Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | May 2013 | Lovecraftian Wasteland

I'd rather Nocturne than Catherine, TBH. I've got it sitting here to play on the PS2 but I know as soon as I start playing it a port will be announced...

Then please start playing it.

Lets hope its a decent RPG.

I know its abit love, or hate, but I really wany a sequel to 3D dot game heroes. I will gladly take it on Vita if thats what they were making. One my favorite games this gen.

In case anyone missed it - the devs from 3D Dot Game Heroes have confirmed they're working on a Vita game.

I too would love a sequel to 3D Dot Game Heroes, one of my favorite games this gen as well. It was just so damn good/addicting! Even if we got an upgraded port on Vita, I'd play it again.

Nice! Never played 3D Dot Game Heroes but the artstyle has always looked awesome to me, was really innovative for the time iirc, looking forward to whatever they bring over.

(for anyone not following the conversation, we're talking about Rymdkapsel)

The basic gameplay works thusly: You get tetrominoes as shapes and can place them on your space station as rooms. Corridors are pathways, generators produce the energy resource, gardens and kitchens work together to produce the food resource, harvesters collect the purple resource, quarters increase your crew cap and weapons rooms can be manned to defend. The tetromino shape does not alter the way a room works, just where it fits. You have three goals in the game: Research all monoliths (one is placed in each corner of the map), do so in less than 45 minutes, survive 28 waves of alien attacks. Researching a monolith is done by building a corridor to it and then assigning up to three crewblocks to researching, when that's done you get some minor boost.

You get attacked regularly by aliens, as far as I can tell there's only two alien types (and one is just a tutorial dummy). Defending is done by assigning your crewblocks to weapons rooms but they will just staff whatever room is closest. Up to two crew can work in such a room (each manning one gun) and the guns can't be taken out of the room so you've effectively got towers. One kind of tower. If you have more weapons rooms than crew they'll get staffed pretty much randomly. Since there's no threat between waves it amounts to "drag all crew to weapons whenever enemies come, then resume work".

The pink resource requires claiming particle fields with extractors and is finite, strangely extractors cost a lot of pink and there's no safety feature to prevent you from spending all your pink before you would be unable to build more extractors. Similarly reactors cost a lot of energy but at least they're infinite.

Crewblocks aren't terribly smart, they'll happily cart five blocks of energy to a corridor construction (which costs only one), then once that corridor is done drop that energy (returns it to storage) before grabbing another block for the next corridor. Or one crewblock puts a food token on a quarter (two tokens spawn a new crewblock) and another one runs in and steals it to use it on a construction.

Overall there's just little to do. Get a basic economy, increase crew along with weapons capacity, build corridors to monoliths, wait for research to complete, run to weapons rooms when enemies come, ding you win the game. Wanna try again? You may get different tetrominoes and the monolith islands may have their entrances in slightly different places but it's still the same setup. There's not enough to stay interesting through a single match and as far as I can tell no incentive to play again.

It's a basic idea (room construction with tetrominoes, just assigning staff to roles instead of direct commands) that's not developed enough to carry a game.

Thank you very much for the detailed post, it's given me a better idea of the gameplay, which I didn't really get. I'll still give it a try as I really enjoyed Eufloria, which I know is a different game but the pacing of the game feels similar and something I want to try again but not for a bit then. Shame about so few enemies and variety, especially with such simple designs.

I do want to check it out for the style and managing resources, but I think down the line.

Valhalla knights 3 gameplay video (character creation and combat)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXza8iL2vyU

look interesting but I will wait for more impressions and reviews before deciding to buy this or not.

Also I didn't notice this before but I'm really getting interested in this game. I did some homework and I think I wanna get it. I just wish there was some form of co-op, it sounds like there's only a way to test your party against a friend's party.

Still, 7 races and 20+ classes means tons of customization, on top of the character creator and stuff too. Overall it sounds really interesting and fun, plus the fanservice looks nice too. You guys know how much I love fanservice :)

I really need to play through my Vita games tho - really trying to finish LBP Vita's story and then I wanna play through Soul Sacrifice or Uncharted .. I want to get a bunch of the Vita games coming this year but I need to clear up my backlog a bit.

Trying to get through Dokuro right now. Either I suck at 2d puzzles, or the game has really crazy difficulty spikes. Chapter 4 was nuts. 5 and 6 were pretty easy.

Man, some of these vita patches are a bit out of control. I pick up most of my games on cards but there are still some 400mb patches.

4 is crazy. That's one of the reasons reviewers docked points for this game. There wereassive difficulty spikes at random times and places.

Still one of my favorite games on vita tho!

Finally got to play rymdkapsel. I absolutely love this game, I really wish there were more sim/strategy games for Vita.

Really love this game, it's definitely worth the $5 bucks IMO.

Defiantly looks interesting, could you describe a little what the game play is like? Or if it is similar to other games.

From what i saw in gameplay videos it was not that appealing. Im downloading the demo now to check it out since only U:GA and Velocity Ultra are the games i have atm.

