RETRO STUDIOS: Will we finally see their mystery WiiU title at this year's E3?

We've been discussing the possibility of this in bits and pieces in other threads, but I wanted to try and consolidate the conversation here, what with E3 now mere weeks away, and the next Nintendo Direct promising "fall titles and beyond."

Apparently, Retro has been hiring testers. I'd appreciate some more detail toward this end. Hiring testers would seem to suggest they're optimizing a demo build, no? I don't know much about the development process, so that's just speculation on my part. What I DO know is the last time Retro unveiled (and released) a game wholly their own (I.E. not Mario Kart) was in 2010, when they gave the gaming world the glorious platformer that is Donkey Kong Country Returns.

But what are they working on now? It's truly a mystery. Are we finally approaching the grand reveal? Weren't there hints they could've shown it last year, but they wanted more time in the oven, and according to Reggie, Retro would've killed him if he revealed their project then? Not that you can tell much from evasive PR talk, but still...

So, given the bits and pieces we've been able to gather, do you think the Nintendo Direct next month will finally show us Retro's new project?

If they are willing to show Smash Bros 4 even though the game probably won't even be out for at least a year, they better fucking show Retro's game.

I am sure we will see something but then we will have 40 threads crying that it isn't a metroid game.
Alternatively we'll have 10 threads crying that it's another Metroid game and Retro should really do something new and of their own and fuck Nintendo for only allowing them to work on established properties.

Since EatChildren isn't here I'll have to keep up tradition.

They already confirmed it's there!

I personally don't care what it is. I just want it to be quality, I want it to be brimming with imaginative ideas and stellar design work, and I want it to nicely supplement the rest of the WiiU lineup, adding to the library's diversity.

Retro i love you and all but your new game better be at the fucking E3.

I hope so.
I've also got a horrible feeling that it's gonna be a massive waste of Retro's talent and something that nobody asked for.
EDIT: No longer a junior! Wahoo!

Since EA left, they are currently working on two titles.

Metroid Prime Time Football
Donkey Kong Country Returns to the Soccer Pitch

But yes, I am willing to bet a lot of money they show something.

Even if there isn't a playable demo, whatever they've done so far should be enough for at least a glimpse. Perhaps a full trailer or at least a concept trailer or teaser. Or maybe some screenshots. Or maybe some information. SOMETHING.

I'm not expecting some huge reveal with tons of media, but a look at the concept of the game would be nice, at the very least.

I suspect that we won't see it until late in the year, and that it won't be released until 2014. Perhaps the most that I would hope for is a trailer or announcement at E3. I also suspect that some fans will be disappointed, and much of NeoGAF will talk it down and trash it regardless of what it is. For my part, I never bought into the whole 'Cult Of Retro' of some fellow Nintendo fans; Still, I trust that it'll be something I want to play, and that it'll be brilliant.

I'm pretty confident we will, but then again I would have said the same thing this time last year. Hoping for another IP revival myself but I'm expecting to be hype for whatever it is they're doing

Is it true they've been doing mo-cap work lately? And they have former staff members from Naughty Dog? And they hired some chick who does realistic pictures of dragons?

Possible hints at a "realistic" game, then?

And I've seen people bandy about some alleged comment by them that they're "working on what everyone wants them to make." What's the context of this?

Where was this?

Also, I'm pretty sure the "everyone wants them to make" thing is BS.

They also hired people from Crytek and Vigil, and possibly others as well.

I think it would be smart to do a "realistic" game.

The dragon artist is definitely real. In fact, I'm hoping someone will post the link to her DeviantArt again. They looked more like xenomorphs from Alien than dragons.

Realistic looking Ridley.

Next Metroid is going to be super dark.

Yeah the cult of Retro is in fact for 80% a superb Metroid Prime trilogy, and a well handled DKC revival. Anyway that's solid arguments for another beloved franchise revival so the hype and cult is understandable!

Topic: Will we see their new game at E3? Well, show time was last year and nothing... I don't think we will see it neither this year. The two Marios are heavy hitters, and SmaBro is far away but will do the as hype. Plus the other games (TWW HD for example) but I bet 60% not here, 40% here.
