Great episode. I loved Cersei's little scene. I feel bad for Sansa. The show does a good job of reminding me of how powerless she is.

I've always had the feeling that Joffrey would die in the season finale and that curse makes me think it might actually happen to him at least or maybe that's just me wanting it so badly that I believe it's true. I just think that would be a really good cliffhanger since it would leave a lot of uncertainty in our minds and it has to be something that happens eventually given how it'd advance the plot as well.

Maybe it won't happen until next season since the book they're on is split into this season and next, correct?

It's the one death that I'm licking my chops for so maybe I'm a little ahead of myself since there's only two episodes left this season. So I guess it's safer to say next season and start anticipating his death some more...

what an awesome episode. Loved it all. The wedding, my favorite part had to be from the queen,"no one cares what your father said" and walked away. I was laughing.

dink knows how to play the perfect drunk.

I said holyyy shiiiit out loud @ the wooden cock line, and then refusing to bed the Stark girl. Tyrion is the fucking MAN. I want to see things escalate between him and Joffrey but it was probably just a one-off moment I imagine.

Also the fat guy is such an idiot, to the point where it's hard to take the end scene seriously at all. It seems the knife is special in that maybe it's the only thing that kills the blue eyed monsters, but it's fine if he doesn't know that it's just why would you leave behind your only weapon. Seriously there's no way that's believable, it doesn't matter how scared you are, leaving behind your only weapon (and one that disintegrates enemies no less) when you can take 2 seconds to pick it up is surely scarier no?

They should have had other monsters or some other danger at that area nearby or something to make the scene somewhat believable, like he had to leave at that moment or they'd die. Or maybe the knife got stuck in something when it fell, he tried to pull it out and couldn't so they just ran. Weak alternatives sure but it's better than nothing.

Still hate Daenery's, the only thing that would make me like her is for her to realize she isn't entitled to shit just by being born to a certain family or name. She's basically a Lannister but without the medieval torture porn fantasies. Everything else; ego maniac, delusions of royalty, power hungry, slave employing etc. is there.

But man I'm still reeling over Tyrion's threat, the silence was deafening. Also disappointed that Arya's story just seems to be dragging itself along. She's my favorite character, I want to see her back at the center stage of things planning her revenge type shit, but every episode she's just walking around talking to some losers in a forest. She can still carry scenes on her own so it's not boring I just want to see more of her.

I enjoyed the episode. I'm hoping we get to see Littlefinger and the crazy Tully before the end of the season. There's a lot of powerful couples and behind the scenes workings that I'm excited to see come to fruition.

While I do enjoy Dany's story, she's far off from ever having an immediate impact on the Iron Throne.

So we have two episodes left and the following will most likely have to conclude before the end of the season:
- Robb / Castlery Rock fight
- Edmure's marriage
- Reveal of Theon's captor and whatever it means
- Cersei's marriage
- Jamie returning to King's Landing
- Dany's fight with her second slave city
- Bran's visit to Castle Black or wherever his journey is going
- Fight in the north between crows and wildlings
- Hound and Arya getting to Edmure's marriage

I don't see the resolution of the following before the end of the season:
- Joffrey's marriage
- Wherever Sam's running to and getting back to the wall and/or Castle Black
- Stannis and his curses, along with whatever happens to Gendry
- Bannerless men's return to the season. There's nothing going on for them to re-enter right now.

I still don't know what is going on with Lord Pycelle. Did I miss something? Also, The Hound spoke about The Mountain in past tense. Did I miss something with him, too? If it's a spoiler, then feel free to PM me, but both characters are non-existent in season 3.

They found a bunch of them. Maybe he has more?

The Mountain hasn't been seen since season 2. However, Robb scolded Edmure for failing to set the trap to kill him earlier this season, so he is presumably still alive. The Hound was probably just speaking of those things in past tense since they happened in the past.

Grandmaester Pycelle was at the wedding tonight and the small council scene a few weeks back. Nothing noteworthy tho

Damn. I must have looked away or blinked to have missed it. He once was one of the key members that turned the gears of deceit behind the scenes.

Also, outside of the dragons, I'm a bit bored of Dany's story. Her and Cersei are one-in-the-same; the difference is that Cersei is often put in her place by people with more power in Westeros, while Dany is free of much resistance in Essos. In the end, I don't want Dany on the Iron Throne. I was a bigger fan of Khal Drogo than I'm over her rule. In addition, am I wrong to believe that that the Dothraki are better on the battlefield than the Unsullied, along with instilling more fear?

Maybe he meant Petyr Baelish (aka Lord Baelish, aka Littlefinger). lol

Nope, I meant what I wrote.

