Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | May 2013 | Lovecraftian Wasteland

I'm well aware that Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified is well-hated in here, and I'm hardly suggesting that it's the best game ever made, but of those hating on it, how many have actually bought it/played it?

I agree it's overpriced, but I picked up a copy for £13 a couple weeks back and it's quickly become my most-played game. I'm hardly a CoD fan, but the game just seems genuinely well-designed for portable play. I do wish the online MP modes were more fleshed out (for example, there are no 'kill denied's in Kill Confirmed), but the campaign - I'd describe it more as arcade mode - and Hostiles mode are both a lot of fun. One of the Hostiles maps in particular is great for shotgun and touch-melee silliness.

It certainly doesn't hold a torch to something like Black Ops 2 on PS3, but it plays well, looks decent, and is a lot of fun, which is what I look for in something like this. It also feels a lot better than the demo of Resistance: Burning Skies (although I admit I haven't played the full game of that).

(Heh, inadvertent top of page recommendation!)

It is not a bad game, actually. A bit simple, but my overall impression of it was positive.

Question is... do i still care? I'm not sure, lol

Picked up the disc version cheap from Amazon so will be a freebie anyway.

Need to get more time playing Velocity Ultra right now. Also having troubles importing my Star Wars tables from Zen 2 in to the new Star Wars Pinball app. When I go to unlock it says, unable to download on Vita :(

Men's Room Mayhem is out next week.

I bought it on the cheap, and am actually quite happy with the MP: it's rather competent--and fun--online. Game didn't deserve all the crap it got from the gaming "press", though it definitely should not have had a $50 MSRP. Heck, it should've been sold as a $20 MP-only title--people would've been all over that.

I gave that game two shots. One when I got my Vita (it was pre bundled with it) and a 2nd time a few weeks ago.

It's just a terrible game. You can finish it in in 3 or so hours, the AI is dumb, there are no respawn points, the storyline is non existent, and I can go on but I'm too lazy to write more.

The Vita needs a decent FPS, and I'm hoping killzone can deliver on that.

Not to drag the topic to this page but I think it is important to consider how the Vita received a price cut in Japan and nowhere else when talking about sales outside of Japan. That leads to a lot of people just sitting on their hands waiting for an inevitable price drop, with most feeling it is going to drop around E3. As Takao said a price drop is meaningless with a lack of software to ride the price drop. So really we may not see a price drop for the Vita until August or September at the earliest. That doesn't mean that it can't eventually sell well with software support and a price drop, but only that it is going to be brutal up until that point, because if people have waited this long for those things what's another couple of months?

I guess not lol

:(

Great to see a release brought forward for once instead of being delayed. Should probably be a new thread for that if there isn't already

Yeah, I just picked this up for cheap and while it's certainly not a great game by any stretch of the imagination, the reviews scores it got were kind of ridiculous. It really doesn't deserve a 1 out of 10 or whatever. I'm having fun with the MP.

It got bad reviews partly because it was compared to its bigger cousin, and partly because of its 50 dollar price tag.

Very wise thing to do. I've been saying for ages, as has everyone I guess, that the release date should be pushed forward, and that's what Sony has done. Now the game has a fighting chance.

Game had a fighting chance before. But hey, at least now I get it earlier. So that's good.

The overlap between customers who will only buy a single game in the month of september and those who want a large sandbox game versus those who want a portable FPS is pretty small, I'd wager.

Good sir, I do say. Your optimism is intoxicating. GTA is transcendental. It's not simply "a game", lol. Going to obliterate everything in its path.

GTAV should do very well. But that doesn't mean other games won't sell, especially those who have different core gameplay.

Now back when they were releasing Halo 4 within 2 weeks of whatever COD game came out that year? That I would've been more worried about. Same genre, same platform, direct competition.

Now if Saints Row 4 was releasing day and date with GTAV, that might be more of an issue, in my book.

Not everyone cares about GTA. I sure don't.

This. I'm pretty much over sandbox games, I think. Maybe when GTAV hits $10 on Steam, I'll pick it up and play it. But I won't be bothering with it for consoles and I'm certainly choosing Killzone Mercenary "over" it, though if I really wanted both, I'd buy both.

He's right, though. I don't think there's going to be a lot of people who will buy both GTA and a portable FPS on Vita, and for the few that are, I don't think it would have mattered if it released a month before or on the same day. Completely different games. Completely different platforms.

Exactly. I've posted this argument before with a better explanation and bullet points even. ;)

The only way it's actually valid, as far as I'm concerned, is if someone says "I'm buying GTAV, I'm ordering all my food delivered and I'm taking 6 weeks off work to play it and only it and there's not way I'll ever want to play anything else until I'm 100% done and maxed out my multiplayer level."

If that happens, yeah, you might say "I don't need to spend $40 on Killzone for my Vita." If you even own a Vita.

Now people with a Vita? That's another story. How long have we been waiting for a well done FPS that truly makes use of everything our favorite handheld offers? By all accounts, this game looks to be one of those "console experiences on the go". By all reasoning, it should blow the FPS starved Vita market wide open... Resistance: Burning Skies and CoD:Declassified will be distant memories.

Me? I like taking my Vita into the office with me and playing it on lunch break or during downtime. You're going to put a competent score-attack based Killzone on that? What do I care if I play GTAV when I get home. There's no "one or the other" ultimatum in effect. It's not like they're both in the same gameplay genre and competing for anything other than playtime. I own like 15 fighters and THOSE compete with each other for playtime.
