Verge:

Microsoft is holding a special event at its campus in Redmond on May 21st to unveil the next-generation Xbox. Sources have revealed to us that the event will include details of the new interactive TV features that the company is building into its next console. Microsoft is also expected to show off a smaller and denser Xbox console with newly designed controllers that are said to be "flattened" in appearance. Stay tuned to The Verge for our usual live blog coverage and a special edition Vergecast on May 21st.

There's more in there about a dashboard update for 360 and stuff, don't want to quote the whole article.

....back from Nintendo Direct thread.

I swear Nintendo never wants me to buy a Wii U. Maybe I'll get my Zelda/Mario at E3.

Anyway, back to NeXtbox HYPE!

hoping it's this

The Verge article sounds all about 360. So I think the flattened controllers will launch with the Xbox 360 mini. Nothing to do with Durango.

Honestly MS should've launched the slim with the transforming d-pad controllers a long time ago.

Microsoft is preparing to update its Xbox 360 with another dashboard update. Sources familiar with Microsoft's Xbox plans have revealed to The Verge that the dashboard update will enter into a public beta in late June or early July, with changes and updates in preparation for the next-generation Xbox. We're told that the user interface will be refreshed alongside smaller Live Tiles, similar to what Microsoft is preparing for Windows 8.1. Microsoft is also said to be tweaking the look of the Xbox dashboard, with the possibility of darker or lighter themes.

We understand Microsoft is aiming to ensure Xbox 360 users can transition over to the next-generation console and interact with existing Xbox 360 users using messaging, beacons, and achievements. Microsoft will also phase out the use of its Points system with this dashboard update, replacing it with currency and gift card options. We're told that the final update will be made available, providing the public beta testing goes to plan, in August.

Still no mention of a customisable dashboard. Disappointing.

That was a Sony patent, dude.
Microsoft actually had a patent for something like this published yesterday (through USPTO). It was filed in November, 2011. It's not as elaborate as Sony's patent, but it's basically the same idea.

INTERACTIVE TELEVISION PROMOTIONS

Abstract
Embodiments for executing interactive television promotions are disclosed. One example embodiment includes an entertainment system comprising a sensor input to receive from one or more sensors observation information indicating a natural user interface behavior of a viewer, a program input to receive from a broadcaster a video program, an output configured to output to a display the video program, and a module input to receive from an interaction authority an experience module associated with the video program, the experience module configured to execute an experience instruction if the natural user interface behavior of the viewer satisfies a condition defined by the experience module.

I must be living under a rock, who is Veronica Belmont, the granddaughter of Simon Belmont?

That last 1 second of smile has to be one of the cutest smiles I have ever seen...Xbox Reveal Thread Delivers

I actually would think that that would be a great game, a new Castlevania featuring Veronica Belmont as the vampire hunter and family of Simon Belmont.

Looks like the next gen XBox Live is not the same than the current Xbox Live.

Heh. I am hoping the Durango dash is at least customisable. Lock a tile or two for ads, but give people the ability to customise the rest of the dash with whatever they want.

I actually wasn't joking when I say that's what I want. I would love for them to have a good deal of customization allowed. I know that in the past they couldn't do some parts because of how they have things listed like games and sales and such. But allowing me to choose bubbles, tiles, or blades...if that happened shiiiiiiiiit.

Then in games, the Kinect is always there, so let me put my ugly face in every game. I want to be Karak Mugger Plugger Lane in the new Fight Night game.

Call me an optimist but I think this is the gen where Rare come back in a big way. As in back to thier best.
Rare sucks. They have for a long time now. People keep hoping for something and they've basically been next to useless for years and years. That won't change this coming generation either.

Turn10, Lionhead, and the new teams will likely produce the good stuff.

Anyhow, most interesting thing for this event (aside from the console/feature reveal) is Forza. I would love to see a proper showcase of it. Either here or at E3, but the sooner, the better.

Shinobi got the info and will make sure to put the twitch threads in the OP for us. If there is anything else people can think of I will ask him but I am keeping hands off as he does an excellent job without any need to input. But if someone thinks of something really cool that NEEDS to go in mention it.

I just hope they merged the home automization software in.

I wouldn't say that. Sounds like certain elements will be cross gen supported, as it should be.

Apologies, I thought you were joking. Yep, that's exactly what I want. Would indeed be incredible. Direct tiles to everything important from the start dash would be fantastic.

While I like the current dashboard, I really like the idea of using the last dashboard of the 360 as a transition into what the next Xbox will be. It's almost like a taste of things to come.

No problem at all sir.

I like it as well but the ability to customize is always welcome. I agree 100% about the transition.

What's going on in here?

Ohhhh. Just a heads-up, posting that stuff over and over is a good way to get a thread locked. How about we get back on topic of discussing absolutely nothing. Someone leak something, fast!

Awesome choice, which model? I got a 50" VT65 (VT60 in the states) the other week and it's mind blowing. My PS3 and 360 games already look next-gen compared to the Samsung D8000 LED I used to have. Never mind what the next consoles will look like on this thing :)

I had the PN64D7000 but my 4 year old son cracked the screen :( Now I'm in the market for a new TV. Not sure if I should go with a 65" ST60 or go with the 60" VT60. I wonder if the image quality is worth sacrificing 5" for, then there's the lag issue that I can't tell how bad until I test it, I sit about 8-10 ft away.

Yeah, I'm done. I'm gonna be going on holiday in like two hours. I'll be watching the event in the hotel!