Yeah, you are wrong. The Unsullied are better.

Yeah, you are wrong. The Unsullied are better.

From what I know, the slave cities fear the Dothraki the most. The dude from two episodes ago didn't even flinch when Dany mentioned she had Unsullied. The Second Sons or whatever didn't care much either, choosing to infiltrate at night under a disguise. I have a hard time believing that this dude could have done the same to Khal Drogo.

I want the magic red lady to go away. I like this show with just a little bit of fantasy, not too much. The mysterious nature of the shape shifter guy was cool, but the talk of 'true' god's, sacrifices, people coming back from the dead, giving birth to smoke monster etc. doesn't interest me at all.

The Unsullied are better soldiers, but they don't enslave you, rape your women and burn your city when they beat you.

And being cocky is in the job description of a mercenary.

Who do you think keep the Dothraki out of the slave cities?

I'm the opposite; and most of the people I chat with speak of the same wishes of more magic and fantasy. From the introduction of giants to a flaming sword, the fantasy elements often dominate conversations when they are given time on the show. Whether it is the dragons barbequing someone or a resurrection by way of a god, I'd much rather have more fantasy rather than Theon torture scenes or Dany yelling about her dragons in season 2 or Robb chitchatting with his woman about absolutely nothing.

I still don't get this. Why are there so many people who can stomach dragons and fucking ice demons but then a witch is too crazy?

The television side of A Song of Ice and Fire may not explore too much more on the Dothraki, but I do find them more compelling than the Unsullied.

Dany has 8k Unsullied. Does she have any Dothraki followers left? I wonder how many Unsullied will make it to Westeros, should Dany ever find the opportunity to get over there.

Question: But why is ruling Westeros more desirable than Essos?

I also found the smoke monster too much. Everything else (Dragons, Shape Shifters, Warging, etc) I was fine with.

So here's what I can gather from looking at maps and watching the season 1-2 bonus videos. Essos (I assume that's the east continent) is either long stretching grass lands, long stretching deserts, long stretching waste land (Old Valyria where the Dragons come from was destroyed by some cataclysmic event at the height of their civilization) or a bunch of individual kingdoms around oasises here and there. I don't think it has the same value as Westeros? I also think it would be like Germany trying to conquer Russia (too vast - except instead of too cold, too hot)

Here's the map HBO released.

Ideally, an army would have both an unbreakable line of Infantry and a horde of murderous cavalry, along with a complement of archers.

[classical warfare nerd hat on] The Dothraki would likely be a poor choice against the mounted knights of Westeros, but would be great at flanking maneuvers and disrupting archers and riding down westerosi peasant infantry.

The Unsullied, if armed with pikes would be nigh unassaultable by mounted knights, and would provide a line from behind which a few ranks of longbowmen could lay the knights low.

[warfare nerd mode off, fantasy nerd mode on]

also, Dragons.

I've looked at maps and played the GoT board game; but Essos and Westeros both have their positives and negatives. The 'best' parts of Westeros are below Riverrun. Perhaps the Twins is all right, but Winterfell has long periods of winter that many cannot fathom. The North parts of Westeros is similar to the Dothraki Sea. The worst part of Essos is the Red Waste, where many of Dany's Dothraki followers died on their way to Qarth in season 2.

Westeros is more developed, but the slave cities, Pentos, and Qarth are on par with the best cities in Westeros.

Truth be told, if I was a Lord/King in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire, I'd want to be in Essos; especially knowing that the mysteries beyond the wall are coming.

Well that's a good question, is winter coming to Westeros or is it coming to the world?

EDIT - Is that map the world or the equivalent of England and Western Europe?

Land fertility, I guess. People can live comfortably in Essos, but I get the feeling the topography and ecosystems are a lot more unfriendly to human habitation. You've got massive stretches of desert, more isolated cities, and so on.

With the exception of beyond the wall, Westeros is ripe for agriculture, farming, and tight habitation.

the grasslands of the Dothraki Sea are basically the Great Plains of the USA. They'd certainly be very agriculturally-friendly if it wasn't for the hundreds of thousands of murderous Dothraki roaming about killing everyone.

I don't like the dragons either, I would prefer they weren't in the show. Daenery's entire story is boring and pointless to me.

The ice demons are okay as they rarely show up and are still in the realm of 'slightly mysterious' like the shape shifter.

If it gets to a point where there are 200 shape shifters on a battlefield with 200 soldiers and 200 ice demons all battling each other and the red lady queen is floating in the sky having sex with a cloud then yea that's too much.

Favorite parts of the show for me are the conniving behind people's backs, littlefinger, Arya, Jaimie/Brienne scenes, the political/social squabbles within the Lannister family. I love the supernatural stuff in say Skyrim or lord of the rings, just not here.

