Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | May 2013 | Lovecraftian Wasteland

That's why they need to be so much more vigilant about their IPs how else would they be rehashing them every generation.

Top of page:

But Soul Sacrifice because it's awesome :)

Glad I don't have to use the touchscreen to teleport in velocity! Might be able to enjoy this with my funky vita.

Gameplay sure is wicked - fast, precise, mobile. The music rocks too...well at least this first song.

that lbp mario remake level wasn't all that btw :P About to try the new team pick after playing some more velocity though.

It was just shallow. Not much to it. It has some novelty but nothing past that.

Ah, thanks, will have a closer look at the game before nabbing it then.

Firing up LBP now to DL this level.

I don't think you can fast run :( Otherwise it's not bad. Just got to try it a short while ago. He's made new levels too, going to go back and try some of those in a sec.

Can't exit velocity...so addicting but I'm like half way already :( I want more levels for sure-trophies will add some extra replayability too, they look decent. Currently playing minesweeper in the game lol, not sure how I got here..

Slowly working my way through the prologue of Zero No Kiseki. There is a ridiculous amount of text and story which takes a lot of time for someone who is only serviceable at best with my Japanese. Now I know how XSEED must feel.

Playing Tokyo Jungle through remote play is pretty cool. Would have preferred cross-buy though, of course. :P

Also found out the PS3's ITV Player and 4OD apps work through remote play on Vita (since they're browser based), but BBC iPlayer and Netflix don't work... still no native Vita Netflix app in UK/EU.

I think there was one fellow GAFfer who already said this, but Catherine would be a great Vita tile. I've been playing it, almost gave up at the start because of the puzzles but then I did one final push and it "clicked" now I'm loving the Story, such a great surprise!

On other news I'm now at Zone 40 in Velocity Ultra and I need more XP to advance, ugh...

As someone that loved Catherine on PS3, I would really like to play it again on Vita.

June will be great for me: Rayman Origins (PS+) and Jak&Daxter (never played a game). Can't wait, I need a nice platformer.

I've got LBP but dudes can't stop talking, that's boring, let me plaaaaay.

Idk how to feel about Full Frontal Assault. I think if I bought it, it would go unplayed since I still have a good backlog on Vita present... I don't think Ill waste my money...

E3 is gonna be awesome VitaGAF. I don't think we're actually comprehending just how massive the showings gonna be...

That might have been me a couple weeks ago :)

I had the exact same relationship with the game as yours. I was about to drop it, the puzzles were too hard and frustrating, but I managed to hang on and in a couple of hours I really got the hang of all that pushing and climbing, it almost felt automatic.
IIRC there's even a NPC that at some point says something like "man, you were so slow before, now when you climb it seems like you don't even think about it" (or something in these lines) and well, spot on! I think it was something the developers really wanted to convey with the gameplay.
The satisfaction when you think "hell, I just climbed this staircase in one go, I wouldn't have dreamt of it at first", so good.

Interesting. You're a leaky bucket lately, lol. I like it.

Edit: if true my guess was right.

I am. I can't contain myself, the hype of all this shit happening at once has me in a frenzy (and at age 36 not much gets me in a frenzy anymore - lol). It also helps that as I've leaked stuff other people have started talking to me. And a life long friend recently got a job in the industry. So now I'm not relying on any one person (more importantly im not putting any one person's job in jeopardy). But I probably should zip it a bit.

What was your guess? I read the first couple pages of your post history and didn't see it (and didn't see it or don't remember when you posted it).

Take Two/2K is coming up with Vita support. I posted it in the Shahid teases thread.

I would have grabbed it then if I could have bought it from my vita.

Now will just wait for another sale I guess :/

No access to webstore?

Should've bought it for $9 a couple of weeks ago. ;)
I figured, for $9, I was getting PS3/Vita FFA and PS3 Deadlocked HD (which I don't really care about). I haven't really played/tried FFA, but the idea of using the R&C weapons to mow down an army of enemies to "defend" places sounded cool, so I jumped. I'm not sure it will fit on my card at the moment... but I'm clearing up space slowly. Tomba! and hopefully Smart As... will be going away soon. Then maybe I can get Sly 4 on there and knock it out.

LeakyMortimer!

Wooo. Full Frontal Assault finally hits Vita next week. Glad I grabbed the PS3 version for $9 during that crazy Sony Smash sale.

I did too. I wish it was a traditional R&C game, but I'll deal with it. I'm VERY curious about whether it's native res. It actually wasn't on PS3 as far as I know, but this is from a different developer. If I were to guess, I'd say it's sub-native, but I guess we'll see.

