Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | May 2013 | Lovecraftian Wasteland

Hey guys, any Vita acessories you all really like? Talking about screen protectors, good cases, the Vita battery charger... Im soon going to the USA and thinking about buying:

Case: PDP Ps Vita Pull N Go Folio
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0072A4JTY/?tag=neogaf0e-20

PS Vita Portable Charger:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006JKARP8/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Playstation Vita headset
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006PP3ZK6/?tag=neogaf0e-20
I've been looking at that backup charger for a while. Too many times have I pulled my vita out to realize I didn't charge it and then I have a long ass commute of nothing to do.

Just started TiTs on my Vita.

Last JRPG I played and finished was Tales of Grace F on PS3. Really want to go on a JRPG spree right now.

Isn't that just the cutscenes from the game compiled together?

No, the cutscenes in P4G are unique to the game. The anime doesn't recycle them. But the anime does follow the game's main plot 1-to-1 for the most part, with a few neat twists in presentation (like how they handle summer break and the True Ending.)

If you really liked P4G, the anime's definitely worth watching.

You can take pictures in Tearaway along your journey. I don't know if it ties into the gameplay or anything (it very well could, but who knows), but it's cute, and has a classic camera aspect ratio, vignetting, and depth of field like an SLR camera. Pretty cool. This is a picture taken in the game that the MM guys posted on Twitter. Apparently they're showing it off the judge's week.

So according to the NPD thread, the Vita sold less than 20k in april in the US. I don't think sony can save this handheld anymore. :-(

Did they recently make any changes in advertising, price cuts or game releases for the US?

It looks like everything is in a slump, vita was only like 30K the month before.

Statements like that are premature and perhaps best for a different thread.

It has sold more than that in 1 week in Japan. I love my vita, but I feel it is in the end of its rope. I really hope Sony announces something huge for the vita at E3. And to answers your question, I don't see vita advertising in my area (US northeast ). It's like Sony is not even trying anymore.

Wait, is that just your estimate? Do you have a link for the 20K?

Did it drop more than the rest? Not sure why you are suddenly panicking. We know they have their US lineup later this year with the pricedrop, PS4 support and jumping on the hype, the games likely to be shortly announced at E3, Killzone mercenaries seems to be the best handheld fps ever, and tearaway still to come. Most importantly the price drop of course, Japan had theirs, we shouldn't expect US numbers to change too much until Sony implements their changes :/

Who knows, maybe they'll go up a bit after E3.

No, it was posted by a GAF member, Creamsonsugar. It appears he is reliable. On a positive note Soul Sacrifice sold over 30k in april, so in one day of sales. I bought it on the PSN store, I don't know if downloads get tracked.

Edit: I'm not panicking. I will keep supporting the Vita, I love the machine ( currently playing mgs hd collection). But when your competitor is selling over 120k that same month something is going really bad.

Someone said it tracked until May 5, so a week of sales. Still better than I thought it would. But MAN, Vita's in a rough spot. I really hope it can turn things around.

I love my Vita Cradle (: one of the best things I bought along with my Vita.

bleh. I'm thinking whether to sell away all my sealed PS3 HD Collections to prepare for the Vita editions

SS isn't really even targeted for US gamers to be honest but that's decent still, bit of a draught recently I guess.
Ah, creamsugar. Okay that's a bad drop. 30->20K
But to put things in perspective, Wii U dropped from about 80 67->35K?. Cant expect miracles from the Vita when nothing's being pushed.

The 3DS isn't that much of a competitor for the Vita either. True they are both dedicated handhelds but they have different demographics in the west and the 3DS had a significant pricecut long before the Vita did. Let's at least wait until Sony implements its plans for the US to judge how bad things are.

I know everyone looks to japan for being the handheld nation, and while I haven't given up hope for Vita there in a few years, I still have high expectations for the rest of the world where the 3DS hasn't dominated the demographic already [it would be super hard to convince people to get 2 dedicated handhelds, let alone 1 new one], but only when the price drop lands and they pick things up otherwise. E3 is like what a month away though, let's see if we should have something more concrete by then. It's sooner than till the price drop at least (probably).

Just a week? :S So it must have a had a super bad month the one before... :S hmmm not sure what's up there.

Hey man. If you are not into it just move on. No game, not even a good one, can be enjoyed by everyone. Play games for enjoyment.

that's $30 down the drain. :/
but Jacob Jones is holding my interest for some reason.

if anything, I really like the P4G Anime cutscenes

A price drop will do nothing if you don't have the software to back it up, and it's clear Sony does not.

Did you just come back from e3? I wish my vita could let me do that.

Also, it's true Killzone didn't hold up against other FPS on consoles but what's the selection like for people who want a handheld fps?

Don't discount it yet. They might actually market it. And it will benefit from the PS4 hype and Killzone SF as well.

Maybe no one wants to play a handheld FPS, and the people who would have either been burned by CoD: BO Declassified or will be completely unaware of Killzone's existence since it'll certainly be sent to die?

^ They damn well do want to play a handheld fps bro! That's the whole point of dual anologue (oh blablah it hasn't taken off yet, people just need convincing :P). CoD took off despite it being shite and overpriced because people were desperate for it. Come on, resistance had no chance. Killzone, the way it looks and is timed (other than GTA... :/), it does.

People are desperate for it even on iOS. The west can't get enough fps :P And there's hardly any atm on a nicely priced Vita.