Ah yeah, I didn't even think about there being a demo, I keep forgetting about those, haha. I'll check it out, and in the meantime just keep playing Project Diva f. (sooo good)

Project Diva f. (sooo good)

Except for getting them all to level 6 and all the other room trophies. Yikes.
Bright side: huge weight off your shoulders once it's done!

tip: Rubbing their heads increases their level at a set percentage. Everything else becomes less effective each level so if you're going to grind them all to level 6 at once, save the head-rubs for level 5.

Um WTF happened with the Referral program? Did Sony just think we'd forget?

I got mine (one) by emailing them too.

was reading the Story of NeoGAF thread by VG247...
one of the commentators believe that the Vita (thread) is filled with Sony PR reps @_@

Hmmmm seeing as I praise Vita on its good sides but I bought a 3DSXL last week with pics in 'monthly pickup' so that counts me out. lol at PR here, It'd be of no surprise but is sleazy/creepy.

Switch Galaxy is getting a PSN version.

This puts me off buying Rymdkapsel, since some PSM games just get remade as PSN titles later. :/

Thats it! never buying a mini or a psm game ever again!

What a waste of money that psm version has become now. I bet the vita version would run at 60 fps too :/

Sony's PR reps know about the Vita?

But there was a similar theory on Gamefaqs about the site I write for, which covered Minis. But in reality it was just some guy that thought it would be a way to make some money by being a site that covered them, something no other site did. Sort of like how there are probably a dozen Ouya sites (and it was hilarious, they would fight during the KS campaign). But I don't think it did make money, with it mostly being taken over by volunteers like me.

And at any rate, we never had any contact with Sony PR, period. PR people from some of the publishers/developers (or in most cases, since they were small companies, just the head of the company). But I don't think Sony really does all that much PR.

I think PS Mobile will end up mostly being just for hobbyists. But there are a ton of Minis I would love to see get Vita versions.

Haha, yeah I'll save all that stuff for a slow day. I'm still working my way through all the songs and buying the character models.

This LBP level is worth a play:

http://vita.lbp.me/v/c2mnj It's a semi-recent team pick.

It's in Russian or something? But I'm getting a long fine, just use rear touch when you're near glowing objects to move them. R to swing up from ledges.

Screenshot (it changes colour when you use the rear touch mode. Only works when near the objects too).

A little short but worth a play and hearting creator, his other levels are impressive too. Like this one.

And a different level to definitely play. Like, seriously.

Also, Sine Mora is decent you know, I think the grid system is confusing at first but it's worth playing through if you only touched a few levels.

Finally got to play rymdkapsel. I absolutely love this game, I really wish there were more sim/strategy games for Vita.

Really love this game, it's definitely worth the $5 bucks IMO.

Hmm, hopefully I'll enjoy it afterall.

We're getting Hotline Miami soon I hope? Would love Luftrauser too but I think no word on that yet either. Still juggling the regular games and some older ones I left behind before, Velocity Ultra is pretty addictive too...trying to stay away and savour it. Loads of trophies to do though and unlockable levels (20 iirc) are neat.

I feel dumb. I overwrote my Jacob Jones save.. thinking I need to replay to get 100% :/

EDIT: 90mins later and I'm done with Jacob Jones EP.1 bring on EP.2!

Is that screen from your first run? You've blocked yourself off from the bottom and left monoliths and you have too few weapon rooms for your crew, you risk massive casualties on the next wave.

How do you disable notifications for Friends appearing online?

I'm gonna lend my Vita to my sister for a couple weeks, but a lot of my games are Digital so she'll just use my Account. But I'd rather not bother with things popping up all the time. But when I turn all notifications off in Settings->Notifications, they still pop up?

Am I missing something?

If she won't be playing online switch to airplane mode maybe ?

Just tried the Velocity Ultra demo... i quite like it, but kinda wondering how much i'd get out of the full version.
The demo's got like 1/3 of the levels available... and it was so fun i went through them all in maybe an hour... will the rest of the game be over quickly?
Great demo but yeah, might have convinced me i don't need the rest! :(

3d dot game heroes is a boring game imo, i haven't even finished it.
I don't want a port of chaterine on vita, a new game like chaterine is ok, but tbh the puzzle part is not that good imo, there are games that are miles better like dokuro, archibald's adventures etc.

I guess that some are so brainwashed to think that vita has really no reasons to exist so if someone is happy with it then he's a pr
it's all carl's fault! i'm joking :P

Hahaha I saw that too. They said a lot of stuff on GAF sounds like PR speak, 'especially some of the people who talk about Vita'. Yeah, god forbid we like a console. How could we possibly like something with no gaems!?

I'm really tempted by Rymdkapsel but I don't wanna spend money on it just for a superior PSN version to come out in a few months... :/

Sorted the notification thing. I thought it would disable them altogether, but it just gets rid of the pop ups which is what I really wanted.

In other news I decided to play Virtue's Last Reward again, but this time the PS+ version instead of the one I imported from the US. Listening to Phi speak Japanese is so strange, as is the Rabbit. Made the right to decision to import initially. English Audio is a godsend
