EA Sports Engineer: Wii U is crap, < powerful than 360. No $ 3party. [Tweets Deleted]

I am a Wii U owner (slow clap!). My mistake was not buying one, but buying one on launch (nothing to play after 6 months). Right now it sits under the TV doing nothing but collecting dust and attracting cat hair. Eventually though, I will play the games I bought it for... Nintendo games. So, from my point of view I do not really care if third party support sucks, I own a PS3 and will buy PS4/NeXtBox eventually.

Obviously, if Nintendo decided to go third party it would mean I save some money on hardware, but I guess you cannot have everything in life.

That's exactly why I don't buy launch systems. I bought a ps3 and 360 at launch and regretted it. I bought a Wii a few years in and was happy at the library they had. Metroid, Punch Out, Mario Kart, Galaxy, Zelda, etc. This gen, I'm not buying any system AT LEAST until a year after launch.

Now there is a discussion whether games that are reality based and graphically impressive offer the same amount of 'pure fun' as games with simple graphics.

Some say no.

Well, fun is a subjective term if there ever was one. After all, some people think it's fun to get hit in the balls with random objects. An activity that isn't for everyone I imagine.

This just in, Atari 2600 has more 'pure fun' games than any Nintendo system ever released.

Gotta admit, Taz on 2600 is awesome.

Question though, do you have a personal problem with Nintendo? It seems that you're in every thread just relishing the major dump people are piling on the current failure of the Wii U.

Exactly. I didn't find one game on the Wii outside of Wii Sports to be fun.
Not Mariokart.
Not Mario Galaxy.
Not Just Dance.
Not Skyward Sword.

Zilch. Obviously millions of people did. I'm not going to question their level of fun just because I didn't enjoy said games. This notion that games that attempt realism with high production values and powerful graphics don't offer the same level of fun as simpler visual powered games is garbage.

Many simple type of games are pure shit and many high production type games are pure shit.

I'm so with you. I've really enjoyed my ps3 that I got about a year ago. Sony have so much sorted by this point, it's just what great console should be. BUT I got caught up in the Wii u hype and I'm not sure if I'll make it to xmas without buying a ps4. The hype is just too strong.

I'm enjoying watching Nintendo experience it's current challenges because it's the only way that the company will move forward and implement the necessary changes required to make sure it continues releasing the games that I enjoy well into the future. The current Nintendo is still depending on it's past and I don't mean IPs. It feels it can bully it's way into success just because it worked with the Wii. That it doesn't need third party support when it does. That it doesn't need to have a competent account system when it does. That it can continue having shitty release schedules for its VC.

I bought a 3DS and Wii U day one so I don't hate Nintendo. I love their IPs. What I don't love is their old way of thinking. What I don't like is the corporate leadership who refuses to reach out to third parties in meaningful ways that the competition does to make sure third parties support the Nintendo platform. I have a PC that will get most of my MP games but third parties will be important for Nintendo going forward and if Nintendo doesn't work to get this type of support I'm afraid it will have dire consequences for it's future hardware successes.

We are heading into a video game crash and it's not going to be pretty.

"The Wii U is doing badly so that means the entire industry will crash!" I don't get this logic. Failing systems happen all the time (Dreamcast, 3DO, Saturn, Virtual Boy) and the industry keeps on trucking.

Sorry to question it, but...

If you didn't have fun with major Wii Games that has those IPs, how do you enjoy their games?

Something doesn't make sense...

Only because of the reaction of idiots. If people hadn't decided to make this a news story, it's just a guy talking to friends.

Yep. Not that I'm siding with the guy, he is clearly ignorant to make such a comment on on a very public platform.

But anonymous people on the internet are lighting quick to snap up their pitchforks and bend the guy over for it. I guarantee 98% of the people raking him across hot coal wouldn't say a word to his face about it.

Nintendo shouldn't have released an HD powered console then. I mean if simple visuals is where the pure fun is at then why not just release a Wii 2 with the same exact hardware but a new Wiimote? Nintendo could've saved the industry once again.

Something doesn't make sense...

Not really. I despised the Wiimote and Waggle. DESPISED.

I love the gamepad which is one reason I already am enjoying the Wii u 10x more than I ever enjoyed the Wii.

It is not an IM service, and no important figure should use it like one.

If I post on twitter shit about my job to friends, I should expect to be fired. I cannot defend myself by saying "well I was just talking to my friends!". Likewise, you cannot expect someone to shout shit about another company and put your ranting across as a representation of what your company stands for, which he did (by using words like "our").

Normally you would have a PR guy handle that stuff.

Vita, 3ds, 360, and PS3 are all doing poorly...

PS4 and Durango need to sell 400k each monthly to make up for the amount of sales that have declined and bring growth back into industry.

Well if you screw up in real life there is a chance someone will call you out, on the internet it is almost 100% chance. If he gets fired, it is because he screwed it, and not because someone called him out.

Not only was it unprofessional but it was almost certainly against EA policy.

The guy really fucking loves Wii Sports!