People may have been burnt by CoD but I'm sure they still play it/have that fps hunger. They'll want something more and Killzone might be it. A lot bought Cod.

I know brand name matters a lot and I don't expect Sony to just leave Killzone's image as it is. Hoping for tonnes of footage from E3 for both killzones and decent marketing later on.

People picking up Cod:declassified were likely not playing with their friends, Sony don't need mass social acceptance. Just to get through and impress individuals who might find a good handheld experience appealing. Price drop. Killzone, more announced games, ps4 support, advertising. Obviously they could use a GTA and huge advertising pushes now, but those might still yet come, although you can only really expect them after or with a pricecut.

yeap Vita is digital only for me :X

Save it for another time :)

Tell me you have faith Takao.

Price matters big time today, especially with people already having lots of stuff that's putting them in debt as it is. Even third parties will want to wait till after it happens to release their games. Sony understandbly can't let details of a pricecut out too far ahead of time. Sony might not have the absolute best handheld first party pull but they do have good third party relations. They could swing it back after a decent showing.

Finished Persona 4 Golden. I feel a little empty inside...

New Game+

Just started it. I'm full inside.

Play it again for the TRUE final... worth it!!!

Wait until you finish it a second time and start considering going back and replaying the PS2 version because you're not ready for life without Persona 4.

We all did that. Right guys? Right? Guys?

The feeling when you play an awesome game and wanting it to never end... Then it ends and every game feels mediocre afterwards.

This game.... this fraking amazing game. I'm 77 hours deep and on December 4th. So many feelings...

wanted to but did not.
hmm. I really can't seem to get into P4G what's wrong with me :/

What are you finding difficult to get into? The story? The characters? The combat? If its the combat then what difficulty are you playing on? Are you getting frustrated with the combat? At higher difficulties some grinding is probably necessary if you've never played it before (especially if you haven't played a Shin Megami Tensei game before).

I'll admit that when I first got the game I thought I would enjoy the combat system the most and the story/characters to a lesser degree. After playing about 10 hours or so I found myself actually enjoying the story and character interaction more than the combat. EDIT: Not that the combat became bad - its just that the story and characters grew a LOT on me to the point that I found myself trying to just "get through" the combat to get back to the amazingly well done script and story.

Do you like anime? If so, then maybe just play through P4G on easy difficulty as if it were more of an interactive anime murder mystery movie?

The port is awesome and very well done but even I will admit that it had a slow burn on me. I started playing it in November when it came out but didn't put much time into it and found it to be good, but not great. I got back into it last month and played it almost all the way to the end over the course of a couple of weeks. Only reason I haven't completed it is because I don't want it to end. So I'll be getting back to it again. At this point its like a good book that I've gotten past the climatic ending and I'm now at the epilogue but I've decided to put the book down to finish reading it later as I don't want it to end yet!

It really is "one of the greats" and I'd hate you to miss out on something special but don't force yourself.

I hat the exact same situation. I had out 40 hours into the game by last Thanksgiving. Then I put it down and just came back last week. Now I've put another 37 hours and I'm hooked, going to play through to the very end.

Shiiiiiiiiit, I just realized what felt wrong about PS+... I've dropped the ball and forgot to get all the march titles :((( Don't care about anything except for MGS HD (yeah, I'm EU), but DAMN that MGS HD!
Now I'm gonna have to play them on my PS3 after all, since I bought the collection almost a year ago on PS3... first world problems

I also just finished P4G (got the bad ending at first, so I had to reload and get the True Ending). An utterly brilliant game, I really enjoyed the ride, but I can't help but feel it's a bit too long for my tastes - I clocked in about 90 hours. I'm not sure any game, regardless of how good it is, can go on for this long without losing a little of its luster.

At about the 60-70 hour mark, I started getting a bit bored by the combat. Basically it just boils down to finding the elemental weaknesses of the enemies and then spamming that element. There wasn't very much strategy to it or much of a challenge, but then again I played on normal so maybe it's more interesting on a harder difficulty.

I also felt the late-game event that decided whether you got the bad ending or whether you could go on to the good or True ending was quite poorly constructed from a gameplay point of view (although that day was greatly written) - if I hadn't looked the right set of choices up in a walkthrough, I think I could have replayed that twenty times before I'd got it right. Good thing you were warned and allowed to save right before that day.
Besides those small complaints, a classic game through and through. If you own a Vita, I don't think there's any excuse not to own P4G.

Wait for the Vita version. Tis what I've been doing.
I'm lucky the PS+ discount is only 10%, otherwise I'd have ended up jumping on both versions.

So according to the NPD thread, the Vita sold less than 20k in april in the US. I don't think sony can save this handheld anymore. :-(
It was a slow post-Golden Week week for all platforms and there were no new releases to push hardware, no surprises there.

Time to watch the anime (just make sure you finished P4G's True Ending first).

Also, play P3P or P3 FES if you haven't yet.

But take your time...who knows until when P5 comes out.
Get P3 FES instead. It's $5 on PS3 right now. I really wish I played it that way instead of P3P. The lack of a 3D town is kind of lame.

I was looking at buying PSP but all I've heard is the lack of free roaming in 3D is a bummer.

Saying that, I'm only a handful of hours into P4G. I need to get back into it.

The quality of the port I guess. Never got around to getting it on PC but I'd definitely be interested on a Vita copy.

It seems like a perfectly well done port to me. It looks great and it's easy to control because the cursor will snap to areas that you can interact with. It might have touch controls but I haven't bothered to check since using the cursor works just fine.
