.
The latter it seems. I'm at work and my Half-Life 2 ones are rolling in.
$9 for 1 card? Why not spend $10 to make 2 new accounts to get 5 cards (TF2) + however many cards Dota 2 gives?

Hard to say. Keep in mind that people who don't have the game also won't be in the market for its cards, probably. So in theory the demand should be the same to others, just with on a lesser scale and it's actually how it is now.
Something I'm wondering about though is if I'll get my drops for Dota 2 now that I purchased a $1 flag from the store. Wouldn't be nice if the "1 drop per $9" rule already applied.

New Account + Counter-Strike: Global Offensive = $15 for 4 cards.
New Account + Half-Life 2 = $10 for 4 cards.
New Account + Portal 2 = $20 for 4 cards.
New Account + $0.50 item in Mann Co. Store = 5 cards.
New Account + $0.75 item in DOTA 2 Store = 4 cards. (Someone correct me on DOTA 2 Premium requirements please)
Or: Spend $9 in DOTA 2/TF2 Store for 1 card.

lol Yep it's pretty much a dead market now. They are easily found for 20 cents. I bought two more to give away to buddy's. Still sitting on four just in case but with more invites going out tomorrow I don' see them getting back upto 2 dollars like what I sold my first one for.

From what I gathered, you can only get the rest of the cards through trading or buying them.
Which is kinda strange because to level the badges you have to complete another set of the same 8 cards. Maybe the card timer will reset once a week or something like that?

Is there any point to having an entire game's set? Can you craft an ultimate, super duper foil, card or something of the sort?

you craft badges with a set, and get an emoticon as a bonus or something
you can level up a badge up to 5, meaning 5 sets. they have different icons for each level and you gain more exp.
You craft badges, backgrounds, emoticons, and possibly coupons and games.
Money never leaves their ecosystem.

I'm 8xp off level 10... I'll finish the don't starve set then will hopefully get some foils to sell when I'm post 10.

Hopefully having bought a retail copy of The Orange Box counts as having bought TF2 before it went F2P.
if you got it before it went F2P I think you get 4 or 5 free card drops from it.
They'll most likely have you as having bought TF2 before it went F2P, as long as you registered it to your account before it went F2P.

There's a hard cap. Once you reach your limit you will never get a drop for that game again, though this could be changed in the future.