Can't blame him, Wii Sports is great.

If someone is arguing he should be canned because he damaged EA's brand then that is totally fine. To argue he should lose his job because you find his opinion offensive or wrong is where it becomes stupid.

When you add Wii U's failure with the collapse of THQ, EA's dire condition, and the closings of many, many other smaller studios, the signs of a possible crash could happen.

The truth is that AAA budgets are out of control to the point where selling "only 3million" is considered disappointing. That's just not a self sustaining business plan.

It really will be interesting to see how the HD twins do, especially if the entry costs are higher than Wii U currently.

Sadly, this was a case of valid messages being derailed by a poor approach. There's been lots of debate about the Wii U's apparent lack of horsepower, and it's pretty much a given that most third-party game sales for Nintendo systems suffer in comparison to first-party games.

Unfortunately, when you publicly call a platform out as fecal matter, you cross a line of professionalism and we get into the debate about social media and always repping your employer, even when you insist otherwise or aren't on the clock. Once that line was crossed, any other comments become diluted and worthless while raising a posse of internetizens to seek retribution or justice.

When you post in social media, you must always think about how your message will be perceived by various parties. There are no exceptions to this rule.

"Wii U less powerful than X360" can be debated. "3rd party doesn't sell" is widely accepted. "WiiU is crap" is an invitation to disaster.

LOOOL, yeah, okay then. Wii Sports is the one game you like? It's a god damn glorified tech demo!

Well, it's the god damn tech demo that sold the Wii and helped make it the universal hit that it became. Without Wii Sports it probably wouldn't have reached the critical mass that it did. It was an absolute blast and revolutionary.

Yea, unlike some people I just love new hardware reveals, regardless of the brand =P
This may be shocking but I love the Sony hardware and IPs, Nintendo IPs, and my favorite platform is the PC. I'm not even an Xbox fan but damn am I hyped for the reveal.

"The Wii U is doing badly so that means the entire industry will crash!" I don't get this logic. Failing systems happen all the time (Dreamcast, 3DO, Saturn, Virtual Boy) and the industry keeps on trucking.

Because it's the only logical explanation. Nintendo can't possibly fail unless there's a problem with the whole industry!

I'm not denying any of that, it was a blast, especially with others. But I can't see how you could only like that one game out of the tons of much better games on the system.

Also, Wii Sports Resort? Sword fighting was awesome!

Why is that so hard to believe? Do you think everyone should like something because it's critically acclaimed and you like it?

You sound pretty judgmental.
Yes, it is hard to believe. Now, he's free to have that opinion, I just think it's an insane one that's all. Am I allowed to think that?

Sidestepping from the thread a bit, was it the shake to spin, IR aiming or accelerometer levels that infuriated you in Mario Galaxy?

Just curious.

I just am an analog controller type of guy. I tried to enjoy these games but it just didn't click. The return to analog controls is one of the main reasons I jumped on the Wii U day one. IR aiming, spin, all of it just made it difficult for me to enjoy the games.

It's just funny that you'd claim that you hate the wiimote and waggle and yet WiiSports is the one game you enjoyed. Must have been in spite of its controls which is very fundamental to the experience :P

I see, I guess you're not as much of a PC gamer, for game that use the mouse?

LOOOL, yeah, okay then. Wii Sports is the one game you like? It's a god damn glorified tech demo!

Wii Sports sold me on the platform and was the game that got the most play while I owned a Wii, tech demo or not. Bowling was the big attraction.

For many consumers, it didn't have to be in-depth. It came free with the hardware and was easy to pick up and play. It didn't have the learning curve that so many other games had and could be played with ease by people aged 4-104.

I played other games, and Super Mario Galaxy was the only game to me that came close to the level of enjoyment that I got from Wii Sports.

Personally shake to spin drove me bonkers.

Don't want to spin and not moving my hands? Mario spins.

Need to spin and shaking my arm harder than a shake weight? No spin.

I never bought Wii Sports Resort as I was pretty much over the Wii by that time, though I did buy Skyward Sword and Galaxy 2 (I think it was released after Resort, not sure).

Well it was for minigames which didn't bother me as much. IR pointing wasn't pivotal to bowling, golf, tennis. No dumb sword play. No twirling.

Of course you are, everyone is entitled to an opinion. But you essentially said "your opinion is such bullshit that that I believe you to be lying about it".

Makes you come off like the insane person, or just someone with poor social skills.

If you don't like his opinion fine, but subjective taste is subjective and isn't open to debate.

Ah, I see! Well sword fighting was fun, can't remember much about the rest of the game though, which I think says enough.

Actually, I remember 3 throws, that was pretty good too.

ClovingWestbrook loves the PC but doesn't like using a mouse

ClovingWestbrook is weird.

I know plenty of people like that, who are like that. Maybe not the most hardcore gamers, but they are not used to the mouse and don't like aiming/pointing.

Makes sense to me.

I don't understand how you can live in the 21st century and not be "used to the mouse".
