Anyone with taste knows that the best FPS ever is Shining the Holy Ark.

You can shoot spells, you see... >_>
C'mon son..
I'm a massive Halo stan and I even have trouble calling it the best FPS ever, or giving any FPS that title. FPS genre is way too diverse (ironic considering the state of FPSs today, but seriously, it is).
Stupid number 2.
So only Sony is the final verdict of what's next gen?So far my hype is pretty minimal. It's nowhere near what it was before the PS4 reveal. After Sony's evnet, I feel like I've already seen next gen, you know? I'm still hyped, but it's pretty subdued. It's increasing with each passing day, though, that's for sure. I've already blocked out three hours of my Tuesday to spend on GAF, haha.
Appreciate the childish insult. NO company is too large to fail. I don't think you are stupid, just ignorant.
Microsoft's stock recently hit a 5 year high, Windows Phone is actually now a legitimate player in the smartphone space in terms of people actually paying attention to and genuinely desiring windows phones, which is always the biggest hurdle in my opinion. The Xbox 360 is a tremendous success with the follow-up poised to follow that success, and Microsoft's web presence and services have never been stronger and better integrated with their existing product lineup. And say what you will about Windows 8 and Surface, but Windows 8 is a solid OS that is set to become even better with the Blue upgrade. It also made quite the splash on their financials recently, and the Surface, while not selling like gangbusters, is a very solid product that I personally see more and more people planning to buy.
As far as consumer desires are concerned, while not necessarily beating all competitors in all areas, Microsoft has never had a stronger lineup of product offerings and services that people genuinely like and are interested in. It might be tempting to say, "well, of course things were going to get better with time for Microsoft," but not all companies improve the way Microsoft has, even with money to throw around. Steve Ballmer is heavily underrated as a CEO.
So only Sony is the final verdict of what's next gen?
I'll have to disagree with Windows Phone being a "major" competitor. They got what? 3.8% of the market replacing RIM...err Blackberry as number 3 and knocking them down to 2.8%..a hallow victory if there ever was one. The sad thing is MS should have been ruling the phone market. Ballmer dismissed it as an emerging market and now they're playing catchup/third fiddle to Google and Apple. He was then again late to the tablet market dismissing it the iPad saying Windows 7 is a great tablet OS...

As I stated and you clearly didn't read or want to acknowledge. MS' success is not because of Ballmer. MS' success is because they're too big to fail, you can put anyone as the CEO and the company will do "well" since several of their key products basically print money (Windows, Server, and Office). That has nothing to do with Ballmer's ability as a CEO, when some of your share holders make statements that you should step down, and others note the same thing and your stocks remain relatively stagnant during your reign. You're really not that amazing of a CEO.
So it's not that Ballmer likes to win, but rather even if a MS product fails it ultimately doesn't matter because Windows, Server, and Office will save the day time and time again. And your reading comprehension is so poor to the point I question many things about you. MS makes tons of money because of the size of the company in regards to how deeply entrenched their products are and how dependent many are on MS' and their products. Once again we look to Windows, Server, Office, those are MS' bread and butter. Those are the three things that have made MS as big as they are, those are the three things vast majority of the modern world depend on. So yes, they're too big to fail in more ways than one, I doubt our government would let them fail either if push came to shove.
I assume from that you are very young.
You only saw Sony's plans for the Next Gen. Microsoft things a little difference, is nice to compare the two to make a better decision.
Sony beating MS to the punch means they took the "wow" factor away from the Xbox reveal, at least to some degree. I'm still hyped to see what MS has up their sleeve, of course. I'm in no way choosing sides here. I could easily see myself going with either system this Fall, and I'll probably get both eventually. And honestly, I'll probably choose the next Xbox just for the possibility of the Halo franchise becoming something I really like again. So only Sony is the final verdict of what's next gen?
If the bailout has taught us anything, it's that you're statement is hilariously untrue. If companies weren't too big to fail we wouldn't have bailed them out. When the world or at least the US depends on your company and it's products as heavily as the US does Windows, server and Office...then yes, yes they are too big. I called you stupid because of your one word response devoid of any actual formulation of a legitimate argument, it was childish so you got childish in return. If you're going to debate, debate. Keep the 2nd grade antics at the door. This isn't the Sony thread.

When pretty much the federal and state government all run Windows, Server AND office. Then you can best believe that they're too big to fail. Yea MS's stock is at a 5 year high because for the 5 previous years it was stagnant! Steve Ballmer is an incredibly old school/dinosaur of a CEO which is why MS isn't doing well in their new ventures, they're too slow to adapt and Ballmer still acts like they're in the 90s in terms of his style. But as long as they have Windows, Server, and Office they can afford to throw money away until they rub out a "win". But they'll never be market leaders in any venture they attempt with Ballmer at the helm. The best they can do is bundle their new ventures in with Xbox...