Not entirely sure. Winter is coming was a tagline for season 1, but I don't see them talking much about it anymore for promotional items. Sure, the viewers and the crows know about the White Walkers, but I have no clue what their intentions are. I'm guessing a good portion of the viewers don't know the difference between a White Walker and a wight. The wildlings are fleeing south, so perhaps 'winter is still coming', but the theme isn't as talked about as it once eluded to in season one.

LOL. This description pleases me since I can see Dothraki running amok screwing everyone's farms up just because they can. Makes seem like the biggest menace in Essos.

Plus if you look at the official map, and the opening, the snow/permafrost extended for hundreds of miles past the wall, in the show, the snow ends like 100 feet from the wall.

I also wonder when Winter is Coming... I think they probably delayed it because its ten time harder to shoot in the snow or blizzard conditions than the beautiful Northern Ireland countryside.

Tyrion is the fucking man and I wish I could offer myself to Dany to do with me as she pleases.

Also, two weeks until the next episode ?! *cries*

Dany's army keeps growing, now it's 8000 Unsullied, 2000 Sellswords, and 3 toddler dragons.

And yet they'll find some dumb reason to keep her in Essos. It's getting ridiculous. I don't know if by the end she even cares about Westeros anymore. It was about proving herself worthy, then it was to get money/gold for a ship, then it was to get an army, now she has perhaps enough firepower to take the Iron Throne and she's going on some emancipation of the slaves mission. I looked at the Essos map, there is another slave city just above Yunkai, who wants to bet she'll go there next as well?

I don't know, I just don't like her being so far from the action in Westeros. Completely missing out on battles like Blackwater, soon to be the battle at Casterly Rock etc.

I'd prefer if she landed down South, so we can see this Highgarden and southern part of Westeros. Ultimately see Robb and Dany squeeze the Lannisters from both sides.

Stannis really needs to get his target priority in order

Joffrey - makes sense
Robb - well, I guess you can make a case for it
Greyjoy - ???

pick Tywin, you fool! He's the one who pulls the strings in King's Landing. This is like Arya and Jaqen all over again

Fuck, reading this thread is so confusing for me most of the time. I love this show, but I just cant keep up with all the names!!

Arya, Daneyries, Tyrion and Sansa are ones I remember on a good day, doubt I spell any of them right though. Then of course are the easy names like Joffrey and Rob stark or John Snow. There is a few others I remember as well, but most of them are just 'joffreys cranky mom', or 'The smiley chick who will marry Joffrey', or 'Old Lannister hand of the king guy'.

Perhaps its time I just spent some time on imdb reading all of there names and beating it into my head, haha.

Check out HBO's viewer's guide site. They have family trees and all that stuff.

Tyrion is the best character there. Sansa was a big fucking asshole when she said she might never want Tyrion to share her bed.

I did not know that Frosty the snow man is in the show :P
Yep, two characters who make me grind my teeth whenever they're onscreen. Both actors have nailed that smug, a-hole behavior to a tee. Two characters I love to hate.

Dany is building herself quite the army also. They had me because the character who's name is escaping me now looked a lot buffer at their meeting with Dany than when he did entering the encampment.

Also, it's not like I forgot how hot she is but damn Dany looks so good in the nude :) I felt so bad for Tyrion when Joffrey took away the little step stool and making a mockery of him on his wedding day. The look on Shae's face when she realized nothing happened between him and Sansa was pretty cool too.

And Sam.... ohhh Sam. Dropping the one weapon that destroyed the Walker and running off without going back and reclaiming it. You damn fool *shakes fist*

God, I'm going to miss this show when the season ends...

Cersei is good but Joffery is a massive cunt.

Take the fucking knife! Damnit! I hate Sam so much!

PS: That whore was amazingly hot. Hot damn! Should have just killed Dany and made her queen.

The wall is 300 miles long, so that gives you a sense of the scale. It's closer to North America + Eurasia than it is the UK + Western Europe, though it's not quite that big. As an aside, I dislike how the continents look like they were designed to fit perfectly into rectangles. A bit of tilting and warping would improve them a great deal.

Remember that summer and winter aren't months long like ours but years long. In Season 2 Pycelle received a raven that declared that the great long summer was over and it lasted for around a decade. Littlefinger also says that they have enough grain in the city for a five year winter.

Tyrion is the best character there. Sansa was a big fucking asshole when she said she might never want Tyrion to share her bed.
She's a fourteen year old who's been forced to marry the dwarf son of the family who's held her hostage and cut off her father's head. I don't think you can blame her for not going "Yeah, let's try and make this work!"