Talking about ports, some people wishing for Catherina Vita Id like to play Persona 4 arena on Vita, maybe with some updates. BlazBlue on the small screen was amazing and cmon, Vita has P3P and Persona 4 Golden, lets bring one more to the system! ...and Persona 5 too, please! ^^

Could happen, we know Atlus loves releasing spruced up portable versions of their console titles.

I'd rather Nocturne than Catherine, TBH. I've got it sitting here to play on the PS2 but I know as soon as I start playing it a port will be announced...

I would stab a homeless person to get even a shitty version of NBA 2k on the vita (well not psp shitty). I haven't heard a peep about it but every time 2k mentions the franchise i get a flutter.

M-i-o, check your pms.

Wish this was on PSN for Vita.

Edit: although I just watched some videos and its really aged. My nostalgia lens remembered this more fondly.

I never played the second one. It wasn't localised for Europe so there was no means for me to play it :(

The first game I still regard as a classic though. I was addicted to it back in the day.

I laughed at Silent Hill: Book of Shadows when it was first announced, but now I want to play it for some weird reason. The reviews I saw where all around 60% which makes me think it's playable, just not great, is that a fair assessment?

From what i saw in gameplay videos it was not that appealing. Im downloading the demo now to check it out since only U:GA and Velocity Ultra are the games i have atm.

Ah, thanks, will have a closer look at the game before nabbing it then.

(for anyone not following the conversation, we're talking about Rymdkapsel)

The basic gameplay works thusly: You get tetrominoes as shapes and can place them on your space station as rooms. Corridors are pathways, generators produce the energy resource, gardens and kitchens work together to produce the food resource, harvesters collect the purple resource, quarters increase your crew cap and weapons rooms can be manned to defend. The tetromino shape does not alter the way a room works, just where it fits. You have three goals in the game: Research all monoliths (one is placed in each corner of the map), do so in less than 45 minutes, survive 28 waves of alien attacks. Researching a monolith is done by building a corridor to it and then assigning up to three crewblocks to researching, when that's done you get some minor boost.

You get attacked regularly by aliens, as far as I can tell there's only two alien types (and one is just a tutorial dummy). Defending is done by assigning your crewblocks to weapons rooms but they will just staff whatever room is closest. Up to two crew can work in such a room (each manning one gun) and the guns can't be taken out of the room so you've effectively got towers. One kind of tower. If you have more weapons rooms than crew they'll get staffed pretty much randomly. Since there's no threat between waves it amounts to "drag all crew to weapons whenever enemies come, then resume work".

The pink resource requires claiming particle fields with extractors and is finite, strangely extractors cost a lot of pink and there's no safety feature to prevent you from spending all your pink before you would be unable to build more extractors. Similarly reactors cost a lot of energy but at least they're infinite.

Crewblocks aren't terribly smart, they'll happily cart five blocks of energy to a corridor construction (which costs only one), then once that corridor is done drop that energy (returns it to storage) before grabbing another block for the next corridor. Or one crewblock puts a food token on a quarter (two tokens spawn a new crewblock) and another one runs in and steals it to use it on a construction.

Overall there's just little to do. Get a basic economy, increase crew along with weapons capacity, build corridors to monoliths, wait for research to complete, run to weapons rooms when enemies come, ding you win the game. Wanna try again? You may get different tetrominoes and the monolith islands may have their entrances in slightly different places but it's still the same setup. There's not enough to stay interesting through a single match and as far as I can tell no incentive to play again.

It's a basic idea (room construction with tetrominoes, just assigning staff to roles instead of direct commands) that's not developed enough to carry a game.

I wish it were on PSN at all. That and its predecessor. I never got to play them and I've been on a music game kick since I picked up Lumines...

I enjoyed it, but I'd never really played any Silent Hill games before, so I didn't mind that it wasn't a traditional Silent Hill game. It's a dungeon crawler, so if you go in expecting that, it can be kind of fun.

Dakko Dakko ftw :)

So is the cloud god mini...

I had fun with the demo -- I just haven't seen it on clearance yet, so I haven't been bothered to go track it down.
It's not totally diablo-ish, but for people looking for something other than Dungeon Hunter Alliance, it might fit the bill.

Just make sure you buy it used so they don't make any more money off of destroying Silent Hill.

Edit: Found two like-new copies of Soul Sacrifice with online pass for only $32 on eBay. Link