Saying that MS has never traditionally done well with new ventures isn't a legitimiate excuse, sugar coating what I've been saying, Ballmer isn't a great CEO. You could put any of the people in this thread in charge of MS and unless they're complete idiots and destroy Windows, Server, Office, MS will make money. But like Dubai, MS needs to start attacking these emerging markets instead of waiting until years later to try and jump in.
Not really i'm late 20s but I know it's john wayne. I saw him when he played as gran torino.
No one ever said anything about him being some enigmatic amazing CEO like Steve Jobs or something. No one even said MS' success is because of Ballmer. I just don't understand what you're attacking the guy for. You don't have to have every single one of your products be immediately successful and steal away marketshare in every avenue of business. Who really cares, and why is this being talked about in this thread anyway? Winning as a CEO isn't about popularity so much as it is about how much you and your company are estimated to be worth. That's why I said Ballmer is winning... compared to people like us anyway. lol
Not to mention, it's not as if Office, Server, and Windows are just magically run by these:![]()

Actually Windows, Server and Office are largely self sufficient which is why you haven't seen much deviation in their iterations, and Windows, Server and Office aren't the result of Ballmer, that's something Bill Gates pillared. Also yes part of being a good CEO is being able to successful enter emerging markets (or noticing them in the first place) and being able to steer your company in the general directions. Spending millions upon millions on failed products then shrugging it off because your other divisions print money is like a textbook definition on what not to do as a CEO. Steve Ballmer, great guy and probably would be a geinus CEO if it was still the 1990s, but I can't say with a straight face or even agree with a straight face that he's an amazing or even decent CEO today, I'd be lying.
Dude you are totally derailing this thread...
I totalllly agree. I have the same concerns. I love the rounded feel of the 360's controller and buttons, and would hate to see them deviate too far away from it.Getting back to the Xbox, I'm a little worried over this "flattened, smaller" controller rumor. The 360 is controller perfection (besides the d-pad and maybe bumpers could be a bit wider), but on the other hand the OG Xbox controller was my favorite controller of all time until then, so Microsoft hasn't steered me wrong since that Xbox S controller.
I'm really curious what "flatter" even means. I'm guessing the guide button will be flat to fit with the Modern UI design, but I'm curious if they're going to flatten the buttons out as well, more akin to the Dualshock's face buttons.
Why i think i saw the same title at last year?Yahoo Article: New Xbox more than a game console for Microsoft

Indeed and I'm done, let's get back wishful specs and crying about Kinect.
I apologize

Ballmer become MS CEO since 2000

Reading a couple of pages back, regarding the supposed "Leak" of specs, shouldnt that create a more expensive console, in conparison to the ps4?
This is the reason why Sony has been in everyone's mouths for the last few months. By jumping ahead of MS and unveiling the PS4, Sony effectively got a chance to show the first taste of next-gen to enthusiasm. Even though we know it's not true, the public perception will now be that MS's features might be copying Sony since Sony went first. I'm curious to see what new features Durango will bring to the table outside of Kinect.

last sentence of the article: ""They want their console on all the time, whether it's a mom watching Amazon video, the son playing a game and the dad watching (Major League Baseball) TV on another app - that's their goal.""
so THAT'S what they meant by ALWAYS ON, folks. LOL
Well even Sony or Nintendo also want the living room, that's why something like "it only does everything" existIt's going to be a fucking huge battle over the living room in the next few years between Microsoft, Apple, and Google. The Xbox is Microsoft's secret weapon right now though, because it's a dedicated gaming console in addition to all the other entertainment things the other boxes provide.
Not to mention they can be very ahead of the human-navigation game if Kinect 2.0 is accurate and they nail down a great UI that's fun and easy to use. Definitely a lot easier said than done, but it's the right direction for sure. The Kinect is a control device that Apple or Google would love to have, as Apple is already doing many experiments with alternative controlling methods (the Apple rings come to mind; they work similar to like a mix of the pinwheel on an ipod and the inertial scrolling of a touch-screen). It's a very exciting time for the tech industry.
Yeah, I'm curious to see if it feels better, but it's not good just to mess with a good thing for the sake of change.
If MS delivers great first party games (quantity and quality) and third party support, I don't care about moms and dads buying the console.
Well even Sony or Nintendo also want the living room, that's why something like "it only does everything" exist
Huh?"It only does everything" was there to let consumers know that "Hey, we're a game console but we also have Netflix, etc. so everyone can enjoy it as opposed to what MS might be trying to say as, "Hey everyone. Durango is an all in one entertainment box for the living room that plays games too." MS seems to be going for Apple and Google's crowd while Sony is going straight for the core.
If that's what MS is going for... well, let's just hope they learned a lot from the RROD fiasco.*edit* just the same way that you have your computer on all the time.... as in, they don't want using it in a way where they turn it on to play a game or something else and turn it off until next time... they want it to do enough so where you are constantly using it for a variety of things
