Show us your gaming setup: 2013 Edition

Me too :/

It's the beginning to a scene from Goodfellas, right after that screen the camera pans to the wallpapered living room. The referenced scene uses a more traditional black leafing pattern on brown, you can see the general patter on the transparent room divider in the left side of the image. But the effect on the room is, in a broad sense, similar to the effect of the wallpaper you chose for your gaming room.

Casmir, you got pics of the Eames aluminum group chair? What material did you get it in? I was thinking of getting the lounge version.

That's actually exactly what I have been looking for lately. I did a quick browse of ergotron's site, but didn't see anything for center channel mounts... Would you mind linking to the page of the product that you used?

Edit: Little more looking around, is that possibly a modified version of this guy?

I initially had the "LX Desk Mount LCD Arm, Tall Pole 45-295-026" but wanted to put a speaker above so I bought the "LX Desk Mount LCD Arm 45-241-026" and did not use the post part and only used the arm. My speaker has a vesa compatible mount so it was pretty simple

Pretty much how things will be until I move in about a year or two.

If your going to source a table from ikea, I would suggest a Gerton or Vika Furuskog table top. Use a stain (if you want a different/deeper color) and wood wax/polish (necessary) on the wood and it will be better than the particleboard based Galant.

Other than that, your planned set up sounds great.

Researched going this route today, getting the 60x120 and 75x150 Furuskog with 8 Sjunne legs would even save me $50 including the cost of 1qt cans of stain and finish. I've never done any wood staining, but I should have time to learn and do all that this summer. Thanks for opening me up to this, I'll probably go down that route instead. I have an ikea about 30 minutes away and have heard a lot of good things about the galant, that's why I was looking in to them, but I'm sure some nice solid wood desks would last me a lot longer

New computer set up...living room is the same.

That's a 24" Dell on the left, 30" Dell on the right.

Replaced the Mac Pro with a Hackintosh/Win7 hybrid. It's a beast and it finally gives me the opportunity to play the PC games I've been buying on Steam for the past few years.

Where'd you get that Fenway print?

Surprisingly, TARGET.

They always have those classic stadium photos and a couple of years ago, they had that. I think it's really cool!

As a general rule, personal opinions maybe different than mine so go with what makes you feel comfortable. But I would advise you to avoid the fabric options on the Eames line. Stay with the leather options or if you need something different, the mesh covering is okay, but not as good as the leather.

Which Lounge chair are you looking at? The soft pad one with wooden shell or the one meant for semi-outside lounging?

I used to have the Eames Aluminum Group Lounge (not the one with the wooden shell - it unfortunately didn't aesthetically fit with the room I wanted it in) alongside my desk chair. Aesthetically, you should use what ever color combination will accent your room the best. I had and would suggest going with the polished aluminum and black leather. Or alternatively, the white leather option is a good second choice. Note that the images on the herman miller site are a bit deceiving concerning the white leather. In sunlight, the leather appears much whiter.

You should make sure to also purchase the ottoman. It allowed me to spend 3-4 hours watching TV, my dogs, a nap, etc in comfort. The only issue is when sleeping in it, spending more than 3-4 hours the chair may make you a bit 'stiff'. Not painfully so, but you may feel the need to stand up and stretch a bit after you wake.

Good luck and remember to tell us how it turns out.

A few tips:

1. Just remember to choose the color of stain you want (I would go with a red one but the choice is up to you).
2. Stain and seal outside
3. Remember put down a drop cloth underneath, if you don't have any; buy a roll of painters/contractors paper for ~$10 at HD/Lowes, etc.
4. Cleaning brushes of stain/finish is a chore so buy a cheap set of brushes instead, so that when you're finished you can just throw the brush away.

Nice. Where did you pick up the backlights? I have some white ones but I might switch the color.

That really makes me wish that my center channel had a VESA mount. Oh well, awesome looking setup anyway.

This thread makes me sad cause I'm broke. I deal with hooking up my laptop to my TV as a monitor. One day I'll buy myself a rig with a nice 120 htz monitor.

I've changed my stuff up a bit so here are some updates as taken by my phone!

Specs (if anyone wants to know):

MSI Z77 A-G45 mobo
i7 3770k @ 4.5ghz w/cooler master hyper 212+
8gb Corsair Vengeance ram @ 1600mhz
AMD Sapphire 7950 @ 1100/1575
2 500gb WD HDD's (1 is Sata 3 and the other I cannot recall)
Antec 750 watt PSU
NZXT Switch 810 case in matte black

I do have a Wii as indicated by the bunch of Wii games in the pic below but I barely get the chance to use it since it is the designated family Netflix box and its been that way for the past 3 years or so now which is kind of stupid seeing as its an SD system hooked up to an HDTV but what can you do, right? :\

my warped hammy down TV stand still drives me up a wall though but that stuff is retarded expensive :\

By the way, for everyone with hardware floor setups like mine. I got the Roomba 650 as a gift and it's a miracle worker. Set it to go while you're at work, come home with no pet hair or dirt on your floors so it looks like that picture every time.

I am so happy to finally contribute to this thread, it's been one of my favourite on GAF for a long time.

A while ago I consulted a few users on design ideas (Special thanks to Tabris who provided plenty of great info). I moved into a new apartment a few months ago and here's a few quick shots;

Aw man your apartment is stunning! I am moving into my first apartment next month and this is how I want it to look! Congrats

The brilliant thing about master15's setup is how cheap it can be had.

master15, do you mind showing your before? Here's some of the advice I had given him (so anyone can adopt) :

Here's what I would do personally, considering possibly moving (so future proof furniture). These are items you want to replace one at a time or get an Ikea card and take on a 12-month no interest to get it all:

- Ikea Besta Bench with Legs $170 http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/pr...44/#/S39888837
Place this on the left hand side wall behind your bean bag against the wall, not in the corner, keep the lamp there. You want to use this for storage and put your dock items (like an iPad/iPhone charger) / stereo system / and/or a plant here on top. The art will look perfect above it. Need a plant there for sure, I recommend a fake bonsai tree or a bamboo shoots in rocks in a nice vase.

- Ikea MICKE Desk $99 http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/pr...037/#/80213074
This will give you the area to hide your cables for your wireless router/etc and give you some storage while not taking up too much space.

- Staples Cantilever Manager's Chair, Black $150 (wait for sale) http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/ca...affixedcode=WW
This will go nicely with the desk, will be able to be pushed in under the MICKE desk.

- Ikea Lack Coffee Table $50 http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/10065958/
This isn't that big. It's clean/sleek and gives you extra storage.

- Long term, I would recommend replacing that couch. It's way too small to have more than 2 people over and it's too black (subtle black is better) so it's contrasting way too much with that carpet. Don't be afraid to get a couch where the right side goes over against the window and you just have walking space next to the table.

Here's a cheap subtle black leather couch for $400 at the Brick http://www1.thebrick.com/brickb2c/js...ump&navCount=1

You will want to then move the couch slightly forward.

- Now with a bigger couch and a coffee table you want to get rid of that third chair and just have 2 for the dining table. This gives more room to move on the outside

- Put that Blade Runner picture above the desk. It will be a nice accent that contrasts without ruining the new look. If you can though, try to get a frame around the edge that's chrome (will make sense after)

- Get rid of those curtains. This is the most important one, those curtains are the worst detractors to the room. White doesn't look good for curtains when walls / floor is white in my opinion Replace them with the following:

Ikea RITVA curtains (add a chrome slider at the top) - http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/30156486/

- Now with grey curtains, you want to add the following above your bedroom ( the chrome border will go well, this is just an example picture, the key is greyscale + chrome border + a little bit of colour, there's a bunch of options at Ikea) : http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/10132340/

- Then once you get the money, you will want to buy the following:

Ikea Malm White Bedframe $200 - http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/pr...42/#/S79893568
That headboard doesn't look great. White is awesome because it blends into your white paint on the walls.

Ikea Besta Storage Combination $320 - http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/S39894555/
This will match the storage on the left and give you more storage for your entertainment center.

Has anyone purchased BluDot furniture or items at all? I'm considering a desk they have and wanted a second opinion on quality/price of the workmanship.

I don't mean to pry on your belongings (although I'm sure you don't mind as you posted them on here, ha ha); could I ask for more info on the art piece on the wall?

Would love to see the before!

This is a great example for those shopping on a budget -- really useful.

Hmm, I think I might just look into this. We purchased a larger house, and there's a lot more hardwood floors to clean (then our old townhouse).

Thank you for the feedback and kind words, it's nice to start to put together a semblance of a setup, I'm proud to display. I know from these and earlier threads, similar set-ups are accused of being too sterile or lacking personality but I've always really liked minimlistic/clean design spaces and that's what I've tried my best to emulate.

Do you mind showing your before?

Sure, can here's a few images from my old apartment with some before and after shots;

That looks real nice master15!

You should add some photos of your kitchen for the folks who like to cook!

Thanks, the kitchen is pretty bare bones as I rarely cook seeing as I'm 2 minutes walk to plethora of restraunts and entertainment down the street.

Aw man your apartment is stunning! I am moving into my first apartment next month and this is how I want it to look! Congrats

As you can see, I made incremental changes moving from my old to new space. I think what helped was focusing at one section/room at a time and utilizing existing items I had, before I could dispose or upgrade them.

Could I ask for more info on the art piece on the wall?

No problems, as you can see from my earlier set-up I have a different wall art (Painting I bought when I visited Peru) but I wanted something different in my new space. I bought it from Moes Home Collection

I have that lamp. You have two. You win...

I started with one, so there you go :)

Ah cool,

Just wanted to see the other part where one would cook. Yep, certainly big enough to cook anything!

Looking at the before and afters, wow. Taking out the carpet is everything.

Yes, I spend little or no time in kitchen but my better half does and she produces great food from that space :)

The colour of the carpet really threw me off in my last space. It's something I discussed with Tabris when getting original reccomendations. My first instinct was to go with dark furniture, tables and cabinets (Partially because that was what I had) and immediately it made the space look even smaller and more condensed. Now in a larger space, I find primary white, black and accents of colours really helps sell illusion of being in a larger room than we have.

Really beautiful master15, both setup and view, wish I had views like that in central London. I have the same glossy sliding door wardrobes - a great budget choice. Be sure never drop the door off the rails, it's a bitch to get back!

Awesome setup master15, got the Ikea lowboards as well and they look really good!

Is the TV size okay for you? Dunno why, but it looks so small on the pictures.

I am having the hardest time finding a computer chair in the $200 range. It gets really hot in my apartment and every chair I have ever owned seems to make that problem so much worse.
